Help with exercise & Plan needed.

Firstly, hello, I am new here. I hope to become an active part of this community.

I'll explain my situation:
I have recently qualified as a tree surgeon, but I am not currently working as one. I need to lose weight, partly to make things easier when I start this job, but partly just for myself too. I am not fat as such, but I am overweight. I weigh 16.5 stone and I am 6'2". I have quite a large frame too, so that has to be taken in to account. I do have a bit of a belly on me, and my thighs/buttocks are particularly chunky.

I have vague goals and targets but I don't know how to achieve them. I have been thinking about this for a while but starting is the hardest part, especially when I try and look for plans and tips on the internet and come across so many people saying completely different things.
Ideally, I just want to be a lot fitter, lose the weight, build a bit of upper-body strength (I am quite naturally strong), tone up my stomach muscles and just be generally more toned all round.

I was thinking that the main exercises that would be beneficial to me would be cardio to lose the weight, sit-ups, push-ups and pull-ups (these are apparently an important exercise relating to tree work). Of course I am clueless what would be best.
Can anyone help with advice or help me to come up with a simple but effective plan to achieve this?

Hey James, welcome!

Have you looked around at the sticky threads yet? Here are a couple that might be helpful to get you started:

Hi James!
You mentioned that you are interested in cardio, and sit ups, push ups, etc. Those exercises are all body-weight exercises, which can be extremely beneficial. You don't need a gym or any special equipment to perform them. I'm a big fan of body-weight exercises, and something that has worked well for me is an iphone/ipad app called Gorilla Workout (). It has daily workout routines that consist of both cardio and strength training with only the use of your own body weight. Not only will you lose weight, but it'll help you tone up too. The exercises are already planned out each day, so you don't even have to think about it. The workouts are even based on your individual fitness level, so you can be sure you'll be able to do each workout. If you get a chance to try it out, let me know what you think! I personally love it and think it's a great workout.

Best of luck!
Jess
