Happy and Healthy

you have such a friendly face! Love the bonfire pics! And you are doing fine. i have to to tell you that even in the face of some backsliding sometimes, if you can keep the portion control and working out, it helps a lot. i lost 20 lbs this summer and I know I was not always a very good girl in either working out or my food choices:reddevil:

And I think we are on the same 'water weighty' schedule:rant: I'm on the downslide now though, but compounded the problem with beer:cheers2: *doh*

I'll be watching your progress too. Best wishes to you!:cheers2:

Hello Mariah!

I was just reading through, and like you I am also studying nutrition with a minor in exercise science. I have battled with my weight my entire life and its become my obsession and I figured I might as well study something related to it because I have sooo much personal experience.

I am only 2 years into my program and haven't really learned much, just the basics. How did you get into the industry so quickly? I have looked for jobs but everything requires a degree or previous experience. I would like to get a job before I graduate so that I can get some experience and really learn the ins and outs of nutrition.

Anyway, I wish you luck on you journey!

Oh and BTW you are gorgeous!! Such a beautitul face!!

Cheers,
Miss D

Thanks for reading through on my journals Its great to feel the motivation from everyone! Congrats on the 20 lbs this summer! I totally agree keeping up with portion control and exercise really helps in maintaining weight more effectively and will help my backsliding some more haha..just gotta kick my ass into gear!

what kind of things do you do for exercise?

Well it varies where Im at, but when Im living with my parents I like to play tennis and golf with my boyfriend, and go bike riding and roller blading. But I also have small 8lb hand weights and an ab ball in my room that I like to use. When Im at school I swim a lot of laps and use the eliptical and cardio machines quite a bit. I also practice meditation and yoga :)

ohh I totally agree with you on the personal experiences helping with your field of study, thats how I got into it, and then it stemmed from me wanting to study nutrition and exercise so I can help people who are going through what i went through. Treating eating disorders, working in a fitness center, etc..

I am currently in my third year of study and actually found this job through my school program, we are required to do field experience as well as an intership before we graduate and this summer working at the VA Hospital was my field experience. My program advisor sends us all emails about openings in the surrounding areas, and this one just happened to be close to where my parents lived so I interviewed for it and luckily i got it! Its hard because a lot of paying jobs want experience, but the volunteering was actually more benefital to me than the food service worker job, so if yo ucould find somewhere to volunteer at for food and nutrition than id strongly reccommend it!

and thanks so much for the compliment :) and for stopping by my journal--i greatly appreciate it!

Mariah

Wish I could tell you how I changed. I'd like to know it myself.
But I wish you the best and I know you can do it just like I did. (You never got as heavy as I got, so maybe it'll be easier for you. :) One can hope, anyway.)

Annnnyyyyywhoooooo... Good luck!!!

You are too sweet! I know exactly what you mean! Thanks so much for the happy wishes and good luckies! ;)

Im so glad people are stopping by my journal :blush5: It makes things so much easier when I have support!

Well not much has happened since yesterday I ate out twice--which was a no good situation, but I was with friends and there is absoloutley no food in the house...

I had an appointment with my psychologist this morning, which I ended up skipping...(I know I shouldnt have--but im not really sure why I didnt go?) Dont get me wrong I really like my Psychologist I think shes super sweet and understanding, but even though I always feel better after we have our appointment--I think its incredibly awkward sitting there talking about my life with someone; and even though she knows what shes doing, Im one of her first cases of having an eating disorder and I dont think she really knows what to ask or listen for, but then again I could be completely wrong...

I will probably call today and set up another appointment, but I was just a dead beat and didn't go this morning. I instead slept in (which was highly needed) and have packed more, since I leave for school and my new apartment on Tuesday.

Otherwise not much has happened except for I made a lovely breakfast this morning of blueberry pancakes, and 2 scrambeled eggs.

Todays tallys:
breakfast:
4-4 in blueberry pancakes :160
2 scrambeled eggs w/ 2% cheese: 200
Butter and light syrup: 100
snack:
1 piece of peanut butter toast: 180
8 club crackers: 100?
lunch:
Stouffers noodley thing w/veggies and pasta: 290
Dinner:
1-1/2 cans sweet potatoes drained of syrup: 300?
2 oz chicken: 110
small handful of chocolate covered cashews: 200?
Total: around 1,500ish --> Not bad Not Bad :)

Not too bad so far--I think :coolgleamA:

I'm wondering if you could find a psychologist that specializes in eating disorders. I agree that your current one is qualified but as far as knowing what to listen for maybe not so much.... I don't know how willing you are to talk about your problem, but you might ask one of the directors in your program if they could referr you to someone. It never hurts to keep your options open ya know. :)

MMMM bluberry pancakes... sounds delish!!

I assume school starts after the 1st?? Are you excited??? I always get the school butterflies a few days before it starts... but I am excited to be getting back to it!:seeya:

Well I defintely have a specialized team thats helping me overcome my problem I have a Psychiatrist, a Psychologist, and I was seeing a Registered Dietitian on campus who helped a lot with my diet, weigh ins, etc..

