Yes and no. If your diet is in check, then PWO becomes semi-important in the long run. However, most trainees concentrate on getting the proper nutrients PWO but the rest of their diet sucks.

What's really important is the calories throughout the day. If I get enough calories in to build or hypocaloric to cut then I am so far closer to my goals then if I just get in my PWO and I have no breakfast and the rest of my meals suck.

Insulin sensitivity has become a pretty boring topic for me as of late but for fyi...the body is most primed to receive insulin spikes in the morning and PWO.

But in the end we're talking about a 24 hour net protein balance.
 
It also depends on body type too so I understand. Ectos benefit more than endos/mesos with immediate post workout replenishing.
