Goal: To lose 20 lbs in 10 weeks

Hi!

I weigh 229 as of today and my goal is to lose twenty pounds in ten weeks. That will get me to 209 and then I can reevaluate on the goal to get to 190 which is my preferred weight that I was last at in 2014.

I was up to 248 on Feb. 5th of this year and said enough and started to exercise and diet. I lost 20 in like 8 weeks and than flattened out as I stopped exercising and started to eat like crap after having to move apartments twice in a few weeks and two deaths in my family.

My challenge is that I have a torn shoulder and can't lift weights, swim and play golf which are my favorites. I also have a bad knee so Im very limited in what I can do. This leaves me with walking, hiking and biking which I all enjoy.

I will:

Ride my bike twice a week for at least 20 miles weekly total
Walk/Hike four days a week for at least 15 miles weekly total

I have cut out all soda, fast food, junk food. I also have a massive milk and Gatorade addiction and will be cutting both entirely out of my diet. I dont drink coffee, so it looks like I will only be drinking water and smoothies. I will give myself two beers a week as I have no choice as I work on a project where I have to visit a craft brewery at least once a week.

Last year I was at 240 at the beginning of the year and got to 195ish while posting on another forum, but the second part of the year I got depressed and skyrocketed back up. So looking to avoid that by making solid gains by great choices and to form a foundation that is very healthy so I dont go yo-yo back as its really taking a toll on my health.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum, Weightlossfish! I think you´ve put your goals pretty high, but you know what you´re capable of so I say best of luck to you :)

Thanks Maria!

I think I set it that high as Ive done it before, but to be honest its getting really hard as I get older (44 next week). Im really good at hitting written goals and the worse that can happen is I fall short and reap the gains Im sure to get.

Im 2 days milk and sugar free and I can feel the difference. Im drinking tons of water and eating way less. I only walked a mile today as I have a ton of work related tasks to clear, but prepping for my first bike ride in like 2 months tomorrow. I live in Seattle where it is so hilly so I have to take the correct route or I enter hills from hell and a whole lot of FMLs.

Oh mate, I feel you with the Gatorade and milk addiction!

At one point in my life, I drank 1 liter of milk just as evening snack... and it did me no good, because we are not supposed to drink milk, and let alone that much at once.

In the Netherlands we don't have gatorade, but we have Aquarius and something much worse, AA (after activity) it is pure sugar with added flavors.

I changed the milk for soy drink (it feels much better for me) and all kind of soda and things for carbonated water, then I put a lemon on it, and it tastes delicious.

Im glad Im not the only milk addict. Not sure what a liter is, but over here I go through about 3/4s of a gallon without even noticing it. The next day I go for the cartoon and say OMG, what have I done. Even worse when there are cookies around.

I was then drinking 32 - 64 ounces of Gatorade cause its a great deal at store for 79 cents and so enticing. I always justified that since I was exercising and not drinking soda it was all ok.

The soy drink sounds good, will check it out.

So Google says 1 liter is 33 ounces... at once, with nesquick.... lots of sugar and very bad for the intestines.

I did some sport and nutrition workshops when I began giving spinning lessons, and I tell you, for a normal daily workout, if you eat right you don't need any kind of sportdrinks, even worse are those who claims to be full of minerals and vitamins, but they are just sugar with a bit of minerals.

In case of you doing an intensive workout, like a long endurance section, you might need some kind of special drink to keep the electrolytes in balance and you might even have some kind of sugar supply to give you a kick, but as I said, I only needed those things when biking for a long time, like one time I did a 90 miles tour, and I had some special drink and a apple fructose (fruit sugar) gel with me.

Yah I was using the fact that I was doing simple exercise and needed the sport drink, but no way. Maybe if I get some high intensity workout ins but that has not been the case. So just going to focus on water and cut all that crap out!

Day one went well, looking forward to tackling day two! One day at a time for sure :).

Hi weightlossfish (WLF) & a big, belated welcome to the forum! I have one Gatorade a week(make up my own with powder), when I play golf, but I know it's bad for me. It sounds like you have a good plan. Nutrition is the most important thing. You can do this :)

Thanks Cate! Please enjoy both the round of golf and that weekly Gatorade!! I dream of playing golf but is a big no go until my arm is fixed. Strangely I can still kick a soccer ball and have really gotten into FootGolf which at least can keep me on the course.

Hit them long and straight Cate!!!!

Day two went very well. I got a few miles in walking and nailed the diet part. Today Im taking my first bike ride, wish me luck!!

How was the biking?

Hi Maria! It went really well. I only got 6 miles in, but it was a new route and was way more hilly than I thought it would be. I can see where I can get my ten miles in on this route and use it as a great training ride. The problem with Seattle is its soooo hilly and need to be careful on what way u go.

Im doing really well with diet, but need to get to store tomorrow to stock up for sure. That is where I get in trouble when I put off shopping and then go out a lot.

Not binging on milk and Gatorade has been wonderful. I feel a little lighter and just pound water all day long and my hunger is not that big. Im going to a party today with a huge spread and will see how I act, but got three miles of walking in already so been a good day 4 :).

The party was a trap and all there was were brats and hotdogs. I was so hungry and had two brats and a Sprite. Im taking it as my cheat day for the week. I could of had like 5 of those things but showed some restraint.

The six miles worked out well and looking foward to getting back on bike but may have to wait till next week. It turns out you need a helmet by law in my city and didnt know. I need to go buy one but have to work all weekend so will focus on walking on my breaks.

I went to the store today to stock up. This is my most important task as when my house is bare of food I go crazy eating out.

Brat = bratwurst? I got confused and thought about an ambush of kids for a while until I saw you ate two :p Well done not having more than you did even though you were hungry and there were no decent alternatives.
