Grey Ghost Hunter's Diary

Thought I would post a couple before and after face pictures. The first is from last summer when I weighed around 215 lbs the second is from the other day at 181.

Hey M, yea I know I can have the campfire pies. It's just what I put in it is the problem. My two had leftover BBQ Pork Rib, mushrooms and Cheese.:drool5:

Anywho, I didn't get to run this morning cause of a little thing called a thunderstorm. So I waited until I got off of work to run. This had to be the weirdest run I've ever had. When I started out I felt like I was real bouncey. Once I got to the half mile mark I started to feel heavy all of a sudden. Then for the majority of the run I felt slow until the last 1/4 mile I felt really fast. Told you it was a weird run. In the end I ran 30:05 sec. for a distance of 3.4 miles. This was also the competition of the C25K program. I can't believe I did it.

Now for the hard part. I have 1 week to get ready for the 4 mile race. It should be to much of a problem considering that I just ran 3.4 in just over 30 min.

My goal it to (well finish the damn thing without stopping) finish under 45 min.

TOTAL C25K MILES: 77.70

Congrats on finishing the program, your times look really good! I don't think you will have any problems with 4 miles, just be sure to start a little slower so that you can save some energy for the end. Also, be sure to take AT LEAST two days off before the race, your body will need the recovery time before you hit the start line.

btw, I weighed again this morning and I'm still at 180.4... sigh, are we ever going to get out of the 180s! lol.

Once my move is complete I think I'm going to start a new journal for the last 20 pounds... I don't know about you but I am SO ready to be at my ideal weight!

This morning's run was my first attempt/practice run of 4 miles. The good part, I finished the 4 miles without stopping. The great part, I did it in 36:39. I couldn't believe it. I was just hoping to get under 45:00.

After I ran I had a thought. I ran the 4 miles with my mp3 on listening to music. The question is; Will I have the same results when I run without the music? Guess I'll find out Weds day when I run without it.

Thanks Seeker.

Ran my second practice run of the 4 mile this morning. During the whole run I felt extremely fast. So it was quit a suprise when I hit the 2 mile mark and my time was 18:35. Thats 38 seconds slower than Saturday. I didn't know what to think, and that was the bad part, I started thinking. About that time I slapped my self back into reality and told myself not to worry about it because that wasn't the goal. The goal was/is to just finish the run strong. Even thou I did say earlier that I wanted to be under 45 min. That isn't as important as it is to finish strong. Anyways, I finished my run just as planned looked at my watch and seen that I finished at 36:47. Only 8 seconds slower than Saturday. So after recomposing myself after the half way point I made up serious time and finished the last 2 miles in 18:12.

GGH - Have you practiced running in different places? Also, have you done any hill work? Do you know if the course for Saturday is hilly?

Hills took me by surprise during my first 5K. Even if the course description says 'no hills', it may be a good idea to drive (or walk) the course before running it. If your not expecting hills, and then they pop up in the middle of the run you may not have enough energy to make it through.

I can only run 3 miles on a hilly surface - but 4-5 on a flat surface. They make a huge difference.

Yea I've seen the course. I work about 2 blocks from the start and finish line. There is one slight incline hill at the beginning and the rest is pretty much flat until the end when you run back down the incline to the finish. The road I run on now has more hills than this race.

:smilielol5:
That's great.

I need to move away from places with 'hill' in the name. "HILLsborough"... "Chapel HILL"...

:smilielol5: Good one DW

Well I ran my last 4 mile practice run this morning. Only difference from before to now was that I ran with no head phones on. I've gotten so use to running with a beat in my head I wanted to make sure I get the same results without the beat.

The end results: 36:38. That is 1 sec better that my previous best. OH YEAH!! So now I'm going to take the next two days off from running and relaxe before I run the race on Sat. I will how ever still be doing some sort of exercising in the mornings. Most likely turn on the T.V. and hope that FitTV has some exercising program on like Gilad or Cardio Blast or something.

Since this is my first race I don't know if that is a rule with all races or not. I just know that it is a rule for this race and the 5k that I'm running next week. You'll get there with the 3 in 30 just keep pushing and telling yourself that it and will be done.

hey there! how is the running going? I really like your profile pic! Your face looks very thin in that picture!!! Just thought id tell you!

here we are... another weekend... trucking along... trying to make our goals...

can we do it?

YES WE CAN.

haha well i am off to visit other journals! Wanted to stop and say hello... and also thank you for all of your encouragement. its because of my buddies on here like you, that i have been the least bit semi successful!

Thanks bud! keep up the good work!

Well my first official race is in the books.

I was able to complete the whole 4 miles without stopping. Let me tell you with all that I have gone through since Feb. When I crossed the start line I had a serious rush of emotions. Then again after I crossed the finish line. The best part of the whole race was the fact that I when I crossed the finish line the clock read 34:50. That was almost 2 min. faster than my practice runs. WHOO WHOO.... Now for the confusion part. I checked my finish time and finish place online once it was posted and there are two different times listed. The first was the time I seen on the clock as I finished the race which again was 34:50, then on the web site I also had what was called a net time of 34:13. The only thing I could figure was that the 34:50 time was from the gun to when I crossed the finished and since I was about a block back at the start I actually lost :37 just getting to the start line where my net time started.

So my question is; Is what I tried to explain correct? If so, just what is my official time, the 34:50 or the 34:13?

Anyways, it was definitely a new experience.

I do have to admit one thing. I wish I had something of some support at the race. I was really hoping to get some pictures to post. What I mean is that yet again my wife showed her true colors of just how supportive she is of me any my life change. This morning when I got up to get ready to go she informed that she didn't want to go because she was fighting a headache that she has had for 2 days. And it just happen that by the time I got home the headache was gone and everything was hunky dory. I seen that coming the day I told her that I signed up for the race.

Sorry for the ranting.

Hey guess what I ran a 4 mile race in 34:13 or 34:50 one of the two.

GREAT JOB - that is an AWESOME TIME!!!!!!! I am definitely jealous :)

Your official time would be 34:13; most chips start counting your time when you cross the start line and end when you cross the finish line. That accounts for any lag between the start of the race and when you actually cross the start line.

My last race was a minute and a half lag time, so my times were VERY different.

I'm sorry that your wife wasn't there to support you... that is a shame. You have achieved something that is fantastic and you deserved to have her there at the finish line. I hope she comes to her senses!

Well the OFFICIAL results came out in the news paper today.

My:
official time: 34:50
Overall place: 871 out of 2818
Men 40-44 Division place: 52 out of 108
Gender place: 664 our of 1477

Even thou my official time was 34:50, to me and the time chip thingy that registered my time from the start line to the finish line I'm going to say my time was 34:13.

Starting tomorrow I will be getting ready for the 5k this Sat.

Wish me luck...

Way to go GGH!!! 34:13 is an amazing time!! You're going to kick ass this Saturday. Oh, and your pics look great. You can really see the change in your neck in the second one. :)

So we had a Lunch-n-Learn today at work and on the menu today was: chinese.

So after I ate my lunch I opened my fortune cookie. Now comes the good part, here is what it said.

"No obstacles will stand in the way of your success this month"

HHHMMM???

Now is that a motivator out of nowhere or not?

Kinda ironic considering the circumstances.
