Help connect the dots...perhaps

Ok.

Lets say we have a 32 year old female. Generally in good shape, but does have some weight to loose through her core region. At this time, her calorie intake is aprx 3200 per day. And it's bad stuff...pop...candy...butter etc etc. She established her BMI and that number shows her to need a calorie intake per day to loose the weight she is hoping for... that number is 1250 per day.

If this lady was to eat, say, 2000 calories per day, could she expect to see any weight loss simply becuase of the shortage of what she WAS taking in(the 32000).

Do not factor in ANY excercise. Just a decrese in calorie intake over what she was taking in, BUT!, not lowering it the match what the BMI index said she should be at.

TIA!

BMI is body mass index. It is the ratio of weight and height to determine if you are obese or not. Generally numbers ranges from 20~30ish.

You're thinking of BMR + Activity level.

The BMR is not solid science. It's close, but it doesn't factor in your current activity level, body composition, etc. She could very well lose weight, but it's hard to say. You can't say, eat this exactly number of calories, and you'll see weight lost. It doesn't just work that way for everyone.

My first post was to general....

My LOML is just getting started on her fitness "stuff". She insist that if she eats less calories then is taking in now, that she will automaticly loose weight. She is not factoring in what her BMR/BMI would indicate she take in/put out. So, she thnks if she simply drops down to 2000 calrories per day that she will loose weight, becuase it is a defecit over what she is currently taking in...the 3200.

I told her needs to work with the numbers the BMR/BMI directs her toward...she doesn't agree :argue:

Me thinks she would gain slower.

p.s. my short history on this planet has indicated trying to help your mom lose weight may not be a super fantastic idea :yelrotflmao:

or you could always just keep it simple and tell her- hey mom-
SWEAT DAILY!

hehehehe - and the difference is? hjahhaahah

guesss you know that is maybe even worse than Mom! :D

anyhow-- how about doing things like events, races, competitions of some sort, let her catch the excitement bug, and then she may start doing some of whatever it is herself.

works for me.

:jump1:

Well, there is a reason she is not able to hit the cardio as hard as, say, you or I. She has Lupus and one of the major symptoms of Lupus is arthritis. Whenever she gets going it flares up. So it will have to be a slow process. But I will get her there.

I love competing and would love for her to join me one day. But, that will be a ways off...and thats ok.

when it comes to starvation, or more appropriately called deficit dieting, I don't know squat!

but a few more details are now available for someone who may be able to help.

Sweat Daily!

Has she been gaining weight at 3200 or is she maintaining at 3200?

If shes maintaining at 3200, she will lose weight dropping down to 2000.
