Frankies Diary

Hi Everyone,

Wow, I am finally back!!! Thanks everyone for stopping by, so nice to hear from you all, and a happy new year to everyone!

Well, the house was full of people until the 28th (my birthday) and we then went away on an unplanned excursion to stay with friends at their beach house, so I haven't been here to pop in like usual. We had the best time, and ate and drank far too much, but that's life. It was perfect beach weather and we loved swimming, well for me that means just getting wet, and having barbeques, and reading and relaxing.

We came back new years eve as a friend has a rather large boat and so we bought in the new years on sydney harbour and were very lucky to have a fabulous spot right at the front with no boats in front of us. It was magic and a truly memorable evening.

Yesterday I just relaxed as we didn't get home till 2am and the boys had me up for their walk at 6am, so not much sleep.

I am finally back and can start my regular routine - thank goodness!!!

So am going to read through a few diaries with a cup of tea and then go for a walk. Summer has finally arrived here and it's really hot, so it's not as pleasant walking, but it is something I have to do. I have major goals in 2008 and they don't include this spare tyre round my tummy!!

NJ, I LOVE LOVE LOVE maine coone cats - I am sooooooo jealous! They are one of the breeds I would love to have one day, but our two burmese girls have just turned 10 and I hope to have them both healthy and happy for some time still. Would adore to see a picture of both the guinea pig and pussy cat!

Hugs to all,
Frankie

and Happy New Year!

Hi Frankie

I am pleased that the summer has finally arrived for you. We all need a summer - even if it does make walking a bit less comfortable. I would have thought that the early morning walks would not be too much affected though as it will be before it gets too hot. I remember in Greece - the early morning and the evening were comfortable in the summer - despite feeling like you were in an oven in the afternoon.

It sounds like you had an absolutely brilliant new year. You were so fortunate to be invited to view a major event from such a vantage point. It all sounds so very civilised.

The unexpected beach trip sounds to have been wonderful too. You certainly were rewarded for having spent Christmas with certain in laws.

I hope that things are continuing to go well with you and that you are managing to get fully back into the swing of your diet and fitness lifestyle. Many people find it a little difficult after Christmas - but it is well worth the effort.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Hiya Frankie,

Well, it took alot of hunting, but I found my old thread - way, way wayyyyy back!! I didn't want to start a new one, because I needed to own up to buggering off the first time.

We have had alot of change this year, so life has been a rollercoaster. My husband was approached for a new job in Singapore, and so left his last one, and we took three months and went travelling around Europe. My first time there, it was magical, but was hell on my waist line. My action man hubby had me walking from around 8.30am till 5pm (inbetween gorgeous lunches every day) most days, unless we were travelling, so we didn't miss a thing. I tried to say it hurt, but it took stress fractures across the front of my right foot, revealed when we got home, to convince him I wasn't complaining for nothing. He blames my weight - and yes, he does have a very valid point.

So although when we got back in late May I then wanted to exercise it took months to recover and very strong voltaren. I now have bought proper walking shoes.

So hubby moves to Singapore in last week of may when we were back from travelling, I stayed in Sydney, packed everything up, moved into an apartment we are keeping there, organised our place to be renovated, and got it rented. I moved over to a serviced apartment with the animals in August.

Since getting here, the decision has been made the business would be better located to be in Hong Kong, so we are now moving there (just announced last week). I have been living out of a suitcase since february, and have not had my things about me since July when everything was packed up (still in a container in storage), so am looking forward to finally settling.

On the weight front, I am around 81.3 kg (just weighed myself) so I have alot of work to do. I think once I am settled it will be easier, but that's an excuse that doesn't wash with me anymore.

I apologize to everyone who has been so supportive to me here, I just went off into Nerverneverland, and hope you can let me back in here. Because I need this, and I truly need support. I still have alot of change coming - I have no idea how I am going to organise this move to HK, hubby is too busy working, and I just can't move into another serviced apartment. But I will get there - there is alot of worse s--t out there, and it's another adventure for us.

