Gatorade

I didn't put this under fat loss because I feal it has more to do with the gym. When i work out I usually buy water or bring water to the gym but I had some Gatorade last night and I noticed it has 42g of Sugar in it among a few other things. It seems fairly healthy from what I have heard about it and seems to do a good job in replenashing thirst and keeping you from becomeing dehidrated but I dont understand why there is such a high sugar content. Is it because of the energy it gives you or something? I was wondering if this is a good drink and if you can just have a few glasses of it a day and if thats good or mabey just one bottle when you go to the gym or when excactly is this a "good" drink?
Thnx in advance ! =)!!

A drink like gatorade is there to replace your electrolytes and give you energy for a workout. Sugar is the easiest-to-process/burn cabohydrate, so it's great for workouts. It's not the best thing for fat loss, since with fat loss, you want to be energy-deficient during a workout - whereas gatorade is more for athletes, making it so their body doesn't have to slowly break down fat and muscle for energy.

Well...i want to loose fat mainly so that i have more of a cut look along with lowering BF% but i want to be able to have energy while doing that i dont want to be dead in the gym and i thought that gatorade might be able to help that. Do you think that this drink "gatorade" will really effect fat lose? Will it take longer to loose the fat especiallly around my mid section the flab that i have there by drinking gatorade?

It will affect it some. Your body doesn't begin to burn fat during exercise until its runs out of its main stores of carbohydrates (e.g., in the gut). By replenishing these stores, the body doesn't have to resort to burning body fat for energy. Burning body fat for energy is a very slow process (that's why you feel more tired near the end of a cardio workout) and the body can't release it fast enough to meet the demands of what you're trying to do.

stay away from any carbs before a workout period. its best to workout empty, so all your body runs off of is fat stores. then when you get back, eat a high protein/low carb meal (tuna sandwich or somethin) DO NOT drink gatorate, drink water.

I don't agree with Turn71 you should always have somthing being digested IE 6 meals a day, this will keep your metabolism high which will go a long way in metabolizing fat. so if it's time to eat and afterward your going to workout then do so. if gatorade will effect your fat loss is all realitive, in the end do you have a calorie deficit while staying healthy, keeping your body in a fat burning mode?? staying away from sugars will help to this end so ya stay away from it.
trying to loose fat and gain muscle at the same time is like saying you want to speed over 100MPH but I don't want to go over 60MPH. I know you might be a little  but thats ok, just choose one or the other.

Well i'd love to choose one or the other Phaledax my problem is that I need to be able to loose fat and maintain muscle mass. Not only maintain but continue to gain. People tell me balance your carbohidrates your protiene intake matched with your weight and if you wanna burn say .. a pound of fat a week thein well say you take in 2000 cals just burn 2500 and within a week thats 1lbs since 3500 cals is 1 pound of fat. I'm very confused because i'm real new to this basically i want to be muscular and cut with a fairly low body percent. Not weight lifter competition BF% but you get my drift. I want washboard abs, solid shapely biceps and cut pectorals along with nice back/leg muscles. To do this i'm simply trying to eat real healthy .. not "dieting" because i know there is a big difference there. I just want to loose my tummy fat lower my bf% and continue to gain muscle mass. It is VERY confuseing to me haha but thnx for being conciderate of ones fealings on things and helping out to the best of your ability u have for sure been a big help. I'm still quite confused but i guess with time i'll figure it out o.0 hehe .....

this is my personal beliefs and what i do for myself and how i help others

have a pre workout meal, have water during the exercise and then have a post workout meal. burn the fat over the course of the day, dont concern yourself with burning fat during the workout. some have said concentrate on burning carbs or the most amount of calories during the exercise. why? because the more carbs you burn during, the more calories you burn after.

track your results, that is the only true measure of success. if you're not buring fat either up your energy output or decrease your calories.

:)

it is very possable to maintain muscle mass and loose fat, it is not possable to gain mucle mass and lose fat. puting it simply to gain muscle you "MUST" have a positive calorie intake (eat more food than you burn) to loose fat you "MUST" have a calorie deficit (eat less food than you burn) there is no real way around this, most people when they try to do both you will end up in limbo land (not gaining or looseing anything). with what your doing is a 500 calorie deficit which will give you fat loss. Eating healthy, keeping your body in a fat burning state will save your muscle, this is called (clean cutting) when you decide to gain muscle you will have to get more cals in you, if you do it healthy and keep your metabolism up you will not gain much fat this is called (clean bulking). I hope this is making more sence.

