This isn't entirely true. Maybe for the majority of Americans who attempt this diet it isn't healthy, but that's because they do it with total disregaurd for everything else. But every diet(or almost every diet)focused on losing weight, is built around this "low/no carb" idea. You need fat to make test, and you need protein to build/retain muscle, so what's left to cut out? When you "eat healthy" you pretty much cut out soda (sugar), candy (sugar), white bread (simple carbs), etc..Aquantis said:Atkins diet sure isn't healthy.
Mmmm, I wouldn't say that. Every fad diet, perhaps, but carbs are very important part of your diet, and in a healthy diet, actually make 50% - 60% of your daily caloric intake. Carbohydrates are your primary energy source, and the ONLY energy source for your brain. But every diet(or almost every diet)focused on losing weight, is built around this "low/no carb" idea.

It is true, however, that in America people get MORE carbs than they need. But then, ti's also true that they get more of everything than they need. In fact, and it may surprise you to hear, many nutritionists believe that there is far too much protein in the American diet as well. Needless to say, there's too much fat.
