From 252 to 172 - From Oblivious Fatty to Healthy Dude

Well I did it. Today marks the day I have met my goal. I checked my weight on the scale this morning and I was at 172 even. My height is 5'11" and I checked several calculators and because I have a medium frame it says I fall into my ideal weight range.

I started my journey in January of 2007. I got food poisoning from Taco Bell and had a somewhat epiphany while I was sick. Perhaps eating crap all the time is a bad life choice! Anyway I lost 10 pounds from that sickness and decided to keep it going. I bought a scale and became obsessed with calorie counting.

I was watching an episode of Dr. Phil the other day with calorie counting obsessed people. I now realize I act just like them. I allow calorie counting to change my social life. I stay in on the weekends so I can monitor what I eat and avoid all temptation. Well now I've decided to start my new journey of not becoming calorie obsessed but just healthy. I will drink beer but in moderation! I will eat 3 meals a day again but not MGriddles and Foot Long Italian Subs! I'm so excited to live again!

Party on people and never give up!

I might post pics later.

Congrats on reaching your goal, and making such wonderful changes for yourself and the rest of your life :)

... and... I am with the other gals... PICS!!!! :hurray:

Later I promise :)

Also, is there a way to do private images? Because I'd post my face on here but you know it's scary to do that sometimes.

Yep valid point, it can be scary, privacy is not something that is really looked after well on this forum, these forums are open to any old anyone passing by, you don't even have to be registered to see images....Lack of privacy is really annoying when it is so easy to achieve with this software.. but meh.. it's not my forum, I won't be posting identifying pics myself though.

I would suggest if you do want to post images that you cut your head off and remove any identifying background images and then add a water mark over the top of the photo so scam artist weight loss places don't steal them.

Like I said, it is a PITA when they could make it much more secure very easily.

Having said that, the before and after images are a huge motivator for a lot of people! That is why we are keen to see them, I absolutely love seeing the transformations!!!! THat is why we would love to see yours, but will understand if you don't want to post them.

:)

Well I am interested in hearing more since you and I had the same starting weight (within 1 lb) and are the same height. In a little less than one year I went from 251 to 194. Today I am 197 and struggling to lose more. I only want to lose 10 or 15 more.

How old are you? Also, what was your longest plateau and how did you break through it?

The only way I can think of to achieve some privacy is to post an album of photos in your User CP and then change your options to display to Friends only. Of course, you'd have to make a whole lot of friends if you wanted to show a whole lot of people.

I am 25 years old. Ah plateaus. So brutal. Odd thing is my longest plateau happened right around the weight you are currently at. I spent about 4 months in the mid 190s. Perhaps it was the excitement of getting below 200.

For tackling my plateaus I usually changed my eating habits. If I was eating wraps for lunch I'd switch to salads. If I was eating chicken for dinner I'd switch to fish.

Other than that I was pretty controversial. I rarely exercised through the entire process. Unless you count golfing as exercise lol. I fasted a lot on the weekends. I sometimes only ate 1 meal a day. I drink lots of Coffee. I think those are the things that got me through my plateaus. I drank lots of iced coffee and fasted on the weekends.

Sooo isn't that the same as starving yourself? Fasting every weekend, so not eating at all on any weekend and just drinking loads of iced coffee? I didn't think too much coffee was a good thing for our bodies?

You said you were oblivious b4....what kind of things did you eat b4..how often? Did it include the weekends?

How do you eat now to maintain? Same stuff, with a higher amount? Do you continue to fast every weekend? Or have you gone back to eating on the weekends if that is in fact what you did b4 as well? Has your body fluctuated a lot more now with putting any weight back on if you now eat on the weekends?

Curious, Thanks.

Before I would eat a lot. I would eat footlong subs for lunch and 3 sloppy joes for dinner. Lots of chips in there for snacks. On the weekends I'd drink like 10 beers+ a night Friday and Saturday. Tons of french fries and tons of buffalo wings. I ate crap pretty much.

But like today so far I've had a cesar salad and that's it. I plan on having a bagel with cream cheese for dinner and maybe some chips and salsa. My intake is so significantly lower than before and my hunger is non existent.

On the weekends I wouldn't call it a complete fast. I'd eat one meal and that's it. Like either lunch or dinner. And yes I guess you could say it's starving yourself.

It might sound crazy, but it worked.

It does sound crazy...because it is not good for your body.

I find it interesting how ppl on here say their hunger is non-existent and that they don't feel hungry. I also know that I didn't feel hungry when I never ate as well. But it wasn't a healthy way for me.

That to me just doesn't seem like a healthy meal plan even for today. :leaving:

I am still happy for you that you were able to lose your weight, but I hope for your sake it doesn't come back to bite you in the ass....exhaustion, body not working properly, ect...

What I am putting my body through now could not be as bad as I was putting it through before. I have blood work to prove it lol.

Maybe I jumped the gun here. I've checked and found charts that say 160 is an ideal weight and calculators that say 172. So what's the deal.

- 5'11"
- Medium Frame (Middle Finger and thumb touch)
- 34"
