Going for it!

Snezy - thanks for stopping by and offering support.

CB - as always - appreciate you support. Funny thing about diet soda - I actually gave that up a year or two ago. I don't like the diet sweeteners - and think they cannot be good for you. I have successfully ruled out a number of processed foods/beverages using the same logic. What I don't understand is why I cannot apply that logic to everything I put in my mouth. That logic is partly the reason I think I could do well with a raw or natural/whole foods diet (not in the sense of dieting - just overall diet).

I know it has been a couple days since my last post - fear not - I'm not off the wagon - just don't have anything interesting to report. I have been eating basically the same foods each day - protein shake, yogurt, 6" veggie sub with some pita chips or pita crackers, fruit, string cheese, then mixing up dinner getting in some additional veggies - chicken makes it in a 2 - 3 times per week. Oh yeah - I think my water/tea (with minimal caffiene) intake is back on track - approx 90 ounces a day.

Did a 5k walk with a friend this morning - will do another tomorrow - I get running in on my own during the week. Trying to convince hubby to go to the pool with me for a swim later today.

That is nice to hear Jennifer. I didn't think you would fall off the wagon but I just wanted to make sure-lol. I don't drink a lot of diet soda either- water is my drink of choice but if I do feel like a soda I have a diet one. Don't want to drink all that sugar. Nice job on everything else. Keep fighting the fight!

Up to over 90 oz of water daily now - woohoo.

Forced myself to get on the treadmill after 8 last night (it was sooooo flippin hot here - wanted to wait for the sun to go down and not beat into my exercise room). I wanted to quit after 2 min, 3 min, 5 min - eventually made it to 13 min - then did a run/walk for the remaining time - total of 3.1 miles in 48 min. I am proud of myself for finishing what I wanted to do. I did pay the price though....If it is hot and/or I really exert myself during a workout, I get a raging headache if not immediately after, by the next morning....ugh...I'm tired of that.

Was looking for another excuse to get out of my workout tonight because it is hot again....but after visiting a few diaries, I am once again inspired to get my workout in and I know I will be proud after. THANKS TO EVERYONE ON THE WLF.

Hi Jennifer,

Keep going, you are doing great. Can you set up a fan near your treadmill? That may help a little. I guess you could set it up in your shower and then turn the cold water on-LOL. Make sure you are drinking enough and watch your electrolytes when it is that hot. You may want to drink some gatorade while you are runnng on the treadmill. If you get a bad headache from exercising in the heat your electrolytes may be out of whack from the sweating. They say to drink cold water instead of warm or room temperature water too.I hope that helps. Keep up the good work- you are doing FANTASTIC!

Short post today - A bit over 15 miles for the week.....not quite what I was aiming for....but I'll be off to a good start tomorrow for the next week tally.

Happy Tuesday (almost Wed) - So far only 7 miles for the week....but I did get my behind kicked by the trainer yesterday. I really need to make sure I keep up the monthly appointment now and keep up on the 3 x per week with weights.

5k coming up on July 4th - looking forward to it.

Hey Jennifer!!! :waving:

That is so amazing that you can run on a treadmill!! I really really dislike treadmills, buttttt...what can we do sometimes, right? Good for you!!!

Also, 15 miles for the week, is Fantastic!! I'm so happy for you! :D!

Hi Jennifer,

You are going to do great on the 5K. Go Jennifer Go!! What do you mean ONLY 7 miles for the week?? This is only Wednesday you know-lol? Remember every mile is a victory. That is how I look at my running. You are doing FANTASTIC!! Keep up the good work!! Keep fighting the fight!!

Hi Alta - thanks for popping by. :)

CB - finished the 5k today - not sure of the official time yet - but I did not do as well as the one in March. I'm ok with that - different course and it was much much much hotter - and loads more people. Have I mentioned that I hate crowds? Wanted to utter - get outta fatties way...have to keep up the momentum....lol I did pace myself well enough that I did not get a heat related headache - I'll take that as a big win!

