its 6 weeks to christmas, about time to turn my life around. its also coming in to summer over here in Australia, which means its time to get the beach bod out (scary thought!).
i was never overweight as a kid, but in the past 9 months i have moved interstate for university, started living in residential college, become single and put on 15 kg (33 pounds)!
so i have started this diary to record my days over the next 6 weeks.

START:
Age: 19
Weight: 83kg (183 pounds)
Height: 176cm (approx 5"9 i think)
Waist: 86cm
Thigh: 65cm
Arm: 34cm

XMAS GOAL:
Weight: 78 kg (173 pounds)

My overall goal is to be back to 70kg (154 pounds) by my 20th birthday on March 27th.

I'll keep a food and exercise journal so everyone can keep track of me.

Started my challenge on Friday and its now Sunday so here's my food/exercise over the last 2 days:

Friday 13/11

Breakfast:
2 boiled egg whites only
bowl of sultana bran with no fat milk
1 banana
black tea

Lunch:
1 honey chicken drumstick
mixed salad with lettuce, cucumber, carrot, capsicum
fruit salad with watermelon, rockmelon and honey dew

Dinner:
1/2 beef steak
1 roast potato
mixed vegetables with broccoli cauliflower carrot beans and peas
1 slice white toast with vegemite

Dessert:
Fruit salad see lunch

Exercise: no set exercise. just had work for 5 hours (i'm a bartender) and had an exam so i walked to uni and home (about 20 mins)
Cigarettes: NONE!! Big achievement. Hopefully I can keep it going.


Saturday 14/11

Breakfast:
bowl of Just Right with no fat milk

Lunch:
chicken sandwich with lettuce, cucumber and carrot
1 small chocolate donut =(

Dinner:
2 small "healthy fiesta" burritos with chicken lettuce and cheese (homemade...YUM!)

Dessert:
1 bowl banana and low fat custard

Exercise:
30 mins yoga and 15 mins muscle workouts on the Wii Fit
20 min run (good start - hopefully step it up to 30 mins next week)
cleaned out my car (finally!)
Cigarettes: NONE!

So its been a pretty good start and i'm pretty impressed that i haven't lost it over the weekend like i normally would.

Because I live at a residential college all meals are prepared for us, so its a matter of sorting through for the good stuff. Its so hard when there's all sorts of chocolate puddings, pancakes, croissants and pies to tempt you though. haha

I think the biggest challenge will be at the end of this week. Its the end of our uni year which means so many end of year parties and also the fact that i will have to move out and start to cook for myself. I enjoy cooking but i'm worried about those days that im tired or lazy and will grab for the closest energy packed food.
I also lose my gym membership when i move out so im hoping to join a social club either in netball, basketball or tennis over the summer. Or at least make myself go for a walk/jog around the block a few times.

Just to update:

Sunday 15/11
Breakfast:
a mango and a bowl of banana with low fat custard
cup of tea (i love tea!!)

Lunch:
a burrito from last nights dinner

Dinner:
spaghetti bolognese
i also had a sneaky glass of red wine.

Exercise:
30 mins yoga and 30 mins of other on the wii (did some kung fu, virtual cycling and hula hooping!)
also had work for 5 hours. i'm not sure whether you could count work as exercise though. i might find a pedometer to wear and see how far i actually walk.
Cigarettes:
I was so tempted because I saw my sister today who is a smoker. But just being around her smoke made me feel sick and light headed. Which i think is a good motivator for keeping with it.


Monday 16/11
Breakfast:
bowl of just right with a banana
2 boiled egg whites (ive never liked the yolk so i pull it out hehe)

Lunch:
slice of pumpkin quiche (it wasn't very nice)
mixed salad
a few chips with sour cream
fruit salad

Snack:
I went to do some Christmas shopping (ripping my hair out) and got a banana smoothie from Wendy's

Dinner:
mixed salad and vegetables
fruit salad
a scoop of choc caramel icecream

Hasn't been the best day with food. I guess the only upside is that my servings of bad food are getting smaller. In the past I would have had 3-4 scoops of icecream so im pretty excited about that.