In the meantime, I need to be a bigger priority, and that's why I am back. I feel like this year has disappeared and I have felt like a spectator. No more. And no more excuses.

Sorry such a long post, but wanted to come clean.

Now, my journey will continue,
Thanks Frankie

Well, yesterday was a good day!

I ate really well, and although I am recovering from the dreaded lurgy (common amongst people who relocate to Singapore as different strains here and also the weather is quite different), I did take The Boys for their walks.

My goal today, aside from sticking to my healthy eating plan, is to start the couch to 5km jogging program. So this is officially week 1 of that program. I will let you know how I go. I have to take it pretty easy due to the flu, but I am just about over that, and I don't want to put it off for another week.

Today is Melbourne Cup day, the biggest horse race in Australia, and so a bunch of Australians here in Singapore are getting together for a big boozey and betting lunch which we have of course been invited to. Hubby is going to have to go without me for all that fun. I can't - still too fluey and not that much of an appetite still.

I spent a large part of yesterday reading through some of your journals, and it's really helping me, so thanks again everyone.

So yesterdays food:

B: watermelon, low fat yoghurt and a sprinkle of organic natural muesli
snack: celery stick
Lunch: 2 pieces wholemeal bread, low fat ham, hummus and lettuce and tomato
snack: carrot
Dinner: oven baked salmon and salad

Now I just need to get some regular sleep!!!!!!!!

Frankie

Well, my sleep is still terrible. We are stuck in this very small apartment with 2 cats and 2 dogs, and one of the cats is not coping well in the confined space. She literally yeowls for the majority of the night and just won't shut up for the night - poor girl has severe cabin fever, and there is not much we can do. I am, of course, a very light sleeper, and so I am up most of the night trying to keep her quiet and not keep up the other apartment dwellers who are all in very close proximity. And can I say, at three in the morning, when all is dead quiet, she can be bloody loud!!

I did the first day of the couch to 5km training, so am happy about that. Other than a massive coughing fit this morning, my flu is much better this morning.

My food yesterday was great - stuck to plan, so am proud of that.

Other than drunk hubby arriving late home to wake me and the dogs and tell me that I have no life and don't go out and what's wrong with me, the day was a great success.

So today's plan is to meet up with a girlfriend for lunch and have a healthy soup, buy some salmon for dinner and make a wilted spinach and chick pea salad with a dash of garlic and lemon for dinner, oh - and go to the gym this afternoon. And drink plenty of water. My girlfriend just got engaged so can't wait to see her!!!

I will also continue to read peoples journals here, hope you don't mind. But they keep me motivated, grounded, and focused on me.

Frankie

Yesterday it was great catching up with my friend, she is soooo happy! We had chicken salad for lunch, with the dressing on the side for me. And I had heaps of water yesterday. Her fiance came and joined us for coffee afterwards as well (I had some tea).

Ended up going out for beautiful fresh vietnamese food for dinner last night, and made all really healthy choices, you know fresh prawn paper rolls instead of deep fried, and some beautiful salads, so totally guilt free. Will have the salmnon instead.

We came home and watched Don't Mess With The Zohan - Adam Sandler cracks me up!!!

I didn't get to the gym though, which I am disappointed in myself by, so have to go tomorrow.

I have to look on the bright side though - food was good and my 5th straight alcohol free day, a real achievement for me.

So onwards and upwards onto a great day today.

Well went to the gym and did another session of the couch to 5km so all good.

Stuck to my eating plan:

B: 1 poached egg, 1 piece wholemeal bread
L: 2 pieces wholemeal bread, hummos, low fat ham, lettuce and tomato
Snack: celery and carrot
Dinner: oven baked salmon and spinach and chick pea salad.
Tonnes of water

So all that was pretty good. So that is 6 days straight I have stayed pretty consistent, and that is a record so far for me, and I know how important this is for me overall. I am just going to remain focused on my personal goals, and have a little reward.

If I do 7 days straight, no alcohol, then I can get a mani/pedi that I need. If not, then will do my nails myself and the pedi will have to wait. (one more day to go).

