G8r80's training / dieting / cycling / log

It was nice working out again. I had to sit out 2 weeks for a leg infection combined with my shin splint being (hopefully) 100% healed, I am finally healthy after a few recent setbacks.

Today at gym:

bench press: 135#x6, 155#x6 shoulder rotator cuffs hurt like mofos.
dead lift: 225# x 6 x 4. Worked on form, but my back is still rounded like a cat.
Chinups: 6, 6, 4
Dumbbell bench press: 40#x10, 50# x 10, 60# x 3 x 10
Felt really weak, fat and out of shape after the layoff

:speechless: sorry too hear about your leg infection, I really do hope you have a full recovery and come back stronger than before. Take good care of yourself.

Thanks Buff and Dutchy. I'm fine now.

Today: 1 hour on stationary bike. HIIT: 1 minute hard (90% of MHR), 1 minute rest (heart rate drop of 30 bpm) for 5 cycles.

Yesterday:

Bench press: 135#x6, 155$x6, 185#x3
Dips: 3x10 bodyweight
1 hour on stationary bike
3 mile run

Today:

6 mile run

Forgot to mention 1500 meter swim yesterday.

Todd, I have no triathlons scheduled for the rest of this year, but I have 4 scheduled for next year and need to get ready for them:

June: Ironman Boise 70.3 and Rochester Olympic. These two are 8 days apart!
July: Racine 70.3
November: Ironman Cozumel 140.6

Cozumel is probably not wetsuit legal, but is salt water and I have been practicing in salt water but will train much more before then.

My weight is 198. I plan on competing at 178 by next June.

Geaux Tigers! I am marrying an LSU man! I had no idea you were one. :) Ready for football season to being next week?

Mel, I am a Gator and a Tiger. I had heard that parents become bigger fans of their kids' schools than their own schools and I sense that may be happening to me.

I am excited about football season starting next week but perplexed how I will feel on October 10 when the Gators play at LSU. It would be hard to root against LSU knowing my son will be at the game rooting for LSU.

COZUMEL!!!

you bastahd!

color me green!

cool for you Rich

Thanks Todd. Yeah, I am excited about the triathlon season next year.

Friday was work day. Saturday was fly home day. Yesterday: 5K run in 29:30. Today: 6 miles in 62:00. That 6-month layoff because of shin splints was costly.

500 yards pool swim - arms ached and couldn't go any farther
2 hours on stationary bike, easy/moderate pace.

Didn't get to work out until late, 9pm, and didn't finish until 12:30.

Gym:

DB bench press: 60# 3x10, 50# 2x10
Seated cable row: 3x10
Squats: 185# 3x6
BW dips: 8 (to failure)
Standing cable flies: 10. Shoulders hurt so didn't do more than 1 set.

5.8 mile run: 65:00.

Are you done traveling? Getting back into the grove of things at home? (looks good) I know it’s hard traveling and still getting things done for health, but it is doable (as you know). When I traveled I hated hitting the small rooms that they put a beat up treadmill and a few weights in at the hotel. Better than nothing though.

Come to think of it I remember working out on a cruise boat, trying to do dumbbell presses as the ship rocked. What a treat!

I am off this week (i.e., not traveling) but I'll be back on the road come Sunday - that is my profession for better or worse.

When I travel, I google the nearest YMCA and use it for the pool and weights, but I am not averse to using hotel stuff if it is good quality, which corresponds very closely to the nightly hotel rate.

I've done the cruise ship workout. They generally have good equipment and they are usually empty.
