heel and knee pain after treadmill workouts

once again, after using the treadmill , my left knee and right heel were in pain- the next morning they were throbbing- I've always have a limp after working out on a treadmill. Obviously my weight is the cause of the pain- Should I stop using the treadmill? If so, what are some good cardio exercise alternatives that won't damage my knees or heels? My calves also ache. Should I ice them after workouts?
Thanks

If you want to run, you absolutely need to get the proper running shoes. Go to a real running store and ask them to help you with picking shoes. A good running store will have you run on a treadmill so they can determine the best type of shoe for your gait. So, definitely do that!

If you feel like the pressure is still too much on your joints, you can try a lower impact cardio exercise until you drop some weight. The elliptical is good, as well as biking or swimming.

I find the elliptical to be a great alternative to the treadmill. Screwing up your knees is no joke, so I'd honestly switch to more elliptical if you're having knee issues. The right shoes can help, but having screwed up my own knees from running while fat... I couldn't recommend it. You don't run to get in shape, you get in shape to run ;)
