Though I can't say how effective group exercise classes are, I can confirm they're loads of fun! I found a really nice yoga group at my previous gym (I recently moved) and the great group of gals there helped me to keep coming back. If I didn't show up I'd get a text after asking if I was OK.
So my advise would be find something you really enjoy with a nice group of people. Because the thing that counts in the end is that you keep going :)

Personally I don't like group classes, either as a participant or as instructor but if you like social interaction they are very effective.

Bodystep will burn more calories but pump will help you maintain muscle as your dropping the fat, especially if you don't feel comfortable in the weights section of the main gym. but like any form of exercise the more you put in the better your results.
