Gotta get thin!

I'm new here, but I've always wanted to keep a real journal about my weight loss, but I'm too embarrassed to share it with people who I know in real life!

I was never concerned with my weight, until I turned 20. All through high school I was a 5'1" 118ish girl in size 2 or 3 pants.

I started working in the fast food industry when I was 16. I worked in pizza, then I worked in Mexican food, then I was back to pizza, then traditional burgers and fries. I would eat bad because of the long hours and stress of it all.

When I was 18, I made a life-change and became Vegan. This wasn't for weight loss reasons, or really even for health reasons. I did it because I wanted to save the animals and I didn't want them to go through the suffering and the horrible lives they were living.

Two years later, I made a decision that would change my life forever. I decided to spend six months in a foreign country. I was offered a place to stay by some friends I knew only through the internet. When I was 20 years old, I took a 15 hour flight to a place I had never been with lots of people I had never met. Initially, things were good. Everything was different and exciting.

After two months, I had become a lazy, depressed, and a big fat pig! I realized what was happening, and hated what I was seeing in the mirror and started dieting. For a little over a month, I cut calories like crazy, and walked a ridiculous amount (sometimes more than 20 miles) per day. I was eating less than 800 calories a day and all I thought about was food. I had decided I wanted to be thin, but I went about it in all the wrong ways.

Of course, that extreme diet didn't last very long. After about 6 weeks (and 15 or so pounds gone), I had personal issues with the people I was living with. I moved to a new house and became more depressed than ever before. I would sit at home and watch tv, all day, every day. I had started drinking (I never had a drink in my life before that). Somehow in the last three months I lived there, I gained 30+ pounds. I was up to 152, at 5'2" and always the size 2 girl in high school, this wasn't acceptable.

When I moved back home, I quickly changed everything. I started working out at least 2-3 hours per day (which included some sports, running, swimming, yoga and weight training). Within 70 days, I was back down to 120.

I was able to stay around 120-125 for a few years. I stopped going to college, move to another state to be with my boyfriend (now husband). I started gaining a little, but it didn't really bother me. I got the most bothered by it when I weighed in a few months ago and I was above 130.

Now I'm back on the dieting rollercoaster. I've gotten down to 120 in a little over a month, but I'm having a hard time passing that. I'd really like to get down to 110 and fit into a size 3 comfortably again. I eat around 1200 calories a day. I'm not hungry often. I excersize, but not excessivly. I blame most of my plateau on my crappy sit at a desk all day job.

I'm not happy with the weight I am. I want to look better. I want to be thinner. I think I have some self esteem issues. Blah. That's all.

1. What is your current height and weight? 5'2 / 121 lbs

2. If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be? 107 lbs

3. At what weight would you like to be at four months from now? 107 lb

4. Why do you want to lose weight? To have an awesome body and feel good in whatever I wear!

5. Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or reunion? If so, when is that event? No specific event.

6. What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals? Taco Bell and Cheese, too lazy for the gym!

7. Why do you think that you now have a weight problem? I am a healthy BMI but sometimes I am too lazy

8. What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight? A NEW JOB!

9. Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight? Yes. I lost 30 pounds in January - March of 2006 by taking exercise classes in college: racquetball, swimming, running, weight training, yoga

10. Why do you believe that you did not lose weight or you gained the weight back? I gained it back since I got a desk job in July of last year and didn't do anything to counter it.

11. What, if anything, has not worked for you in the past in helping you to lose weight? When I try to lose weight, I do.

12. Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time? I do. I don't want to anymore because I become obsessive.

17. If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different? My body will never be exactly the way I want it. My waist would be small, my arms would be thin and toned, my pouch would be non existent, my legs wouldn't rub together anymore. I would go shopping!

18. Do you eat when you are not hungry? No. I'm just always hungry.

19. Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)? Sometimes I make excuses "It's my birthday, I can eat whatever I want!" - bad idea.

Where did you learn to poll dance? I would love to try it but have a feeling I would be awful at it!

Am I trying too hard?

I've been really sad today. I mean, what if I'm really not meant to be thin? What if this is how I'm supposed to look?

I'm not happy with my body. I want to cry...

I need help.

Dieting has taken such a huge toll on me and my relationship. I promised my husband I would stop being crazy...

Stop weighing myself everyday.

Stop letting my weight put me in a bad mood.

Stop not eating enough.

I want to be happy.

I want to give him everything he deserves.

I'm terrified I will gain back all the weight I have lost, plus some.

