Hello all that may stumble across this. Just a little information about me, I'm 25 and currently 190 lbs at only 5'1" .. So that puts me in the medical system at morbidly obese ... which I thought would be people that might have trouble getting around ..... but thats where my bmi is. Im supposed to weigh between 90 and 130 .. thats what i have been told would be a healthy weight for me. I had gastric bypass surgery in 06 and lost 100 lbs and did great until my fiance joined the military and the stress of being engaged to a military man and then married to one was overwheming and I gained 30 lbs back. I love him more than anything but its something im not used to that I will have to get used to. Anyway, I decided to join here and maybe if I was held accountable for my actions I would be more likely to do the right thing.

I started yesterday and did 30 mins of cardio/aerobics on the wii fit. Not sure why but for some reason I have been even more hungry then normal today. Anyone know if working out makes you hungry? My main struggles with food is I use it to make me feel better, as most of us do. I LOVE chocolate and now that we are stationed in Germany ... who is FAMOUS for their chocolate I try to resist as much as I can but most of the time I give in around that time of the month. (TMI.. I know lol)

So ... This is the beginning of the rest of my life ... and anyone that needs encouragement or wants to give some is welcome to follow along :)
 
Welcome to the forum, yes training makes you hungry and you should plan to eat within 20 minutes of finishing a workout.

What does your diet look like at the moment ?

Also remember BMI is not everything.
 
Wow, its been almost a month since I started this .. Now that I am back home in Germany and not on vacation anymore .. Im kicking it into gear .. My hubby and I unpacked for the past two days and altho I still have lots to do .. I made sure the wii fit was hooked up and Im all ready go to !! The past week that I have been back to Germany I havent eaten like I did before I left ... Im listening to my body and trying to only eat with Im actually hungry and that seems to be working good. I did gain weight while I was visiting family in the states but thats ok cuz its not going to be there for long. Thinking about gettin an elliptical .. and ideas on good ones?

My diet today ... Breakfast ... Ffew bites of mac n cheese

Lunch - Fresh Strawberries and a pb&j (Not healthy I know but I needed something fast while we unpacked)

Dinner - spaghetti with some prego sause.

So today isnt the best food choices .. but i dont have much to choose from since I havent gone shopping ... Hubby works for the next 3 days .. so those menus might looks something like this ... blah.

Thats all for now .... its after 1 in the morning ... time to unpack some more boxes :)
 
Day 3

No change in weight yesterday morning ... BUT This morning .. down 8 ounces !! 196.2. All i have done the past 4 months is gain so this feels pretty nice !! Menu is whatever i can find since we havent went shopping ... and altho im cleaning and unpacking I havent been using my wii fit. I will get there tho. Anyway thats all for now :) See you tom :)
 
Day 3 Cont...

Menu for today

Breakfast-Ham and cheese sandwich and mountain dew (its like my coffee lol)

Lunch-Grilled Chicken Sandwich

Dinner-Popcorn (hubby and I went to the movies and I ate HALF of the SMALL bag of popcorn .. but they did put butter on it ..)

Dinner was 5 hrs ago ... and im feeling pretty hungry ... good thing hubby and I loaded up on fresh vegs and fruit today :)

Snack - ham n cheese sandwich and an apple :)
 
Nom nom nom, I love popcorn! Always so hard to go to the cinema and not have any! I've a friend who makes her own to take so she doesn't feel left out of the eating and it's much better for you!

Thats a fantastic idea .. I will have to do that next time I actually know im going .. this was an unexpected trip LOL .. but next time i know im going ... so doing this ..Thanks ! :)
 
WOO HOO .. This morning the scale said 194.2 .... thats two more lbs gone ! LOL ... I know I shouldnt get this excited cuz its prolly mostly water weight ... havent been drinking much lol ... But it still feels good :)
 
Day 4 Cont

Menu from today

Breakfast - ham and cheese sandwich and 9 pretzels and one can coke zero

Lunch - Apple

Snack - Orange

Dinner - Baked potato with one tablespoon butter and salt, 6 oz chicken with salt, pepper, and orange zest with a little bit of olive oil cooked on the stove.

