From My Couch To A 5K... And Beyond!

Isn't Sam awesome?! I really wish I could convince him to fly to Texas for me! :)

Sam - I would have no problem buying off of Ebay, but I would like to at least try a pair on in a store to know what fit/cut/style I want. I have a Macy's and a Dillard's nearby, but no Nordstrom's. I'll figure something out!

Anke - I agree! I would love to try on some Abercrombie's, but first I need to get near an Abercrombie! There's several in San Antonio, so maybe I'll have to make a trip!

oooh new jeans are fun. actually new clothes are fun...not that i know much about them compared to the input from some other people. HRM are great and that one sounds really good. enjoy! x

I've really enjoyed everyone's tips on jean shopping, and I'm going to have to use some of them later this fall when it comes time to wear them again. I have many pairs of jeans, but only a couple that fit me well, and that look good when I wear them.

I definitely recommend trying on pairs before buying on Ebay. Ebay can save some money for sure, I just always warn people to know exactly what they want before going shopping on there, and then to buy from a reputable seller that is located in THIS COUNTRY!... jmo

Darker washes are definitely more forgiving and can be very versatile, imo...

Thanks for the stylist comments, lol. I really don't consider myself an expert, I just read a lot of magazines and watch a lot of style tv and what not to wear and stuff, and I like to think I have a hint of good taste :). Stacy London is the jean expert for sure, imo.

Well Sammy, you are definitely an expert in my eyes! And I don't even know who Stacy London is!

What kind of shoes do you guys run in? I've been using Asics, but I'm trying to figure out which fit/style is the most comfortable. I've been trying shoes on all day! I think I have figured out that men shoes fit my wide, flat feet the best. James bought a pair of the Asics Nimbus... I have tried on the Kayanos and the Cumuluses. These stores are ticking me off... thy never seen to have the size I need! I would order from Zappos.com, but I want to make sure they feel good before I buy them!

Lovely Lady Humps just gave me a screen full about the sneaks I've been using. She said to definitely get good shoes that are fitted to your foot. She also said to go to a running store because they depend on your satisfaction for repeat customers. Don't know where there is one around me, but I'm sure there is. It's commercial central here. Also, she recommended this site:

I have a very flat foot, but I have never noticed the over pronation problem. I have been looking on zappos.com for shoes designed for over pronators... there's a lot of Asics that are designed for this, and they get really high reviews. My complaint on the ones I tried on today is that the ankle part in the back is way too high. I could feel it rubbing the back of my ankle already, and that was just from taking a few steps. It made me mad, because the shoe itself was very comfortable other than that! I guess it probably doesn't help that I wear low cut socks.

I've always worn low cut socks, even when I was training for and ran my 5K. They have never given me a problem before! It was just this particular pair of shoes that rubbed he back of my ankle. Too bad, because I really liked them.

I did find a pair that fits, and I bought them. They seem to be comfortable so far. They are also Asics, just not the most attractive ones. I guess that shouldn't be what matters! :) I am still aiming to find that perfect pair, though. The pair that molds to my foot and feels great!

Yes, yes, yes! My Polar heart rate monitor/watch arrived today!!!

I can't wait to run tonight (WHAT?!) to test it out!!! :D

I also can't wait to use it at boot camp tomorrow morning!

I am severely flat footed myself. I am an over-pronater big time. I currently wear Asics and they fit my foot great and allow me to run perfectly :)... They aren't the most attractive shoes I guess, they aren't bad. I used to be so into how shoes looked and stuff but they would basically torture my foot when I ran in them (esp. if I wore Nikes)... I will try to find out what exactly my model of Asics running shoe is and letcha know. I actually got them off Ebay, lol... I hear another good shoe for flat footed runners (male) is Brooks Beast or something. I will look that one up as well and post again.

BTW, Stacy London is on "What Not to Wear" on TLC. If you ever catch it, I promise you will not be disappointed. She is super smart and stylish, and very funny, imo. She is really blunt and sarcastic sometimes, and some are turned off by that but, her heart is always in the right place and her and Clinton always make people look fabulous.

Yay! for you Heart Rate Monitor to arrive. I love getting shit in the mail that you have purchased online, it's like buying it twice, lol...:) I am currently waiting for my new laptop to arrive, and it can't come soon enough!!!

