And metabolisms are rarely a set thing--they can be lowered/highered depending on how much exercise a person does. I'm sure I've done some damage to my metabolism over the years through fad dieting but I'm now quite happy to eat realistically and exercise everyday to try to level-off. And if you feel you might have gained [water weight] step far, far away from the scale!!