Exercise: none. also something to work on.
Cigarettes: none

I'm going to try to update every day so it's not all in a huge chunk like today.

Australia is a beautiful place! You should definitely come to visit one day.
It's almost summer so the weather is AMAZING!!

which campus are you on ?

The gym for the queensland university powerlifting club is cheap and located in the scout hall next to St Lucia Campus and is cheaper than the uni gym or other comercial gyms. It doesn't look flash but has the esentials when you move out of your residence.

Today was so hot! Which made it all the more difficult to move away from the fan. I managed to make myself go to the gym though.
I can see that I'm starting to snack a bit, back to old habits, but I found myself choosing smaller options and actually looking at the nutritional content which is a start. If only supermarkets weren't air conditioned, then I would stay at home. haha!

Today so far Tues 17/11
Breakfast: bowl just right with no fat milk, 1 boiled egg white
Lunch: shepherds pie, mixed green salad, fruit salad
Snack: small chocolate milk, cookies and cream icecream (i think im addicted to dairy :drool5:)

Exercise: 30mins elliptical 30 mins bike at the gym (615 cals)
Cigarettes: none

I'm thinking about doing a home workout later tonight.
The plan is:
15 x 3 sets (girl)push ups
20 x 3 sets crunches
15 x 3 sets squats
15 x 3 sets lunges
20sec x 3 sets planks
Then maybe some stretches just to ease up.

Just heard thunder outside, hoping for a big storm tonight. It always makes me productive and I have my last exam for the year tomorrow at 8am! :svengo:

Off to dinner now. Wish me luck! =D
 
I just heard the thunder as well, its looking promising, the temp guage in the car registered 45 C in the sun today ack!

good luck for tomorrow :) and your bodyweight workout tonight should help you relax and get a good night sleep.
 
Having a bad night. So stressed out. I dropped my phone and it broke, jammed my finger in the door, had a dragonfly hanging around my room (SCARY!!). And i just can't get into study mode! D=

Dinner:
plate of vegetables
2 slices of rye toast with honey
can of coke zero

Had a small triumph, when i was upset about my phone my friend offered me some chocolate (the super yummy lindt balls) and i declined. So i'm not stress eating or emotional eating for once. Big turnaround!

So i have come to the conclusion that

b) i am obsessed with procrastinating from study (my 3rd post for the day):banghead:
c) its about time i put some pics up as my starters. I took them tonight. Sorry they're not too clear. But a good motivator to reduce my muffin top and pot belly i have going on. You also can't see my legs which are a major problem area for me thanks to my dad and his tree trunks.

Also chucked an extra piccy up of my lunch the other day (my sister made it for me). :smilielol5:

That is so funny that's it hot. I'm sitting here in front of my fireplace with a big sweater on, and am just so thankful it didn't snow again last night so I don't have to shovel ;)

Great job on turning down the chocolate. That is a major accomplishment. Nice pictures. You look great already. I know when you reach your goal you will be fabulous. Keep up the good work.

So glad it is winter. I am not a fan of summer. It is really hot and humid here during the summer. I don't know how you do it without air conditioning.

It is super you aren't smoking. Good for you! :hurray:

it been a couple of days and so much has happened!!

so i had my final exam. ACED IT!!! and then headed out on an overnight beach holiday with 3 friends. The weather was amazing and it was so relaxing just being in the pool or on the beach. so nice!

On the food side of things, it wasn't so great. I started well, had healthy breakfast before my exam, had a chicken sandwich for lunch and then for dinner i bought a weight watchers lasagne (while the other girls ate pizza) and then had a couple of party pies. Exercise was okay, went on a beach walk and searched for crabs and then spent hours mucking about in the pool.

Then on Thursday we started out with pancakes for brekkie (the sleepover staple) and i opted for lemon and sugar rather than smothering it in syrup!
Went swimming at the beach and i actually got a bit of a tan. a big thing for my pastey white skin. On the way home we got fish and chips, so for lunch i had a few chips and 3 party pies from the night before. :(
i also snacked on a chocolate milk. dinner i just had 2 pieces of toast (which appear again later on in the evening).

