gain weight/fat ?

Hi everybody...

I am new so welcome me :p

I have a question and I didn't know where to put it but to me it fits this forum so I will post it here...

So I am a new user of weight rooms and I started working out about a month ago.
I often hear people talking about weight gaining and stuff which is to me appealing (I weigh 142 lbs for 5'10") but the thing is that I don't want to gain fat when I gain weight, I don't want to see a belly getting big...
So my concern is how to gain weight but muscles only and is it possible anyway ?
Also about proteines: to me it's hard to concieve taking them without gaining some fat... what happend if for instance u take proteine but for some reason u don't work out for a while.. what happend to this proteines...
My concern is for exemple that I might not know the correct dose of proteine to take for the time/effort I put in my practise: if I take too much proteine I might not use them all in which case I am wondering what happend to them...

I am quite confused but the idea is to be esthetically nice and not gaining weight for the sake of gaining :)

I hope u guys understand and be able to bring some elements of info to a new guy in the field
Thanx a lot
Appreciate :)

Well novice, a lot depends on your genetic material. One guy can eat 200 gr protein a day and not gain nearly any fat at all, the other guy will mostly see his waist grow instead of his muscles... You're right that if you take too much protein it will store as fat, but if you take too few you won't make optimal gains... the trick is to eat at the right moments and the right quantities... if it looks like you're gaining too much fat even though your meals consist of mainly protein, try not to eat more than 25g of protein per meal; around 20, for about 5-6 meals a day. You'll still eat the 100-120g a day, but you won't eat excessive amounts in a short time so your body won't 'stock it as fat'. I would still eat a lot of extra protein right before and right after your workout though.

But, alas, if you aren't genetically 'lucky', you will have to live with the fact that apart from your muscles, your stomach will grow as well ;p Not anyone can have that perfect body you always see on television ;p

wow
Thanx a lot guys !! I wouldn't expect a so quick answer so fast...
To me to be honest I prefer being skinny (I mean I am not that much of a stick too ;) ) than fat...
Working out regularly, (like 1 hour-1.5 hour 6 times a week) do I need proteines still ?
I don't aim to be like vin diesel but when I go to the beach or so, I want to be a little bigger than I am with muscles that can be seen ...
not a miracle is it ?

following my last message (that I can't edit why ? )
I wanted to ask as well: what are the right time to eat ? before or after work out...
the thing is that usually I come from work at like 6 and I am hungry so I eat dinner and later on (at around 9 pm) I go for a work out (my residence has got a gym in the basemant :D )
and when I get back, I eat like a yogurt or something like that...

Well... have you read this link ? I'm sure it contains a lot of answers, both what training frequency / intensity, and what nutrition concerns... to try to answer your question shortly:

You really should try to eat a bit of protein every 2.5 hours... If you go to work, then take a protein shake with you for the morning & afternoon... check other topics to see which food is high in protein & low in fat/carbs (tuna, eggs, lean meat, other fish, and milk should be your basic protein sources).
edit: i knew i forgot one: chicken(breasts) ! ;)

Then before workout, you need some extra carbs; e.g. a banana an hour before workout. I also take a protein shake an hour or half an hour before workout, and I eat a complete protein-rich meal about half an hour after my workout... and some carbs to replenish my muscle's energy levels...

The details aren't that important for a beginner, but without watching your protein intake every day and training with a decent routine, making gains will be difficult and slow ;x

Browse the internet and this and other fora a bit, you'll find answers everywhere =)