Mmm, but you can have a positive caloric intake from protein (4 Kcal / gram) which gets stored as muscle much more often than it gets stored as fat. I'm going to have to disagree with the premise that it's not possible to gain muscle mass and lose fat.

It is true though that separating weight loss and bulking is a more effective approach - but not necessarily the most sustainable.

+1

In my day I tryed just to get cut and bulky @ the same time, although my results weren't great, I definatly saw improvement in both categories.

ya thats true, I guess that was a little overboard, just being more direct otherwise he'll be stuck in limbo land or do it ineffectively, should of seen that can of worms coming.

All I know is this.. I have a couple of friends who go to the gym 3 days a week and do 1 day of cardio (jogging) per week. They eat fairly healthy but they dont look at all there calorie and protiene intake and all that stuff they just eat a decent ammount of everything. carbs.. protiene... and fats. They are both built like brick **** houses. I'm guessing they have around 11-12% body fat and they look very built. awsome bodies. They loose pudge and put on muscle and they dont fret over all mathematical calorie consumption and burn. They loose fat and gain muscle and thats what they do. I know that you can burn fat and gain muscle at the same time because I have deffinetly lost some fat around my mid section in the last 3 months of working out and tahts withought doing any cardio just going to the gym 3 days a week and i'v put on a suprizeing ammount of muscle. My arms for example whent from 13" in left 12" in right to 15 1/4" in left and 14" in right. My pecs are much more developed some back muscles coming in aswel as quads cafs and the like. So i'm living proof you can do that I was just curious about gatorade haha. But you all have been a really big help and what i have learned so far about lifting weights and working out is that there are alot of opinions out there. Some of theim you take with a grain of sault and others are correct. Sometimes both can be correct but in the end you have to find things out on your own and yes still listen to what others say but don't fret over every little fact you hear wich is excactly what i have been doing up until today, lol.
I <3 ya all your so awsome this forums simply amazing. Everyone gets along no one flames you for spelling or grammer theres amazing help on this forum with awsome facts and information. Thank you ALL! :D

I think we're just touchier about extremes. We do get posters who write a page-long post without a single period, no lie. Those I can't stand.

For weight loss, especially people who have a hard time losing weight, you gotta watch calories. When you're already fit, like your friends, it's not as big a deal.

For bodybuilders (those who would do a bulk/cut routine) they look VERY closely at all that stuff - because we're not talking 11%-12% bodyfat these people are trying to achieve, we're talking 3% - 5% bodyfat.

For the average, health-minded person though - mixing resistance training and a healthy diet routine is the best, most sustainable way to go.

Withought 1 period ? Thats pretty funny =P. Well iono like I totally agree with you I should totally watch my diet and stick with the gym I just hope that by me doing this cardio the other 4 days of the week its not burning my muscle off. I just want to be cut and muscular and im doing that by running/weight lifting and eating right. Run 4 days of week 5km and super set in the gym the other 3 days of the gym =D and ofcourse eat healthy! Although 2day I had like 4 popsicals each with I think 14g of sugar in thiem. I hope thats not SOOO bad I mean i have protiene shakes, carrots, green beans,potato,porkchop,chicken,steak,nectoriene,strawberries,mango,peaches.. and so i dont see the big deal about treating myself to a few popsicles a day. Its not like i'm mowing down the mcdonalds and potato chips and topping it off with some kit kat bars, heheh.

there are some ppl out there who can get great results with little effort. its just a matter of better genetics, we cant change that. these ppl are in the minority but they do exist. the majority of us have to bust our butts to make even the slightest gain.

Well... now that i think about it one of the two kids im talkin about ever since he was 11 or so he had pipes. I'm not even excagerateing :S

just a quickie, can you mix water and gatorade and get the same effect? I dont like drinking gatorade to much, so i was just wondering if i could power it down some with water. drinking pure gatorade makes me wanna..... blah! i just dont like it.