Oh Sammy, you are a man of my own heart. I LOVE buying stuff on eBay. James does, too. James sells stuff as well - he has well over 1200 feedback! I'm not quite as 'accomplished' as him, but I have definitely made a name for myself! :) I love, love, love getting things in the mail! It's so much fun to win the auction, then it's so much fun to receive it! Like you said, it is like buying (and winning!) twice! :D

I will have to check that show out! It sounds like something I would enjoy watching, and I could definitely use the fashion tips!

I'm looking forward to hearing more about your Asics. We flat footers have to stick together! The pair I have right now are the Frantic 2.

I love you Tyly, ur so funny :)

My Asics are Gel Foundation VI, or whatever the hell that means. They aren't too great looking but not too bad if I wear them with ankle socks... The Brooks Beast are a flat footed mens running shoe too but, imo those are pretty fugly... I'd still wear them though if they were good to my foot. I get a wide 2E width, just because I have literally zero arch and don't want any form of one digging into my foot. Blisters in the arch area are the absolute worst, imo....

I love Ebay but, it can easily get addicting. I'm pretty good at going on there to window shop when I'm bored at work, lol. I haven't sold many things on there, mostly just bought stuff off there, and saved tons of moolah too. If you know what your doing Ebay can be great but, there are of course some people on there whose goal is to rip you off, so you have gotta beware, which I'm sure your well aware of already;)

That show is pretty good, at least I think. They usually take really fashionably challenged women and sometimes men and bring them to N.Y., then go thru their current wardrobe and tell them what they are doing wrong, and then get rid of it and give them a Visa with 5K on it and let them go shopping on their own one day with everything they have learned about dressing themselves in the right way (in style, right for their bodytype, skin, hair, etc.), then on the second day let them go shopping with Stacy and Clinton who help them out a lot. Then they get the hair/makeup makeover and have a final reveal for Stacy/Clinton and their family and friends. It's a pretty decent show imo.

The paragraph above contains one of the longest run on sentences ever to probably exist but I don't feel like fixing it, lol :)

I'm curious to see what your HR is on your run tonight, and how that compares to boot camp tomorrow.

Hey! Awesome about the HR monitor!

Oh, I just love them mini style makeover shows... it just proves that a few small changes can make a HUGE difference!

I too window shop online... very addictive, I agree.... and winning that auction! Makes me feel so proud :)

When asking what shoes other runners recommend on a different forum, one person suggested "Asics Gel" shoes.... think those are the ones you have Sammy. So I'm gonna see if I can find me a pair!

James and I had never missed a single session of boot camp until today! GRR! Seriously?! Today of all days?! The day that I was so excited to try out my new HR monitor?! GRR!

Long story short, he thought he switched on the alarm, I didn't double check like I always do, so we both missed out. Crap, crap, crap. Both of us are at fault.

I'm pissed because not only did I not get to use my cool, new toy, I also missed out on a kick ass workout! I did run this morning, and I also mowed the lawn. I know it's not the same, but at least it's something! I also plan on running tonight in my cool, new shoes! :D

I used the HR monitor last night while running, and my average heart rate on my run was a 152. The max was a 182. I can guarantee that it is much, much higher at boot camp, but I won't know until Monday! :(

my cool, new shoes (the ones with red)! I just bought them today. They were a load of money, but hopefully they're worth the price. I have never spent so much on workout shoes, but at the same time, I have never been so serious about working out. After all, I did ask for a HR monitor for my birthday! If you read all the shoe's features to the right, they have it all! Plus, they are designed for over pronators, which is what I am. I read all the reviews, and there seems to be more good ones than bad ones. I'll know for myself soon enough!

I have learned the key to workout motivation is buying new stuff to try out! Yesterday's motivator was the HR monitor, and today's is the new shoes... I wonder what I'll buy for tomorrow's workout motivation? Haha! I kid. :D

Bummer about missing Boot Camp. I'm assuming that they don't have it on the weekends, right? Well, you'll have a motivator Monday morning.

So how's this for last minute?

I just now decided (at 6:30 pm!) that I am going to run the 5K in Temple (a city near me) tomorrow morning!

A girl mentioned it this morning, but I put it out of my head. As I was playing around on the computer, I decided to check it out. I looked at the website, printed out the registration form, and James and I are leaving at 6:30 tomorrow morning! He's so amazingly supportive!

I honestly don't even know if I can run 5K anymore! I haven't run that distance since I ran it on May 3rd, but as James said, there's only one way to find out if I still can!

I'm not expecting any awesome finish time... like I said, I haven't run that distance in a few months!

Wish me luck!
