Wanna know something funny? The forum's been pretty quiet today (maybe because I'm just being such a slob and sitting on the couch all day pressing refresh as I do my writing haha), and when I saw that you had posted, I actually said OUT LOUD - "good girl". True story. :leaving: Haha spot the dork.

Even though you say you've been slack, your food and exercise is going really well! There will dEFINITELY be a photo tomorrow! WOOP!

OH THE RICE
the saffron. Yeah... I do use a fair bit, but it's probably cheaper than the cashews. So.. I don't know - a pinch? Of a reasonable size?

Yeah, all those spices go togeether really well. When I do the full shebang version, it's soemthing like this (apologies for no measurements... I just kinda know):

-Put the pinch of saffron in a tiny bowl with a little boiling water to get it started. Let it sit for a few min.
-Put the rice, water and quite a bit of salt (it'll taste really salty after) in the saucepan for the absorption method, and add the saffron.
- In a fry pan, toast the following spices: a broken cinnamon stick, 2 star anise, lots of fennel seeds, black cumin, normal cumin, black and yellow mustard seeds, 6 cloves and 6 squished cardamom pods. YUM!
- Toast some shredded coconut with currents, slivered almonds, chopped cashews and pistachios.
- Throw in a bit of palm sugar (or brown sugar), then stir everything else in. Adjust the sugar and salt as you think.

Make sure you either take out the cloves, or tell everyone not to eat them, cos if you chew on htem, they make your mouth go a bit numb! :)
 
The day I decided to de-slobbify myself
I've been so lazy recently.... Not been getting out and about much at all, so my next resolution is to go out somewhere interesting every other day. Theres so much to do in london for cheap (museums, gallerys, window shopping etc...), and I am sitting on my arse all the time. The days when I am not going out I will do at least two hours a day of decorating.

Yeah, it has been quiet over the last few days hasn't it! All this quietness makes me want to be be loud and shout too! I regularly talk to the computer (I always say "thank yoooou" out loud if someone writes something nice etc) so we can be dorks together :)

I will absolutely definitely be making that next week. I actually can't wait :)
 
THE DAY I GOT INTO THE 180'S!!!!

Yup, I lost 2.2 pounds, and I am now 189.6 pounds. Hooooooorah! Here are my starting and current pictures, I tried to keep my head the same size so you can see the difference in the rest of the size of me easily. I think the difference is a bit noticable. I can't wait to take more pics as I am losing weight, to track the progress of the incredible shrinking Ruthie :)

The first is at about 14 stone 10 (206lbs), the second at 13 stone 8 (189.6- don't wanna round it up to 190 as I;m chuffed about being out of the 190's haha).

You are looking SO fantastic! You can definitely tell around your waist especially - you must be so chuffed! And what I wouldn't give for legs like those... HAWT!

I usually wear the biggest most ugliest knickers ever to disguise my tum (tho they probably make me look preggers, at least they make my tummy look more firm), so it was quite hard for me to put up that second picture with me wearing a very tight top with it all hanging out. But, I thought that I need to take it so I can see my progress properly.

I am under calories today by a large amount, which makes a change :) So I am about to have some cashews and sultanas to top it up a bit. Not much exercise. I am hurting.

put only a dash of fish sauce in the dressing, and topped it up a bit with soy sauce. My mung beans had cabbage and carrot in the pack as well, and I added a couple of giant spring onions. It was really lovely and fresh and tasty, will definitely be having it again.

Congrats on breaking into the 80s. You must be thrilled.
How tall are you?

Do you find that eating a big breakfast helps you eat less the rest of the day? PS: When you eat porridge, what amount do you eat? Do you measure it?

I'm 5 foot 9 Carrie. I have 50 grams of porridge oats, with half whole milk and half water. Its a lot less than i was used to having, but if you grate a large apple in it before cooking it really bulks it up so it looks like more. And is yummy with cinnamon.

Why must people always bring confectionary items and apple bloody pies to my house? I ate one, a mr. kiplings one. I don't like them that much, only the ones of the homemade variety, but alone, in the computer room, with a box sitting behind me, I ate one. The middle bit tastes and looks like snot. I'm a bit angry with myself, for that 240 cals I could have actually had something that I could enjoy as much as possible with this sometimes bloody annoying food guilt. Oh well.... what's done is done. And it most certainly IS done. I blame not working out this morning. Not myself. Nonononono.
