Free's Rotation Diet Diary

Only gained 2 lbs on my LA vacation which is great considering how I pigged out, particularly at Poquito Mas in Burbank.

:hurray:

Lost 4 lbs on approximately 1300 calories. Most of my LA weight gain must have been water retention from the salty mexican food, lots of chips and salsa.

:banghead:

It's not so much how much you eat but what you eat. I ate a bunch of chips yesterday and too much salt and I gained 2 lbs. I am sure that it is mostly water and I can probably lose it in a day on 1200 cals, but I have to eliminate chips from my diet.

It looks like you are starting to yo-yo. Be careful not to get stuck at the same weight.

Saturday I start back on the 1200/1500 rotation and I am finished with long vacation trips until October so I will get back on track. Pesently I am almost on track to my goal. I have lost about 40 lbs so far.

Lost 2.2 lbs on 1200 cals and 90 mins of exercise. I am gratified to see that by rotating my calorie intake, exercising and eating metabolism boosting foods, I have increased my metabolism rate while dieting. I just need to stay disciplined and not pig out on fattening food.

For 22 years I considered Katahn’s rotation diet the gospel because it worked for me. Once I modified it and discovered that my modifications work better for me than Katahn’s diet, I no longer consider Katahn the guru that I once did. My 4 week diet rotation plan works much better than Katahn’s 3 week plan. Previously I thought that there was some magic to Katahn’s system so I adhered to it religiously. Now I have discovered that my plan of increasing calorie intake by 100 calories per day in the second and fourth weeks works much better and it has actually sped up my metabolism. It occurs to me that Katahn’s 1200/1500/1800 regime was adopted by him because it was easier for him to prepare his meal plan that way. Since I use fruits, vegetables and nuts as caloric building blocks, it is easy for me to increase my caloric intake by 100 calories per day; and that results in greater weight loss and increased metabolism rate.

Those one day weight reductions that you are getting on 1200 calories and 90 minutes of exercise are impressive but the real test will be if you can meet your long term weight loss goals.

I will meet my goals. My rotation had to be altered because of my vacation trips. I did not have a scale and there were too many temptations in LA.

Your rotation doesn't seem to fit any pattern now. Neither Katahn's or your own modifications?

I have kept Katahn's 1200/1500 rotation for weeks 1 and 3, but I have changed the week 2 rotation to alternating days of 1800/1500; and added a 4th of 1600 to 2200 calories.

I start this new rotation today. Since I don't leave town without my scales on vacation I can finally get a true indication of the effectiveness of my diet. My goal is to lose 30 lbs during the 4 week rotation.

I have modified Katahn’s second week rotation again. I think I can lose more weight and not lower my metabolism with a 1800/1500 alternate day rotation for the second week.

Here is my modification of the Rotation Diet:

1st Week:

First 3 days 1200 calories per day

Next 4 days 1500 calories per day

2nd Week:

Next 7 days 1800/1500 calorie alternation

3rd Week:

Next 3 days 1200 calories per day

Next 4 days 1500 calories per day

4th Week:

Next 7 days 1600 increased by 100 calories
per day to 2200 calories per day

This is a 4 week rotation instead of the 3 week rotation of Katahn's Diet.

I am anxious to see how those second week modifications work out for you. Hopefully it will not lower your metabolism.

I will be weighing everyday if I don't continue losing weight in the second week then I will modify the diet.

7/4 276.6 Lost .8 of a lb. on approximately 1300 cals and 75 mins exercise. Splurged just a bit on cals since I am sick of having only 1200, but I am proud of myself for not pigging out. I am glad I just have one more day of 1200 cal rotation. The test today is to stay away from the BBQ.