So - we went camping Fri and Sat at a local regional park - had planned to do some hiking - but it was too hot. Ended up bringing our bikes down and went for a really nice ride. To my surprise, I had no issues with my teeth/gums (usually have problems with breathing through my mouth and drying out my gums causing lots of pain). Problem identified - I push myself too hard. I actually had to slow my pace to hubby and B-I-L - voila - no issues - felt great. Big dummies that we are - none of us had helmets on - and really should have. We were on a very rocky trail and would have had some injuries if there would have been any falls. Going to dig out my helmet and see how it fits. If I don't like it, I'm just going to go to the local bike shop and have them fit me. Felt fantastic to be like a kid again - dirt and mud all over. I even braved the campground showers (anyone that knows me would fall over hearing that - I can be a bit of a snob about public facilities!)

Eating while camping was less than stellar - or even less than anything resembling a decent diet! Hmmmm....Grilled cheese (Onion bun toasted on the grill and then 2 slices of cheddar cheese melted on top) - Not too killer - but had 2 of them and virtually no nutritional balance. Loads of chips, soda (and water - yay for the water). Made cinnamon rolls in a cardboard box oven (made with my niece as a project to keep her occupied for all of 10 min) - they were excellent. Hmmm...burnt bacon. Baked potato with cheese, sour cream, and olives.....oh and let's not forget the smores (although did stick to only 1 night - but had 3).

I was craving real food by yesterday! I'm not a fan of hamburgers (don't eat hot dogs) - so did not have any real protein this weekend as others did. I stopped at a local BBQ restaurant and picked up a BBQ chicken breast salad - dressing an BBQ sauce on the side. OMG what a difference real food made - felt human again. Getting fruits and veggies back in the diet today - yay. I think we might go camping again in the fall and I am definitely going to pack very different food!

Now off to think about dinner and meal planning for the week.

What a great weekend! Congrats on the 5km - just being able to do these is a real achievement. Once you've been running for a while you go - oh yeah 5km, I can just run that, but remember what it was like when we all started...and couldn't run 5m!!!

Biking sounds great fun and at least the calories burned balanced out some of the eating!!

Great job on the 5K!! Don't worry about the time- just be happy you finished and you ran in all that heat. I find running in the heat the worst. I know what you mean by crowds. My 10 run I ran in March-there was about 400 people running down one little foot path-lol. My 1/2 marathon has 1000s running in it. It is a big deal as it is a qualifier for the Boston Marathon. I am looking forward to the race just not all the people-lol.

I love camping. Haven't had a chance to go in the last couple of years but there is nothing better than Bailey's and coffee by the fire-LOL. My youngest has been bugging me to take him camping so hopefully this is the year.

I am so proud of how far you have come. Don't worry about the stumbling blocks ( cinnamon buns-lol). You will hit your goal before you know it!! Congrats again on the 5K!!

Thanks for the kind words jjjay & CB - lifted my spirits a bit more. :)

Checked out my time - officially 44:28 - my race in March was 41:50.....I'll chalk it up to heat and not having my music. But I did finish - and I did run most of it.

I think I am going to sign up for another one at the end of August - it is at a local waterpark and part of the race goes through the lazy river - you get wet up to your waist/chest. I don't know - it just sounds fun.

I might try running in my five fingers - they would be nice to have in the water portion of the run (not a fan of getting my shoes and socks soaked.

Hi Jennifer,

Great time on the 5K. The heat can take a lot of you and the energy you have for the race. I am finding that I hate running when it is hot out. I would rather run in the pouring rain-lol. Good for you for signing up for another one. The race sounds like a lot of fun. There is nothing like running through a lazy river to break up the monotony-lol. Keep fighting the fight!

Wow - this month has just flown by - have not even had a chance to check in here. I can't recall anything prior to last week - I spent the last week in South Florida for work - big project (excited) - but my head is spinning - and not sure if I came down with a cold or an allergy attack turned bad (have never had allergies).

I felt fine all last week, but my nose was stuffy and I started losing my voice - then the dry coughing - I have had absolutely no voice since Friday. I'm thinking it could also be the stress of leaving a particular weather in Southern California and entering a different climate in South Florida and sleeping with the AC on. Woke up Saturday (at home) only to find that I had 30+ mosquito bites (have never had to deal with that before either). Feeling crappy with the stuffy nose and dry coughing fits.

No exercise in the past couple weeks (really long days at work) - and will likely have to wait until I can fully breathe without coughing. Have not weighed myself in what seems like an eternity - may have to get a new scale - took a wrong step in the bathroom - straight on the floor scale at the readout area....at first glance seems to be broken.....ugh.

Enough beechin and moaning from me...
