Getting Serious

Hey everyone.
I can't remember when I last posted in here, and a lot has happened in my life. I am now a happy mummy to a beautiful little girl called Stella who is 8 months old. She is awesome and lots of fun. My weight has fluctuated between 90kilos and about 110kilos (higher at the end of my pregnancy of course) over the last three years. I've lost about 7 kilos in the last 5 months and I'm about 100kilos as of today, and now I'm ready to get serious and work on getting to goal. My goal is around 76kilos so about 25 kilos to go. I'm decided on a long slow process, I see this is for life, and I want to have the best chance of losing and keeping the fat off.
I've been working on my fitness a lot, because I got really unfit during my last pregnancy. And I'm at the point now where I need to get serious about the food! My goal is to minimise junk and sweet food, and focus on good healthy food which I make at home.
I remember quite a few of you from last time I was here, and I'm happy to see that this awesome community still exists. I've been lurking a bit over the last few weeks. But I'm ready to jump in and get rid of my layers!
First question for you smart peoples, does anyone have the aria scales? I'm thinking of getting them, are they any good?

Yay I'm so happy to be back!

OMG Congratulations and welcome back :D I loved taking care of my son at that age although it was so much work lol.

Thank you thank you.. :) Hi Xenon and sunflower.

Well yesterday went a bit haywire as far as food goes, at least I had been for a jog/walk before work.
Today I am determined to have a 'clean' eating day. It is always a bit hard with shift work and also juggling home commitments, but I have had a good brekkie, and I have some eggs to cook for lunch. There isn't much in the way of veges today, so I'll have to have a lot for dinner tonight. We are just coming in to summer down here, and we have quite a good vege garden, so there is no excuse not to eat lots of them.

Today's exercise will probably be either a walk with the dog, if I can get out, or I'll do some sprints up and down the drive, with body weight exercises in between.

Welcome back! I plan to try gardening next Spring. I have a truck now so my last excuse is gone. I love having fresh veggies.

Enjoy your exercise!

Welcome back :) I'm newer to the forum, but just wanted to wish you good luck :)
Congrats on your baby Stella - is she your first?

Hey Q and bluebean.
That is a difficult question for me bluebean (I might call you bb from now ok?), I had a beautiful daughter who died when she was 26 days old. She would have been three this month. So Stella is my second child, my lovely rainbow child. It is a difficult month for me remembering her and what might have been. I think of her all the time and every day, but always a bit more during November.

Anyway I am trying hard to feel my emotions and not just eat them, and I know that all the exercise really helps me mentally.
My food still wasn't great, but I think I squeaked in on the calories. I'd like to still be eating more 'clean' food. I just need to take a little extra time each day to pack enough food for while I'm at work. Because I'm still breastfeeding I get the full on hungries, and it's best if I snack all day, I'm just trying to make those snacks healthy!

Anyway today was ok tomorrow can be as good or a little better...softly softly!

Oh wow, I am so sorry to hear about your first child. I do apologize if my question bought up some hard feelings, I did not mean to pry. It must be so difficult during November, my thoughts will be with you :)
Stella is such a beautiful name, and I bet she is keeping you on your toes!

Well done on making healthier choices :) Sounds like you're taking the steps in the right direction to long term health.

BB is fine, or even Bean :p

Hey Mr vee...

No worries bean, I don't get to talk about Maria much, and I really need to so it is all good. Having my little miracle Stella has also helped with my grief.

So today was my last day on for this shift cycle, I now have two days off and then back to work on Friday. I'm often pretty exhausted by my last day on, and today was no different. I'm tired, and didn't manage any exercise, and didn't really well either. I start each day with good intentions but by the end of the day, I've somehow slipped back into overeatin, or eating the wrong kinds of food.

Oh well. I'll try again tomorrow...I am NOT giving up.

Shift work can take it's toll on our eating habits and sleeping patterns--Make sure you try and get a nap if baby goes down for one!!

Shift work is really tough I reckon. Luckily I am a good napper.

I have had a good couple of days. I have had good step counts, and I went to Bikram Yoga last night. I love hot yoga but it is hard to get there. I try to go on Thursday nights, whenever I am not working. Man I felt better for it this morning...more flexible etc. Some mornings my legs are so stiff I have trouble walking, but the yoga really helps.

I'm at work now, and I've made some yummy food to bring. I cut up some pineapple for a snack, and I made a salad with orchiette (pasta), broccoli and peas, w a yoghurt dressing. It looks so good I can't wait to eat it. Although I have to make sure I don't eat it too soon, otherwise being hungry in the evening at work when things are quiet can be dangerous. I wish we didn't have vending machines here!

Hey, thought I'd pop into your diary!

Congrats on your little one! They are a lot of work at every age I've come across (mine are 2 and soon to be 4 (at the end of January). Exhausting that's for sure! lol

I've had a few good eating days now. I made a great salad to take to work and I've had it three days in a row now. It has broccoli peas pasta yoghurt basil garlic etc. It is very tasty, and I hope it isn't too high in cals. I haven't actually calculated it, but I think is should be ok as a main meal. If I haven't lost any weight on Monday I think I'd better work out the cals though. As well as the salad I've been having a couple of boiled eggs and some pineapple for snacks. At home I've just been trying to cut out snacks, although I have some crackers w cheese if I'm hungry hungry. I 've really cut back on chocolate and sweet stuff for about 5 days now. I just need to keep up the momentum and stay consistent.

Yesterday I had a rest day, and didn't even do my usual rest day dog walk, poor dog :( so I need to get some activity in today. On Friday I went for a long walk and then did some backyard exercises...squats lunges and ab work. We have had some nice weather for a change so it's been good being outside.

My goal for today is to do measurements...blah

Hi Anna! I can relate to you so much you have no idea! Never heard of orecchiette before but it looks scrumptious even though it resembles the shape of red blood cells. I think i will try some with pesto.

Xenon - In Italian orechiette means little ears and the pasta was named as such to its resemblance to little ears!
