... the fact that you´re having it in processed form rather than fresh ....

sort of take exception at the word "processed". yes, there is a process, but it is merely taking all the water out... nothing else. you have to understand, without the water, this fruit is exceptionally concentrated calories. i am just saying that with heavy, water filled fruit, i would have been full and never would have eaten as much as i have recently. as i mentioned before, this is the danger of freeze drying fruit.

That´s exactly what I meant. It´s not heavily processed but freeze-drying is definitely a way of processing food to make it more storable. Great eye for those birds, by the way!

weight loss is one place it's even better when you overshoot your target...

i haven't stopped snacking on FD fruit tidbits, but i limit them to 1 or two pieces.
frankly, i'd much rather eat a banana one slice at a time anyway.
try to do this with fresh fruit... :)

I´d be unconscious on the floor before I got to the third slice - allergic to bananas and this specific allergy just knocks my bp down like crazy.

i got a mild case of hives after eating at a German restaurant once, but it's still a mystery to me what food was the cause and it's never happened again. pretty glad i don't have one of the majors... nuts... lactose, etc.

Maybe something was just a little off and the high histamine caused hives? Or the food could have been contaminated with something it shouldn´t normally contain. I´ve got a bit of everything: pollen allergies, some nuts (including the big one: peanuts), some (raw) veggies, some fruits, dust, wool, most furry and feathered friends, some drugs, some cosmetics... Oh, and of course scented candles/air "fresheners"/incense. Can confirm: better not to have them.

yikes... i can't imagine growing up without PB&J sandwiches... :)
my mom always knew she had a go-to lunch for me.

i used to have a tree pollen allergy, but that got better when i moved to SoCal. there is a lot of vegetation here, but i'd have to drive quite a ways to get to a real forest.

:) Cheese and jam, cheese and ketchup, cheese and chocolate spread even! I don't think anyone in our house ate peanut butter and jelly but my mom likes peanut butter, cheese, and honey sandwiches... I like the sound of living pollen free but then I'd miss living among plenty of green stuff.

when i switched coasts, the change was very stark but after 30 years out here, it's just the opposite. driving back east now it almost seems claustrophobic being surrounded by trees and not being to see off into the distance as much.

my brother and sister were both cream cheese and jelly fans... i think cream cheese has changed a lot since then... the jalapeno or veggie infused stuff i get from the bagel store looks so much more appetizing than that old foil-wrapped white bar my mom used to buy. i remember thinking it would probably taste like lard... *yuck*.

watching a ballgame wouldn't be the the same without a bag of roasted peanuts to shell...:)

I know that feeling. The area my parents live in is quite open and I did an internship in a densely wooded area (where I lived close to where I worked) and coming home on the weekend was such a relief at first!

California is in stay-at-home mode again. not really much of a change for me since that's basically been my plan since March. i doubt if i will ever budge much from 168 until i start having more out-of-doors options.

making cauliflower and corn flour today...

cauliflower & corn flour.jpg

even without the freeze dryer, the first step is a simple way to make a better riced cauliflower than you can buy frozen.

:D at least with cauliflower most of the weight is edible. With kale literally half the weight is in the stems.
i was too lazy to get the scale out... the photo doesn't really show the under-trimming on these heads. i swear the greens weighed more than the cauliflower this time. then again, the more expensive frozen riced cauliflower seems to contain a lot more water, too. luckily not a big kale fan.

I'm not a big fan of cauliflower to begin with - broccoli stems are the best though. Kale stems... may be edible in the sense that they're not harmful but they're extremely fibrous and hard to digest. Especially raw, which is the only way I like kale. Although now I'm wondering if I should just eat the leaves raw and sauté the ribs, sliced thinly, for another meal. Maybe with onions and mushrooms. You're giving me ideas!

Cauliflower greens & kale stems are edible - in fact cauliflower leaves actually taste pretty good
well, they're already in the compost bin, so... i'll take your word for it, but the trouble is, despite they're one of the few typically plastic wrapped produce, the greens rarely look to be in very good shape. i've only had Kale a few times... still tastes like little bits of paper to me...
