Google ads...

just wondering... if this website is all about cutting through the BS to learn how to live a healthy life, why do we have to stare at ads that promise ways to lose 9 pounds of fat every 11 days?

I mean, I know everyones gotta pay the bills and all, but it just doesn't seem right to me... I'd rather see relevant ads that actually promote a service that is slightly legit, but then again, I suppose 99% of the web ads, particularly pertaining to fitness, are nothing but BS anyways.

Just wondering....

As someone who has run Google ads on my sites before I can tell you that it's VERY difficult to control the content. You can keyword it to make it content specific, but stopping particular kinds of ads is practically impossible. And I would think it would be even harder with weight loss ads when new companies and programs are popping up daily.

It would be nice if they could be removed and only healthy programs could be allowed on, but managing advertising takes a LOT of time and money ...

I dunno ... I just ignore them. :)

If you're using firefox, just install the add-on Adblock Plus. It will be the end of Ads. for good. :D
I didn't even know there were Ads in here.

I just did install Addblock plus. Apparently it's there and working, but I have just as many as adds as before.....:(

Edit: It works! Nice!! Just needed a few restarts before it kicked in properly....:)

Thanks for the tip on the adblocker. i may try that. However, my point for this post was not that I don't like ads. They actually don't bother me personally at all. I was really just thinking in terms of someone new coming to this site desparate to lose weight as fast as possible, making a post and being told one thing, and then looking down at the bottom of the page and finding an add promising miracle results. I just think it would give people the wrong idea. I know its ultimately up to the individual to figure out what works best for them, but it just seems, idk, wrong for the same site that is all about helping people get and stay healthy is supporting ads for lies/scams.

well, the forum is free. it costs nothing to join and be exposed to help. I think if the worst thing we have to deal with is the ads, we've got it pretty good.
