Food Diary

Hi guys

I was just curious as to how many of you have kept, or are keeping, food diaries? I was giving some thought to keeping one but wanted to know if anyone had found it useful, or if you found you were forgetting to record foods, misjudged quantities, or whether even just having the food diary and seeing the results made absolutely no difference?

Would be keen to hear how people got on!

Cheers guys,

Jonny

I keep one on my mobile (iphone app). it's useful to track daily calorie counts and find information on a food when none is on the packaging.

never forgotten to record food as I can go back and add it the next day if need be, quantities can be a problem but the more time you spend with accurate quantities the easier it gets to estimate them (hidden stuff like cooking oil and fat really causes problems though).

It's been useful to refer back a few weeks from time to time, and not having to keep the numbers in my head or add them up repeatedly certainly helps.

I'm the same as Tourny, except I keep mine on my smartphone!

I use my fitness pal, you can sign onto their webpage too but I never do cos I find my phone the handiest. If I didn have my phone I dont know how I'd lose weight, because even last time I lost 21lb I was using an Ipod app!

I agree that it does help. I am currently using Loseit on my iphone. More than anything I think keeping track has been the only thing to educate me about nutrition. It tells me how many calories I should eat per day in order to reach my goal and I can look up food from many restaurants before visiting them to decide what I should eat. It also scans barcodes on food and most of the time can find the nutritional info right away.

It keeps me accountable, just like this forum :)

I've been using spark people and their iPad app, it's been good but sometimes takes some searching to find what I'm looking for. I also downloaded the calorie king app to cross check questionable foods. I try and prepare all my own meals so nothing is hidden in there. I've had good success this time around and the last time I lost a significant amount of weight with food diaries. It helps to be able to go back and analyze my intake if I'm not seeing the losses I think I should be.

Can somebody please help me find my way around?

Am a new-be, don't know what to do.

Start a food diary seems a good place to try but is there a place I can go to where I can ask questions?

All advice gratefully accepted.
