~~~fitness Retreat 2005~~~
Welcome to the JP Fitness Retreat 2005 information page
When: May 13-15, 2005
Where: Little Rock, Arkansas
What: A chance to get together with your fellow workout enthusiasts from the Fitness Forum community, learn more about strength training from one of the most innovative professionals in the field, and have some fun (okay, a lot of fun) with old and new friends.
History: Jean-Paul Francoeur (the "JP" in JP Fitness) hosted the first retreat two years ago. Guys who only knew each other from message-board posts at the JP Fitness and Men's Health online forums traveled from all over the country to attend.
The weekend was such a smashing success that, by overwhelming acclamation, we vowed to do it again in 2004. This time, instead of simply sharing training information with each other, we decided to charge a small seminar fee so we could bring in up-and-coming fitness guru Bill Hartman.
We also got our first "ringer": Lou Schuler, then fitness director of Men's Health magazine and co-founder (with Adam Campbell) of the forums at menshealth.com, dropped in for the first half of the weekend.
Once again, we had a full house. Hartman's presentation on auto-regulated strength training blew everyone away, and the attendees unanimously clamored to make the JP Fitness Retreats an annual tradition.
This year's event: With the bar set so high, it was hard to come up with a way to top the 2004 retreat. We knew we'd have to get one of the top names in the industry.
That's why I'm proud to announce that this year's speaker/presenter is none other than Chad Waterbury.
I suspect very few us haven't heard of Chad. Here's a quick summary of his credentials:
Chad Waterbury is an exercise physiologist who specializes in training for strength, power and hypertrophy. He has a Master of Science degree in physiology with an emphasis on neurophysiology from the University of Arizona, as well as Bachelor of Science degrees in human biology and physical science.
As owner and operator of Chad Waterbury Strength and Conditioning in Tucson, Arizona, he has trained individuals at all levels over the past 10 years, included military special-forces personnel, powerlifters, bodybuilders, and virtually every type of athlete in between.
He practices what he preaches: Chad has achieved a double-body-weight bench press, as well as triple-body-weight lifts in the squat and deadlift. All of this was accomplished completely "raw"-no belt, bench shirt, or squat suit. But he doesn't just lift for lifting's sake. He maintains a 38-inch vertical jump, and has spent much of his life studying various forms of martial arts, including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Target-Focus Training.
In addition to all that, he writes for T-nation.com, and is a resident expert on the T-nation forums. And he still finds time to post occasionally at JP Fitness, while also writing for several magazines.
Your host: As usual, the retreat will be hosted by me, Jean-Paul, at my Little Rock fitness center on the 29th floor of the Metropolitan Tower. Along with Chad, featured guests include Lou Schuler (who was so flattered to be dubbed our very own "rock star" that he couldn't pass up a chance to return) and John Williams (the world's only archaeologist/nutrition guru).
Cost: $249 for the conference. Price does not include meals and lodging (see below).
How to sign up: To reserve your spot at the retreat, call 866-470-8520 or email jpfitnessretreat@emoneyinc.net. You'll be asked for your name, screen name (if applicable), phone number, address, email address, and a credit-card number for the conference fee.
Space is limited (if you don't believe me, ask someone who was there last year). Don't wait till the last minute to make your reservation.
Hotel: I've arranged for a group discount at the Hotel Horizon (formerly the Radisson), which is across the street from the Metropolitan Building (home of my fitness center). Call 501-374-9000 and tell the reservation desk that you'll be in town for the JP Fitness Retreat. That'll get you the group rate, $59 a night. If you want to save some money, you can also reserve half a room, and the hotel will assign you a roommate for the weekend. (If you want to share a room with someone in particular, call the hotel and reserve a room under both names; otherwise, your roommate for the weekend will be randomly selected.)
What happens when you get here: Attendees will arrive throughout the day on Friday, May 13. If you don't run into me in the hotel lobby, call me at 501-399-9355 to let me know you're here. I'll give everyone a copy of the agenda, and we'll socialize at my fitness center until everyone's ready to roll. Then we'll go have a nice dinner, and I'll show you that good ol' Southern hospitality is alive and kickin'.
I can't wait to see you all here!
If you are thinking about coming to the retreat you best make your plans now people. To get good airfare you should get them about a month out from your travel time, which means that you should get your tickets NOW! If you have to wait until closer to the event to book with me that is fine... Just make sure you get your travel taken care of before its too late.
Quick reminder... Only 15 spots left. This will be the best, muscle-building information-packed weekend you will ever encounter! When else will you get to be in a room packed with nationally recognized experts who will all blow your mind?
Here is a link to one of Chad Waterbury's recent articles:
Get rid of those CHICKEN LEGS!
A new addition to the retreat... John Williams, nutrition guru who has co-written a book with the legendary John Berardi, will also be at the party to present his latest info for melting off bodyfat. This guy practices what he preaches too.
For those of you coming to the retreat, I just learned of a surprise guest who is planning to come that will blow everyone's mind. As if Chad Waterbury weren't enough!
Unfortunately, until I get a definite "yes," I can't say who it is yet, as I don't want to build up hopes for something in case it doesn't work out. He's supposed to let me know within the week.
I just can't believe this is even a possibility. I'm still in shock at the notion of having Lou Schuler, Chad, and our mystery guest all under one roof. Suffice it to say, those of you who are coming are in for an incredible treat!
BTW... For anyone actually reading this lonely thread, JOHN BERARDI has announced that he too will be there. So now we have Waterbury, Schuler, and Berardi! Unbelievable!
Incidentally, there are 2 scholarships available for the entry fee if there are any interested guys in here. Let me know if this post even getting read and I will make the financial arrangements. You just have to get here and pay for a room ($59 a night for two nights... You can share a room as well and halve the cost).
I've been reading, and I would love to go, but the summer semester calls! Think you could post how it went and make me feel like I 'sort-of' attended??
JP...I would definately go for the scholarship and sleep outside if I had to see the group of guys you have rounded up but that date is right in the middle of an intersession for me in my last year at the university.
Do you know if you'll have another one next year or is it to soon to tell....oh the wonders of finally being done with school.
He has to have next year, too many people can't go this year that will kill him if he doesn't - myself included.