What can I do? I don't want to ruin our lives.

the not eating enough never works...i tried to constrict my calorie intake and it never worked.

there is this thing somewhere, it looks like a dartboard that has 12 foods you should always eat they say as long as you eat these foods you dont have to count calories..its from mens health, i stuck to it for about 8 months, and with exercise i went from 345 to 225. I dunno if it was the food or not, but something worked.

as for letting your weight put you in a bad mood, the way i look at is this way... every morning when i wake up to go run, i look in the mirror and i wave bye to all the weight that will be going on a permanent vacation. I know that soon enough, ill be where i want to be.

its weird, after sticking to your diet for awhile, you start to just eat that way naturally, i stopped drinking soda in 06, and while i messed around and ate bad, i never drank soda, its just one of those things you figure out that you can live without, and its easy.

yeah weighing yourself everyday wont do you any good. its best to do it once a week or longer at the same exact time.

all i can say is, keep up with this thing for support and motivation, its good to record everything you do and eat, you dont have to do it on here, you can keep a personal journal. recording everything you do will help you stay on track.

the first link is those 12 foods i was telling you about, it works, always feel full but not guilty

the second is a like a spreadsheet that you can plug all the foods you eat in one day and it will show your total calories, fat, carbs, protein, and so on.
its pretty nifty, its good to make sure you keep in the same range of calories and stuff everyday

anywho, good luck

My biggest problem is I have become obsessed with it. I'm not overweight. My BMI is 22.3, I want to get down to a BMI of 20. I know both are healthy weights, I'm not sure which is healthy for me. I'm a bit flabby right now.

I obsess over the numbers. All I think about throughout the day is the numbers going in and the numbers going out. I dream about calories. I've been doing this for 40 days.

It's not long, but it's long enough to have made a huge impact on my life. I can not make my husband happy anymore.

Part of me wants to track everything I eat (I currently do), but part of me wants to stop because I realize I have let it take over my life.

I don't know what to do. I want to eat healthy and still lose weight, but I feel like it's not good for me. I really need help.

Great, thank you for that! I've already got a program I use to plug the food I eat into. It's fitwatch.com (pretty much the same thing, different website, I know there's hundreds on the web). I'm checking out the Power 12 right now. Thanks a lot!

Yes, I realize that.

I feel like if I don't weigh myself everyday, I have no accountability. Even when I do everything "right" (eat only healthy foods and good portion sizes not to exceed 1300 calories a day and exercise) and still gain weight (which I have every day this week), I let it bring me down.

I get cranky and I treat the people around me like crap. It's really not fair to my husband. I know that.

I want to be able to still lose weight, but also keep my life and my moods good.

I hope I'm on the right track. Today was the first day in a long time where I looked in the mirror and I was happy.

I promised myself last night that I would not get on the scale this morning. I did though (damn me for breaking promises). I gained, of course. I don't understand why.

that increase can be anything, from fluid retention etc.

you should do it at night before you go to sleep, and only do it at that same time if you feel you must..

it doesnt happen overnight tho, just so ya know

Why should I do it right before I go to sleep instead of when I wake up? Is there a scientific reason? I have never weighed myself at night. I've always been under the impression that I weigh a lot more in the evening than I do in the morning, and I can't deal with that.

My biggest problem is for the first month or so of my weight loss, I lost right around .2 pounds every day, which averaged a little over a pound (sometimes a bit more) per week. For the past week, I have done nothing but gain and I have no explanation for it.

I know my weight can really fluctuate with a woman's cycle, so I use that as an excuse during certain times of the month, but right now isn't one of those times. Maybe I'm just confused!

i always do it at night, just an idea ha.

all i can say is stick with it, sometimes the drops are huge and sometimes they are small, you might have to vary your routine, its good to change what you do every couple of weeks or so, keep your body guessing

Yes! Exactly that!

I know I've really gotten into routine as far as diet and exercise go, which is maybe why I have hit a plateau.

I switched from an oatmeal breakfast to a hard boiled egg breakfast today. You seem very knowledgeable...Is that a good idea?

I used to eat 1/3 cup of quick oatmeal with a little brown sugar and blueberries for breakfast and now I'm eating two hard boiled eggs. Maybe that's not enough for breakfast?

I tend to eat Boca burgers for almost every other meal of my life. Hah. :(

yeah that calorie counting thing is bad for breakfast..

what i do is, if its bad oh well, i go run at 6 am, i dont eat breakfast till im done, then its usually a cup or cup and a half of oatmeal (just plain), or ill eat some kashi go lean (2 cups with skim milk)

i make sure when I eat breakfast its off the hook

I've gotten used to eating pretty small breakfasts. I pack a breakfast, and get to work at 8 and eat it at 9...and by lunch I'm very hungry.

We'll see. Maybe I'm stupid for thinking that eating eggs instead of oatmeal will change my weight loss...

egg whites are good, but you should throw some wheat toast and some cottage cheese or something in there as well

Haha, that sounds gross to me!

What is the difference between egg whites and the yolks?

I know the yolk has more fat and probably saturated fat, but what about proteins?

I was vegan for more than 5 years and just recently went back to eating eggs and dairy and am finding I know nothing about them!