I really enjoyed the gym but know I need to do more than just this program, so as of monday next week I am going to start keeping journal of what I am doing exercise wise, so that I can compare and set mini goals - that sort of thing to keep me motivated. My goal as of next week is to go to the gym 5 days. So far this week I have been threes days, and will probably only end up there 4 days this week. I know this sounds weird, but I just want to start off slow and make sure that I give myself achievable mini-goals, so that I feel I am always moving forward.

Hmmmm, so mini-goals for next weeK
- no alcohol
- gym 5 days a week
- complete 2nd week couch to 5km program

OK, will leave the minigoals at that for next week, let's hope I do them.

Frankie

Hey Frankie :)

I think it's amazing that you haven't given up and that you're starting over again. It takes a lot to start up again after you've taken a break.

You seem to do a lot of traveling. I am so envious. Darn you :p

You're around the same weight that I think I'm at right now so we'll be doing this journey together! :)

Your diet seems flawless so far. Very healthy! Also great job on the no alcohol. For me, it was quitting soda...it's tough!

Starting off slow is not weird at all. It's GOOD. Before when I've gone all full force into these diets, I've only ended up failing.

You have some great mini-goals set. Totally obtainable. What kind of exercise do you do in the gym?

Keep up the GREAT work, Frankie. I believe in you. You WILL do this!

<3 Jes

Decided to drop by YOUR diary... haven't read any yet, but will be checking in from now on :)

Have a great weekend!!

Hi Jes, Anke,

Thanks so much for popping by my diary - it means alot to me.

Jes, yep, am happy to do this together, although I reckon I am a good 20 years older than you, so somehow I think you will get there before me!!! And I had to give up diet coke zero - really hard, as it satisfied my cravings and also was a sweet treat. But, it had to go.

I had another great day yesterday - one week totally alcohol free, now that's something big for me. I was never that big a drinker, but since coming here, did become one, having wine every night just about. My husband travels all the time, and so, well, I was lonely, and it helped me to fill in the nights, and also helped me sleep. Really bad. It got not to be something I enjoyed as a treat, but something I did as a habit. A very bad lonely habit.
So I am very proud of one week alcohol free. Mani/ pedi here I come!!!!!!!

I did another day of the couch to 5km and 20 minutes on the bike as well, so am proud of that.
B: 1 poached egg, 1 piece wholemeal toast
L: 2 slices whole grain, low fat ham, lettuce, hummos, tomato
D: Home made burgers with weight watchers mince - Yum!!

Still not sleeping well with a disturbed cat, but you get that.

Thanks for all the support and fabulous motivation,

Frankie

So I went to the gym again yesterday, the fourth day this week!! And did another sesstion of the couch to 5km, and 20 minutes on the bike, and sit ups and stretches. My stomach hurts today!!

I ate really well, except overate last night at dinner. Had a work dinner with husband at a very exclusive members only club where it is very swanky, silver service and they serve the chinese food to you in individual portions. As it was a business dinner, hubby orders alot of swanky food - lobster, etc. Nothing deep fried at least. But I didn't eat it all, just tasted some courses, no rice, and only drank mineral water. I was bloody full (not used to having so much) and tired, but had to join them in the bar after as they all had cognacs. I just wanted to be in bed!

Got home 12.30am and hubby left this morning at 6am for Korea. Japan, Hong Kong and China. He will be back in two weeks. So this week will be a huge test to stay off the booze and continue to eat healthy.

Today, sunday, is rest day. I am off to a champagne brunch for my friends who just got engaged and also it is Jacqui's birthday. Here, they do champagne brunches where you can drink as much moet, veuve, taittinger, mumm, etc for the same set price. It will be a huge test for me not to drink when all the others are, and when they are all celebrating - so I better get some sparkling mineral water!!!!!

Goals for this week:
- 5 days at gym
- start exercise journal
- complete week 2 couch to 5km
- no alcohol

Wish me luck!
Frankie

Wow, that could be quite a difficult challenge! I'm sure you will stick to your resolve though, you can do it!!

