Help! I'm Skinny-Fat!

I'm 25, 5'4, 110lbs (small frame - i'm half asian). It's never occured to me that I had problems with 'fat' since I'm not overweight - but it's been brought to my attention that the three inches of flab I can pinch around my waist isn't normal, I've been somewhat concerned about how I should go about getting rid of it. When I sit, my stomach also flops/bulges out and looks bizarrly out of proportion with my thin frame (at times, it looks as if I shoved a basketball under my shirt).

I walk briskly at 'least' 2 miles a day (weather permitting, and trying to work my way up to running, I've never had very good stamina), take dance lessons once a week, do crunches almost daily (my abs are hard as rocks under my flab), and do strength training once or twice a week. I eat a healthy balanced diet and stay well hydrated (close to a gallon of water a day). I've been doing this for two months now, but no change in weight or in the amount of flab I'm carrying. Any suggestions? More cardio? Longer workouts? I don't really want to decrease my caloric intake because I'm scared of losing muscle weight rather than fat (or am I wrong in assuming that this would occur? I've actually increased my caloric intake the last two years to put on an additional 5 pounds - but as I recall, I had this flab even when I was at 105...). Help, Please!!

The smaller you get, the harder it is to lose. Your diet is gonna have to be on point, and your gonna need to up the intensity of your cardio. Start by doing a mix of jogging and walking to build your stamina.

I think you're going to need an all around better plan. Cardio, strength training and menu. If what you are doing now is not working then you need to change it, right? :D

Sounds like you have a lot of belly fat with is both unhealthy and difficult to get rid of. Doing crunches everyday is not recommended because it over works the ab muscles.

Sounds like almost my issue as well. I'm skinny too...30 yrs. old, 105 lbs, 5'4, and I call myself a skinny fat person....lol! I can't stand it. Everyone tells me how lucky I am...blah, blah, blah. I've had a really hard time w/the belly area as well and untoned body that just seems to get worse w/age. I don't even have kids yet, and am scared to see what I'd look like after I had kids if I don't get myself where I would like to be. It's been hard with a full time job, 45 min. commute to and from work, cooking dinner, cleaning, etc. and then to exercise and have the energy too. I'm still trying to figure out what will work best for me as well. Good luck with it. Don't feel bad as there are others that experience the same issues. I'm trying to use the advice from the board members and am hoping that will help.

Some people will hold extra weight there, it’s not abnormal.