It was a big celebration night at college, since we have to move out tomorrow, and i went a little too hard on the vodka! had a great night dancing until it all hit me and i ended up with my face in the toilet bowl at the club, my friends and a bouncer carrying me out, somehow getting me home (i dont remember this part), and continuing to be sick until about 3pm today. For lunch my friends got me a sausage roll and banana smoothie to cure my EPIC hangover.

So I'm a little scared to jump on the scales tomorrow...hopefully i'll pull through.
Went to see New Moon tonight. So funny to hear the young girls sigh when Jacob took his shirt off!! (I also sighed a little inside, YUM!!)

Moved out of college this morning. So sad! Now I'm living with my sister until I find my own place which means cooking my own meals (finally).
I've done a meal plan for the week and went grocery shopping, so i'm all ready to get back on track this week.

Still haven't had any cigarettes. I'm so happy about that and feel like im breathing easier and have more energy overall.

Weighed myself today, down 3 lbs! Hopefully next week will be even more dramatic after a big KICK ASS WEEK!

My new challenge is to stay off alcohol until christmas, definitely need to drink more water, and to get into the habit of doing more exercise. Im planning a morning walk every day this week. I also want to get back into tennis and now that i'm living with my sister I actually have a partner to play with.

I exhausted right now. But i have to go get ready to work 9:30pm - 3am. Sleep in tomorrow. Might go for a swim too since its SO HOT!!!

Snack: 2 slices toast with vegemite

D: Have planned to have a burrito

Got called in to work tonight at 6pm so i'll have to have my dinner late when i get a break.

I'm in such a bad mood today. Annoyed because its too hot to exercise and i don't want to sit around the house all day. Now that i'm on holidays i think i need to find a hobby so i don't laze around eating all day. Need to keep busy. I'm also stressed because i'm in the middle of buying a house, or at least looking for a house to buy.
I weighed myself on the wii fit this morning and i've lost another .5 kgs(1.1lbs) in 2 days which is a positive.

Hope i'm in a better mood tomorrow. I'm going to the beach again which should be relaxing!!
 
Have you considered going to a water aerobics class ? keep cool and get fit at the same time :)

Thats such a good idea! I just went and bought a new swimsuit yesterday so it all makes sense! haha.

Weighed myself again today on the wii fit. down another .5kg and it said i only need to lose another .6 to be in the healthy bmi range.
Only another 1.5 to be under 80kg!
It's so exciting when hard work starts paying off. So i'm planning to be under 80 by friday 4th dec. and then it will be only 3 weeks until chrismas which i think i can try to lose another 4kg by then.
So Christmas, I might actually be at 76kg!

I need to step up my exercise still. And i have been snacking a fair bit this week =(. I'm trying to have a bigger breakfast so I don't feel so hungry during the day though. Going to play tennis this friday. I'm so excited.

its been a few days since my last entry, and i swore i would keep up with my diary everyday. So starting a fresh heres my stats for today:

Breakfast:

Microwaved potato with light sour cream and grated cheese
Mixed salad

Dinner:
Steamed Vegies
Spaghetti bolognaise (cooking it now!)

Exercise:
30 mins yoga
30 mins cardio on the wii fit

I'm feeling bad today, i put on 1.5kgs (3.3 lbs) overnight...is that even possible!!!??? I did have a couple glasses of wine last night at a 21st birthday, but not 1.5kgs worth!

So i went out clubbing last night and looking at the photos this morning makes me hate how i am now and has motivated me to intensify my efforts even more. When i go out with my friends, they all look amazing, tanned, toned and they're confident in themselves. And there i am the pastey white blob in the corner. Enough of the complaining though, its about time i seriously did something about it.

Wish me luck, starting over again.
 
you won't have gained that much overnight, it is most likely water weight, have you been having much salt in your diet ? there are several reason why the body retains water but salt is a major one.
