From alpha testing to the QUERCUS 200

The previous one at the theater was Interstellar. I never saw Avatar. We'll go every once in a while when it's something we are both interested in and it has effects making the big screen a plus. All the damn commercials and previews piss me off. I won't be back while they are still a clear memory.

So yesterday was a marathon of wood cutting. I stack more wood yesterday than I have ever had at one time. My blisters got blisters so I had to stop short of splitting the last of the rounds, but I don't have room for all of it anyway despite building a new rack yesterday. I'll be building or buying a fourth rack for the porch.

The 5K was slow and in the dark. I am so tired today.

Rest up dude, overdoing it just leads to uncontrollable cravings. Sleep well!

By gum Q... I wish I could borrow you for a few days. We have an old silver birch which needs your attention. I'm still losing weight and getting a bit more agile, stairs no longer bother me

Thanks LaMa! I've been sleeping like a log.
Thanks Tru!
Thanks Polly! Birch would be so much easier to split than these oaks. That's awesome that stairs aren't a problem! Keep it up!

Last night was a very slow 5K after dark. I spent the daylight marking dead trees to cut. Most of what I found was pretty rotten and just needs to come down for safety. I've got plenty of firewood anyway and with yesterday's 94 degree high it doesn't seem that I will be burning any soon.

Impressive string of 5k's you're putting together 320'ish days in especially with all the firewood and outdoor work you're doing at the same time. Sounds like the sleep is well deserved.

Thanks K&D!
Thanks Cate! My hands must be toughening up a bit as they were okay to do a little splitting this evening.

So a 28:32 5K for day 321 of the run streak and day 13 of the 5K streak.

I split a small pile of wood while E cooked our dinner to keep me from snacking. Maybe 10 rounds split with several of those quite small. We have quite a few dead hophornbeam trees (Ostrya virginia) that are small trees with very dense wood that doesn't rot quickly. I read that they have a very high BTU so I will be cutting those for firewood as well and they are well seasoned from standing dead so long and small enough to use in the round (I don't think they would split anyway).

Ah, Quercus. I have many a fond childhood memory of splitting wood. My dad always chose a nice dead white oak tree. Or a damn hickory. Then he'd have me and my brother out there hacking at the sumbitch for hours until we had some reasonably sized logs. I feel your pain.

Much too hot Oaks and Cate!
Damn hickory is it's official name. Crooked grained bastards! White oaks split and burn great.

Good to "see" you Cory!

Day 322 29:37 5K and day 14 of the 5K streak.

Crazy hot weather. How many weeks a year do you need to burn firewood?

Sounds like you'll soon have enough firewood for a few years

We get below freezing temperatures from mid November through February. How often it is that cold during those three months varies wildly from year to year. It will be enough wood for a long time, but I have two firepits outside one in the yard and one in our camping spot that will burn some of it along with the brush from the tree canopies.

I've not heard that phrase LaMa, but it does make sense.

Last night was a 30:21 5K for day 323 of the runstreak. Still no scale but I'm wearing a shirt for the first time and I'm feeling smaller.

Looks like you're in the middle of a great Rocktober. Congrats on the shirt, nice when the clothes decide to congratulate you for all the hard work.

Feeling smaller is lovely xoxo
