Help me and my UNHEALTHY body please!

Hiya,

Getting straight to the point, I'm a 20 years old woman, I'm 5 FT 1" and 9.12 stones. I had my first child one and a half years ago and since then I have just let my health go down the drain. I feel very unhealthy and look very over weight (especially around my stomach) and now I really want to get healthy, look good and be able to feel great.

I don't do any exercise at all at the moment, just doing household choirs gets me tired and exausted. So I've been to scared to attempt anything else. BUT I'M READY NOW

Now for my diet. I wouldn't say it's totally unhealthy but I do eat quite abit of junk food ( 2-4 meals a week) and the rest is abit of everything; rice, veggies, meat and I love my salads etc. I know it's something I have to change and I'm ready to do that.

I understand it's going to take time and not happen over night but I just don't know where to start when it comes to exercising. Here are some of the options I came across but alot are not suitable for me:

- Firstly. I really wanted to join a gym but that idea was a failure because I can only join a womans only gym and I didn't find one in the whole of South London.

- Being a single mother makes me unable to go swimming and other activities of the such as I dont have anyone I can trust to leave my son with and I dont trust babysitters or creches.

- Walking is another option i thought of which is ideal as i could do it with my son, havn't tried yet but will.

- My best option I have come across is to buy a good exercise machine for home so I'm in my own comfort and my exercise can be suited around my lifestyle.

But heres the problem, I like the idea of a exercise bike but I have no idea of what one is good in regards to results, durability, noise and obviously price. And also I know I cant just lose fat of a certain part of my body but will it help me lose fat of my stomach as thats my biggest problem?

My price range is £150- £200

So I would be very happy if you have any information regarding exercise bikes as if it seems suitable I would like to purchase one in the following week.

Thanx

exercise bikes suck, go outside and run, lift some weights (can you afford a gym membership?) and eat healthy. Sounds like money is tight for you, but the sad truth is that cheap food = fattening food. Get fruits and vegetables (they are cheap), and basically cut out some calories your getting in. Cut out all the junk food that you can, and eat what you know is healthy

First off why can you only join a woman's only gym? There are plenty of gyms that have studio classes for women only or classes that are open to all but have only women turn up (legs bums and tums being the most obvious).

Second, 5' 1" and 9 stone gives you a BMI (body mass index) that is in the normal range so you don't need to lose weight, just improve your diet a bit and fitness level.

So forget the bike, buy yourself a swiss ball (£10) a few dumbbells (about £10-£15) and a yoga mat for sit ups etc (£5-£10) and exercise at home until you get the confidence to join a gym. If you make this investment, email or PM me and i'll give you some exercises you can do that will start to tone you up and improve your fitness level.

If only I'd finished writing the book I'm working on :)

Hi David,
I have recently put on a bit of weight and i really want to get back to my normal size.
I hold more muscle than fat (which is good), but i want to feel slim not the way i do.
I run every now and then to try and do some exercises but think this might be 'bulking'
my body up more.
Could you please suggest some exercise routines and even an eating plan to help me?
Thanks so much :)

I would suggest you get a real bike with a child seat, there are some good deals about like this: with child seat avaiable from places like halfords. I wouldn't go for one of these suspension bikes as they eat your energy up from what they absorb in the springs, possibly get a good saddle and i would recomend safty hat for your child at the least, you can plan routes on this site: you can also plan walks this way too, A new bike with child seat, safty hat(s) and a good saddle is easily within your price range if you shop around for bargains, nothing beats fresh air in your lungs and having a child on your bike you can add to your calorie burn due to the extra weight, hope you like this idea, could prove to be awesome :]
