help im gaining weight!!

Ok, so my problem is that im gaining weight it and it doesnt seem to be stopping. I'm 18, around 5'6 and right now i weight about 134. Now i'm not saying im 'fat' but im starting to get flabby and dont like it. especially with the warmer weather coming i would like to feel good about being in a bikini. i dont really care about gaining muscle or anything, but i want to be less flabby. i was wondering about doing cardio to lose weight. how long and how many days a week should i be doing cardio?? Im thinking about joining a gym with a friend so i can use the tred mill and stuff but i really have no idea how long and how often i should be doing the cardio.

sorry for the long post but i really need to know!! thanks in advance

also, i know drinking water is healthy for you and what not, but i was wondering can it help you to lose weight?? i had a friend tell me once that drinking more water can help you lose weight. If this is true can someone please explain to me how it does.

i dont know how water helps you loose weight, but i know you should drink tons of water each day.
You could do HIIT, use the search function and type inn "HIIT" you should find a thread with tons of info about it, it has lots of replies.

Also, if you join a gym, strenght training is a good idea, muscle burns fat when you are resting, so the more muscle you have, the more fat you burn while doing nothing at all:p

Sorry to everyone that regularly visits this board... but I have to keep posting these 5 tips to fat loss. They just come in handy so often for so many people.

1) Eat 5-6 small meals throughout the day. Each meal should be 2-3 hours apart. Each meal should contain one protein and one carb. The first meal should be eaten within an hour after waking.

2) Drink a cup of water at each meal.

3) Rest properly. This means taking at least 48 hours between strength training the same muscles, and it also means getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night. Lastly, it means taking 1-2 days off from exercising per week.

4) Cardio. This should be done at different intensity levels and different session lengths. Consider doing a low intensity/long session, a high intensity/short session and a few medium intensity/medium length sessions.

5) Strength Training. Strength train each muscle 1-3 times per week. You should lift a proper weight and perform the proper amount of sets/reps for your strength training method. If you need more guidance or exercise ideas you can head over

All of the above things combined will result in fat loss.

How long and how often should i be excersizing?? Im a real newb when it comes to this stuff and i dont want to look stupid goin to the gym and then not getting my money/time worth.

Your questions and challenges have puzzled many for years. Your goal needs to be a healthy/maintainable lifestyle.

The reason that water nelps you lose weight is that it fills you up so that you don't take in excess calories.

Exercise is important, as is the intensity that you work at....but its the nutrition element that often gets ignored.

Hmmm, those 5 tips do look vaguely familiar ;)

When you do your cardio, dont' forget to mix it up or else you'll get bored fast. Some people say that the reason you lose weight from drinking so much water is because your body has to adjust to the temperature of it, and that burns calories. That's just hear say though. Good luck.

Especially since you are a newbie... you should NOT over do cardio just to lose weight. Your post was peppered with "how can I" "what's the best way" "does (insert word) help me" ... lose weight??

The best way to lose weight is to chop off a leg. (compliments of Tom Venuto). The best way to lose body fat is to follow my 5 tips above. Yes others will have different opinions, but I do not think they will vary much from those 5 tips.
