Gigi's weight loss diary

Hi everyone! My name is Gigi, and I'm a 21 year old college student. So... after a few weeks of creeping on this forum, I've finally decided to create my own weight loss diary. I'm in my senior year of college (this is my last semester) and my goal is to be 125 lb by the time I graduate in May. I've packed on quite a few pounds since Freshman year!

I've been writing down every thing I eat since January 1st and I have been going to the gym about 4 times each week. On January 1st, I weighed 155 lbs and the last time I weighed myself (Jan 17th) I weighed 149. I think most of that 6-lb weight loss was due to getting my wisdom teeth removed though.. haha.

I've never been able stay on a diet for very long, but this time, I'm really motivated! My weakness is drinking. I'm not an alcoholic or anything, but I find myself drinking socially several times a week and I realize I gain a lot of calories through this, so I am going to try to limit myself to drinking two nights per week. Hopefully I'll keep up with counting all my calories and going to the gym because I really need to lose this weight!

Today:
Breakfast: Coffee with 1 tbsp hazelnut creamer (10+45), 1 piece of toast(120), 1 slice of ham(30), 1/4 cup shredded cheese(45)
snack: 1 clementine(35)
Gym: ran 2 miles on the treadmill (-200), 30 minutes on crossramp (-350)
Lunch: cheez-its (130)
Snack: yogurt pretzels (100)
Dinner: 1 bag of popcorn (100), 1 slice of cheddar cheese (120)
Other: 3 bud lites (330), 3 rum & cokes (??)
Snack: 1 rice krispie treat (90)

Hi and welcome! Good luck with your weight loss journey. Check out the last post I just made in my journal. It's about the amount of alcohol I had been consuming and just how much of a negative effect is has had on my weight loss efforts. In addition to the calories, our livers also focus too much effort on breaking down the alcohol rather than burning fat. Something on those lines. I've read it before but can't remember all the exact details. Maybe you could look into it some more.

Welcome Gigi, and best of luck with your diet. You WILL be able to stay on your diet this time, I can tell. I will be checking on you. Don't let me down lol ;)

- Fruit punch with vodka
- Water with lemon

Hey Gigi, keep it up. Need to possibly balance your meals more. Add a few healthy snacks such as fresh fruit or veggies. Something to fill in the gaps between lunch and dinner, and dinner to sleep. I know resist drinking can be tough especially in the college setting.. but at least your trying to limit. Not only does all that liquor contain high amounts of sugars, slowing metabolism, and has a direct effect on your kidneys and liver, also factor in the chaser, and what you might eat afterwards. There was a study done that majority of our calories come from the foods we eat after were wasted lol.

Anyways, your doing good. You've made some decisions to improve and thats great! Drink up your water, especially on days you know your going to be drinking, add in a few snacks here and there to get your 5-6 snack/meals for the day to get your metabolism moving along throughout the day.. Get to the gym, work off a good sweat, or stay at your place and do a cardio routine. Anything is better than nothing. Keep it up, don't get discouraged, you'll reach your goal... Just ask yourself how bad do you want it?

I just made a 6-snack/meal outline for what I'm going to eat tomorrow, 1200 calories altogether, and full of veggies, fruits & proteins! :) Thanks for the advice!!

Hey girl, don't take this the wrong way because I just want to help you but you have to eat a little more! ;) I applaud you for your willpower because I could never get by more than a day eating that little. Add some solid foods that will net some more calories. I'm thinking of things like oatmeal and/or egg whites for breakfast, sandwhiches for lunch (wheat bread, turkey or chicken, maybe some lettuce and tomatoes?), fish for dinner or maybe chicken breast or other lean meats. You get the idea. Just try to avoid things that are too similar to fast food items which will be loaded with mayo and usually fried. You are doing good but if you don't eat just a little bit more you could starve yourself and end up defeating yourself too. I think a girl here who eats very good and started out close to your current weight is M_Marie. Her diary is title Here I Am - Rock You Like a Hurricane. Take a look at how she eats. She eats light but there's enough there where she doesn't go hungry. Yet the calories are low enough to where she continually lost weight for months and months.

Congrats on deciding to make some changes! I gained a lot of weight in college. It's hard to not eat out all the time and drink too much. I gotta second what everyone here is saying, getting more protein and natural foods will not only help you to be healthier, but to feel fuller. That way, cutting your calories becomes easy.

I buy those bags of frozen veggies and add a cup of them to pretty much every dinner. A whole cup of them is only 90 calories. I probably eat more food now than I used to, volume wise. It seems like I'm always eating! :) And it seems like I lose more weight by eating 2000+ calories than when I tried to cut it down to 1600/day and basically starve myself at 300 lb. Best of luck!

It's snowing so much here in Connecticut! I don't even know why I bother doing my hair anymore since it's always soaked by the time I get to class. Snow/rain makes me not want to go to the gym... Poooo. :(

Bad eating day... and I didn't go to the gym because I got called into work.

Breakfast- 1 banana (120)
AM snack- 2 sugar free jellos (10 each)
Lunch- potato (250) + 1tbsp oil (120) onion (25)+ garlic (10) + egg (70) + cheese (50)
PM snack- grande starbucks iced coffee.. black with 3 splendas (20)
Dinner - another grande starbucks iced coffee, black with 2 splendas (20) + 2 servings gummy bears (300)
Snack- popcorn (100)

That's actually not much gigi. It sums up to 1100 calories. But the suprising part is that the gummy bears summed up to one quarter of your day's food :)

Don't be too hard on your self. You are gonna rock today
