Front squat grip

I asked this question in my log without success so I'm putting it up in here to get more traffic.
Does anyone know what differences there are between the olympic and bodybuilding (crossed arms) style grip for front squats? I've heard a couple of people say you should use olympic if you can but I've never heard why. I'm currently using the BB grip but if it's significantly better to use the oly style I'll try and move across to that.

Thanks

Cressey makes the argument that BB style is safer for the wrists (I don't disagree) but I also find it much more stable and easier to balance with the O grip.

I forgot about this question in your log. I prefer the O lift method after trying both. The bb style just doesnt allow me to feel in control of the bar. Once I actually learned how to position my wrists, its not a problem and I have no pain at all.

I say experiment with both and see which one you are most comfortable with.

So you don't think there's a difference in the effect or function of the lift then?

Nope, no real difference. Just diferent ways to hang on.

I like the OL style better because it does feel more stable and easier to control. Like tonymcclellan and bipennate said.

After my poor performance today using the BB style I might try OL style on Thursday, it just looks so tough on the wrists

The OL style has always felt awkward, so do crossed arms. Just a comfort factor for me, but I never felt it had any effect on the lift.

I like the cross arm grip. Just more comfortable for me

i do too. i don't have thick 'manly' wrists and definitely tweak them wrong from time to time (being a desk jocky trying to earn some carpel tunnel syndrome doesn't help either).