No caffeine today & no chocolate .... surprised myself LOL .. and im actually ok with it ... i mean I have loads of pop in the fridge and some nice german chocolate in the cabinet and i dont even want it ... I have dieted before but it normally lasted a day or so ... I feel really good about this online food diary thing ... I think it holds me accoutable .. and I dont want to end up typing my food journal at the end of the day and have all sorts of bad things in there LOL .. so Thanks to anyone that may come across and read all my rambling :)
 
Day 5

No weight change this morning .. but no gain :D

Menu from today

Breakfast - Ham and cheese sandwich & strawberries and one can pepsi

Lunch - Half a bananna and half of a peanut butter sandwich

Dinner - Baked potato with 1 T butter and salt, Baked chicken (Shake n Bake Hot N Spicy kind)

So its almost 9 pm and i have only been up since noon (Woke up with a terrible migraine so I took some medicine and went back to sleep, that was nice) , but im just a lil over 1000 cals so if i get hungry later and eat something its not a horrible thing LOL ..

After getting this house done im really looking forward to using the wii fit ... but on the days my hubby is off work .. i just wanna lay around with him .. those are the days i need more motivation. Oh well I will get there soon enough :) Thats all for now :)


(Three and a half hrs later ..... )

Laid in bed for a couple hrs and decided I couldnt sleep ... was feeling hungry and thought food might make me sleepy (I know shouldnt have thought it ) So ... I ate some more ....

Leftovers ...
1 Small baked potato and 1 T butter
4 oz of the chicken
1 Cup grapes

and now ... im stuffed .. and sleepy ... cant get back into the habit of eating right before bed ... I know thats bad .... anyway .. see you all tom and hope all is well on your journey !!!! :)


(Three hours later ) ... So i didnt go to sleep .,.. talked to mom on skype and played farmville on facebook ... man is it additcting LOL ...SOOO... we can add a bananna and a spoon of peanut butter to my menu from today .... im guessing the scale wont be moving tom morn ....

glad to hear you're doing okay minus the migrain :) Hopefully you get to use your wii fit soon, I hear from a lot of people that it is a great work out! How are things in Germany?

Yes the wii fit is AWESOME !! I couldnt use it at first cuz we didnt have a transformer (germany outlets ... cant plug some stuff into them or that item BLOWS) but now that i have one I can :) )

Things are good, hubby normally works alot so im here by myself most of the time .. but for the past couple days he has not worked much .. so he is up and at work and home before i even get up LOL .. and he is off the next couple of days .. since i dont normally get to see him this much im trying to spend as much time with him as I can :) OH and its FINALLY starting to warm up ... it actually rained here today INSTEAD of snow !!! WOOO HOO :)

I just want to wish you luck on your weight loss journey! I don't have much time right now, but later I'll try to read more of your posts.

PS - I saw you post on smurf's diary (she's my sister-in-law) :D I just wanted to thank you for posting in her new diary because when you're new it's hard at first, especially when you don't know many people, so I really appreciate it :D

This mornings weight 193.6

Todays menu ...

Hubby woke me up for lunch which was pineapple chicken over rice and half piece of bread .. so sweet i know but i didnt eat the rice or pineapple so just chicken and bread for me for breakfast (noon)

Lunch - one can green beans and half a peanut butter sandwich (3 or 4 pm)

Dinner-Hubby made dinner for me and friends- a roast with potatoes and veggies but i only ate a little roast and potato with a lil bit of butter (around 8 pm)

snack- apple (2 am)

late dinner I guess ... one apple and a ham and cheese sandwich and a few pretzels (6:30 am)

Oh and two cans mountain dew through the day. .. bad i know ..

Today kinda sucked ... felt totally worthless today .... a little better after friends came over and hung out ... but I just wanted to eat chocolate all day and eat bad for me things .... why do I wanna do that when I feel so bad about myself ... I dont wanna use food as a comfort .... I will be better after I go to bed and wake up later on ... today was just an "I feel worthless and ugly" kinda day .... hate those ....

Thought I'd say hi as I'm also 25 and basically the same weight as you so I thought I'd drop in and say hopefully we can support each other!