Good morning, Frankie! :)

Congrats on making it into the gym 4 times in a week. Dedication, FTW!

You're doing GREAT with the exercise.

We all tend to overeat at times. It happens. Don't sweat it :)

Hope you win the battle at the champagne brunch and don't have too much. Stick with the mineral water and I know you'll do great :)

You've done great so far. First week is always the hardest. Pssh...like you need the luck :p I KNOW you're going to kick butt this week!

Keep up the fabulous work! It WILL pay off :)

Sorry I haven't been here but as you know, we are moving to Hong Kong in late Feb next year. So yesterday, a friend with a car took me and our two cats and two dogs to the vet for their vaccinations. This is a rabies free country, but HK isn't, so they all had to have rabies shots. Well, we came home and Frankie had a reaction. I have been upmost the night with him, it was very scary and at one point I was going to take him into the vet hospital. But he is OK this morning, and is sleeping now (wish I was).

Anyway, brunch was good and I am still alcohol free.

I weighed in at 80.4 kilos so let's hope I crack the 70s next week. I am happy with that.

Well, I need to get my butt to the gym, thanks so much for your support,

Frankie's Mum

Sorry I have been away, but things got worse with my Firkids last week.

Frankie was really bad after his vaccinations on monday, and we were going to take him in to be hospitalised but he was ok over night, and alot better on tuesday. Come wednesday though, Budy could not use his back legs, he could not sit or lie down and I was very worried. He also found it very hard to squat to do a pooh.

So I spent four days in and out of the vet over the last 10 days or so, Buddy had to be totally rested with me or hospitalised, they did blood tests, neurological tests, and also checked for hip displasia. I had the choice of keeping him at home with me, or him being hospitalised - but the important thing was complete rest. He has been on 6 tablets a day, and a syringe of stuff into his mouth.

He has recovered, but it was a bad reaction to the rabies vaccine, the vet thinks. It has been awful.

I have not drunk alcohol, and my food has been prett good, except for mcdonalds one day. I have not been to the gym, I have pretty much either spent the day organised around getting to the vet, or stayed at home with Frankie and Buddy. I have had little sleep, but they are both ok, and I am very thankful for that. I have been on my own all this time, but husband arrives home tonight. Yay! It was very frightening for me, he is so little, and was in such obvious distress, and my girlfriend had to put herself out all the time to take me to the vets as I don't have a car here.

Anyway, we are all here and happy, and healthy, so I am back on my journey, and am very thankful. Who would have thought my little Buddy would have had such problems? I was only allowed to start their regular walks on wednesday!!!

So I am back, and will tne in tomorrow to update!

Frankie

Well, yesterday was all good and I ate according to plan, so felt fantastic.

This morning, I got up and walked The Boys and then went to the gym and walke/ jogged 5km, in 40 minutes, so am as red as a beetroot, and very happy and sweaty.

On a down note, noticed Frankie has an abcess forming in his nether regions from where he was groomed and shaved obviously too close for comfort, and he has been licking it, and now it is raw and swollen and red and inflamed. Arggghhh!!! I have just the thing for it - doggy cortisone cream, but of course, it is with all my things in the container in storage with all my other things, and of course, vet won't give to me without taking dog in here, so I have another trip to the vet to organise!!!!!!!!!!

I am sooooo over this!! But I love my Boys, so that's what you do.

My husband came home last night, so it's great to have him home, but he is very tired. It's 10am and I have already done heaps, including all the above, have breakfast, fold and wash and hang out a load of washing. And he is put out he has to come to the vet. I just can't ask Ali again, - that would be five times in less than 2 weeks. Not fair.

Anyway, will continue to eat well: Plan for today:

B: watermelon, low fat yoghurt
L: 2 pieces wholemeal bread, low fat ham, salad
Snack: carrot/ celery sticks
D: out at business dinner, will be as good as I can and no dessert, bread, or alcohol.
