freeweights v machines

i was just wondering what you guys think about machine weights? ive never used them cuz ive never been to a gym as ive got a bench an bar/dumbells at home so all i do is freeweights and bodyweights ive heard that machines arent as good ?

machines sucks for the most part. They use a fixed range of motion, which is not your joints natrual movement. And it eliminates stabilizing muscles, which is a big part of getting stronger and being able to "use" the strenght for real life activities, like sports.

cheers

cheers at the moment i do a lot of barbell work and just use dumbells for arms. I do bench press, shoulder press, clean and press, upright rows, bent over rows, stiff legged deadlifts and occasionally curls with the bar but i find this hurts my wrists thats why i use dumbells for my arms.

I've used machines before that have ended up causing me problems with my joints and muscles, using machines is a sure way to get injured, I try to never use them anymore. As Karky said, they eliminate the need for stabilizing muscles so aren't much good for building muscle anyway

freeweights are number one IMO,but machines have there place,as long as you progress the load even machines will make you grow and it better than doing nothing:cool: :D

unfortunately where i workout at right now only has machines (2 minutes from my house) other than dumbbells. I REALLY prefer freeweights but i do have to say machines are better than nothing. You just really have to watch how you use the machines to make sure you use only the muscles you are working out with. Plus right now, for the most part i don't have a spotter, so when i get to into the set and can't do anymore reps, i can stop, drop some weight and continue for a couple more reps.

Like i said freeweights for the win, but when you are by yourself or it is all you have, you can get some good gains by them