Got some tips which I hope help as they've been doing for me

  • buy some one cal spray and use it instead of butter! I put it on toast and potatoes now and it saves tons of calories!
  • buy in diet drinks and low cal snacks! I know - I've been a religious anti Diet coke person for years but now I kinda like it. I tend to cheat with my low cal version of high fat foods which does less damage than drinking a full fat can of coke and eating a bag of crisps.

well done on even the small weight loss and good luck!

I completely understand how hard it is to live somewhere where your partner has a job and you did not decide to go there or are particularly happy with it. I spent a year in Ghana because my boyfriend was sent there but after a year I couldn't do it anymore, I am now back in Europe (Spain) and he is still over there.
So I understand how quickly one starts to make bad choices when generally life just isn't what you though it would be. I got depressive in my final 3 months over there and it was trying to say the least, as a persno and as a couple. I also regained about 10 pounds I had already lost.

Now, your food choices are not great, girl! I mean your breakfasts alone are pretty unhealthy, why don't you try to find some cereal, yoghurt, fruit... normal breakfast stuff. There is a reason why most people eat that as a breakfast and the reason is that it gives you a good start to a day. You get carbs from the cereal (if it is wholegrain it is even better), dairy for your internal regulation and for calcium and vit D (especially important when in cold countries with little sunlight, like Germany), fruit for fibre and vitamins.
Eating leftovers for breakfast is not good, you are eating a lot of calories without even thinking and you won't stay full for that long!
Also you should try to incorporate generally more salads, soups (vegetable ones not creamy cheesy ones!), raw or boiled/steamed/sauteed vegetables... I don't know if you don't write it down possibly, but the only veg so far in your diary seems to be potatoes and those are starchy, high cal veggies. You need green ones! And fruit! "An apple a day keeps the dr away!" ;)!

Read the stickies in the nutrition section (and sports of course, but I feel nutrition is abigger issue for you right now!) and try to come up with a better meal plan for you guys, I know on base it is harder to buy some things (but easier to buy some others), but once you know what is good for you and what your body needs you can start chosing. You don't have to chose all the best superhealthy stuff, but at least when you do chose unhealthy stuff KNOW what you are putting inside of you!

You will quickly realize how easy and yummy it is to eat right and you will feel so much better overall. And you don't need to deprive yourself of anything but eat with your head as well as with your tummy, so if you want choc eat it (I do!) but stop after a piece or two, if you want a PB&J sandwich (check out the cals on the PB... it is HUGELY fatty!) have it, but maybe use less PB or just have it once every fortnight or so.

Thanks for stopping by !! Always great to hear from more people :D I thought about that spread, but didnt know what it would be like, next grocery trip i will get some :D Thanks :)

I KNOW i need to stop drinking the pop ... i guess its like my coffee .. i need it every morning .. but I got some coke zero .. and im gonna switch to that until I dont need any pop at all. Thanks for all the info and support, lord knows I need all that I can get lol :)

I know i havent made all good decisions but I didnt know i was doing that bad .. :( My menus have been for the most part around 1000 cals a day .. cept for yesterday which was around 1500. I use the lean meats for my sandwichs and I use the less processed cheese and I use the wheat breads. My meals are kinda mixed up since my breakfast's are my hubbys lunches or dinners since Im not on the same waking hrs as his work schedule. Like today my breakfast is his dinner ... Should i not do that and just make HIS dinner and eat a normal breakfast ? How important is it to eat breakfast foods in the am and dinner foods at night ? The only time my hubby and I have together on the days he works is dinner ... and he like to eat the same thing together .. but if I need to change that .. he would understand.

Im completely new to cooking .. so I dont have ideas on what to make ... my hubby is a meat and potatoes kinda guy .. I thought i was doing ok by baking the potatoes and not mashing them or frying them ... any ideas on what healthy sides I could make with whatever meat I am cooking ?

I know salads are GOOD for you .. but the only way I can eat em .. is with a TON of ranch dressing .. so I was kinda steering clear of them..

I know its not good but i was an picky eater .. and my parents didnt venture out into the unknown when it came to foods .. it was pretty much a meat, a potato, maybe mac n cheese and some kinda veg EVERY night .. so I have no idea on what to cook for dinners ... cept that ... and pasta dishes ... Im just kinda clueless over all i guess.

Any help and advice is GREATLY appreciated ..