Last semester before the end of the year my dietitian referred me to the counseling center at our university for a triage therapy group, but I told her I wasn't really ready to be in group therapy just yet (id prefer individualized) and so I know there are defintely resources for me to tap back into once I get to school, which I may have to email my dietitian once im on campus!

Our classes start on the 3rd, but I have to move up on the 26th for one on my jobs (training, moving in, etc) I am a freshmen peer advisor and so they require us to move in a little early to help with freshmen orientation. Im excited to go back to school, to get out of my parents house :banghead:, as well as start classes, and see a lot of my school f riends that Im unable to see during the summer. I defintely am getting an upperclassmen ego though, so i dont really get nervous for the first day of school or anything but I do get that little fluttery feeling when you walk into the first day of your class and theres already a ton of people in the room :puke: lol!

That's good that your campus offers that and they have open doors. Kudos to you for getting help. I know there are tons of people out there who don't because of various reasons... I'm glad you did!

Starting a new semester is always fun. I tend to not participate in campus activities only because I work so many hours and live about 20 mins from campus... it makes finding time to socialize difficult. I think its great your helping out with the freshmen! And I know what you mean about the ego, I always laugh at the incoming freshman girls looking like they should be going to the club and not school... jeans and tees and sneakers for me thank you very much!!

Well I'm right there with you and started it by joining your challenge. Weigh in looked good today so we'll see where it is 3 days from now for the official. It is the weekend after all.:blush5: But, yes, I'm learning my lesson in at least maintaining when you aren't up to the full brunt of working out and eating right. At least when you go back to it you aren't starting from square one again and that at the very least is gratifying. Thanks for the congrats. I try not to relish in them too much lest I forget I'm not done yet next time I order pizza for the kids.

Oooh...mad4, I just took a class that incorporate tai chi and yoga. I'd always thought I'd like to try one or the other after watching people practice tai chi out in San Fran. I loved it. I don't think I ever tried before because I felt I was too ridiculously out of shape to balance anything or stretch far. I was very relaxing. i went grocery shopping after and my body felt like it was jello, but not overworked, just relaxed. I can see what I've been missing. It's a really full person workout--mind, body...:cheers2:

Well after a full day of packing and spending some time with the boyfriend last night * plus a little added exercise :blush5: * I am off to go get my hair cut and highlighted and go get my eyes checked..I really want color contacts again even though I dont need glasses *Im crazy!*

Then I have "Date night" with the boyfriend--which includes us getting all cuted up going out to dinner and then maybe some fun activity afterwards! My boyfriend and I have been together 5 years (last march) so we have to set aside a special time to get all cute for eachother and declare a date night otherwise we just veg out in front of the TV looking less than cute lol!

I Love Date Nights! Mexican sounds delicious! My boyfriend is big on the food thing so they had this deal where it was all you can eat chicken fingers and fries at Applebees (an all american kind of diner) so he wanted to go there. I ended up getting a toasted turkey sandwich on cibatta bread and some fries :) No all you can eat for me! Haha!

Angel 98--Oooh...mad4, I just took a class that incorporate tai chi and yoga. I'd always thought I'd like to try one or the other after watching people practice tai chi out in San Fran. I loved it. I absoloutely love yoga, I just recently got into meditation and balancing my chakras, it is completely relaxing and I am so glad that I found it! I think its something everyone would benefit from. Ive never done tai chi but I would defintely consider it!

So yesterday was quite a busy day for me I went and got my hair done, I got some blondey highlights, it is a little different for me but I think I'll like it. I am going to post a picture maybe later. Then I went and got my eyes checked at the doctor and ordered some color contacts (Blue and Green!), but it looks like im a little farsighted *Yikes* so my eye doctor suggested some reading glasses for me, which I might Have to look into with school starting and everything...

Heres a before picture (dark hair dark eyes) andddd

After pic (light hair blue eyes)

Its a very dramatic change what do u think?

Then I went and got all dolled up at my boyfriends house and we went out to dinner at Applebees, I <3 spending quality time with him, Im gunna miss seeing that little booger close to everyday when I have to go back to school! He used to go to a school in Michigan but just transfered to the University of Minnesota so he'll be a lot closer which is wayyy nicer! Then we went and stopped at his work to check his schedule and then I made him go to Petco with me..I own two chinchillas (Hence my SN) and I absoloutely adore them and I love buying them new toys PLUS all the cute little animals at the petstore. Then we went back to his house and spent some quality time with the Wii :smilielol5: and eachother. But I was so exhausted that I ended up staying over at his house I live about 20 minutes away from him *driving distance* so sometimes its a big challenge to drive home late at night! Today involves a long day of packing and organizing all of my stuff, I WAS going to go school clothes shopping today but I can't really stomach spending money on clothes right now I am pretty poor so I may have to wait until my loan kicks through and I can pay my credit cards! But awh well I can wait!

Yesterday for dinner I had
