Hand troubles (especially while benching)

For the past few months I've been having this pain in the palm of my hand, mostly while bench pressing, but also when using other weights.

The problem started after playing racquetball one day.

To reduce the pain (and hopefully aid in recovery), I now tape my hand, and use the wrist supports I got with my rollerblades. It has a plastic insert which (I think) redistributes the weight to my forearm.

Although this DOES seem to help, does anyone know of anything I can use which may be better suited? The wristguard really isn't shaped too well for this purpose, but like I said, it helps!

that also might make it really hard to grip and be kinda dangerous.

Any idea how this happened. was it like a sudden pain? How long have you laid off any exercise before trying again? it may just need some time to heal.

The fact that its in your palm is kinda weird. I play racquetball twice a week and ive never experienced pain in my palm

Yea- It's not as stable as I'd like, but I'm doing much lesser weights now.

I must've strained something in my hand that day (I've been playing racqueball over 10 years and never had a problem before!).

I stayed inactive for about a month, and it just never fully healed. I'm back to racquetball again (It's been about 4 months) with no pain.

Now it's just lifting that bothers it. I was hoping I could find something better than the wrist-gaurd for better safety and stability.

Start doing more exercises that emphasize your grip. The pads in your hands are muscle, so it can be built up. I've felt that pain before, but it's since gone away. I sometimes feel a pain in my wrist when I bench because I had broken my wrist as a kid, but now I take "triflex" and it seems to be helping me out a lot. You gotta try and give your body all the support you can when you are stressing it out the way that weight training does. Good luck
