Fitness after 4

We love the DDR over in our house. We played it all last winter. It gives you a good workout plus learn how to dance. Let me tell you this white girl can't dance so it's great when you can do it in the privacy of your own house with nobody (or at least your family) laughing at you when you can't get the steps right. I'd love to get it back out, but it requires digging it all out. Hey, that's a good job for Greene to do plus it's a good New Year resolution.

Thanks for the idea woman. Duh..why didn't I think of that...:D

Hi missy just stopping by to say"hello":)

Well, Let's see it is the new year and I need to post my goals. The last couple of days have been intersting. I caught a head cold, sneezed and flared up the #@$% sciatica that I have been plagued with. Today is better and I should be able to exercise this evening. Here are my 2007 fitness goals:

1. Eat clean 90% of the time.
2. Eat 6 meals a day consistently.
3. Reduce body fat to 16%. I am currently at 18-19%.
4. Exercise 6 days a week.
5. Increase amount of weight I can lift by 20%.
6. Reduce caffeine to two cups of coffee per day.
7. Drink 8 glasses of water a day (I have trouble with this;-))
8. Educate my children on how to eat and live healthy.
9. Limit fast food to once a month.

I think these will be it. I am not setting a weight goal as I am nearing what I think is an ideal weight and I am not sure what that number would be based on body fat percentage. I will post my stats tomorrow. Haven't weighed myself in a while, but my pants still fit lol.

Okay so I am really getting frustrated. I wake up everytime I roll over with horrible shooting pain down my left leg. Last night was better, but it is making me so tired. My little girl is sick again and has woke me up the minute the motrin wears off every night this week. I forced myself to exercise tonight despite some discomfort. I am obviously going to have to except some level of pain. I completed 20 minutes of less than impressive cardio, did sit-ups and several other exercises I have found that are supposed to help with sciatica. Diet wise I did great except lunch. Lunch was a part of a sub, definately 400+ and not necessarly the best. Everything else has been good. I even met my water goals. I haven't measured or weighed in. I just don't need anymore frustration at this point. :(

Thanks for the encouragment everyone...

Missy, if you are in pain, take a break :/ I'm concern you might create a more serious injury. Don't you think it's better to exercise 110% than a half-ass one? I'm sure you will catch up all the loss time once you recover. Hope you are better soon.

Thanks Kiria and She for your concern, but I actually did the exercise in hopes it would help with the pain. I hate the thought of going back to the dr. I went a few months ago with sciatica and they basically said that there wasn't much anyone could do unless I had significant nerve compromise, meaning numbness and decreased deep tendon reflexes. The pain does limit my mobility to some dgree, but it is more pain than anything else. As you may have guessed it is worse this morning :-( Last time they did mention doing an MRI if the pain persisted, may have to take them up on it.

Well, let's see. I can't get into the dr's office until next week on Friday. No exercise yesterday d/t pain. I ate very well until hubby and I got into a bottle of Alta B wine (local red). Tasted great and we had a very nice evening after kiddos went to bed ;-) Today I will be recycling with my Brownie troop. I am adding a little Tylenol to my motrin regimen to see if it helps. On a good note I slept well although I don't think I moved as I woke up at 6am and couldn't roll over in bed. My plan is to do what upper body I can tolerate today.

Do you feel more pain after exercise or during? I gotta say, You are one determine woman! lol Good for you! ^^b
Although I am still concern. I hope your doctor visit come soon enough and he would be able to point you to some fixing to your pain problem.

Frustrated!

 Okay so this week has been long. My back and leg are becoming unbearable. I have pain all the time, I haven't even been able to exercise. With sitting, my left foot goes numb along the side. I see the dr tomorrow, but I am not sure what they will do at this point. I am maxed out on Motrin at 800mg three times a day, plus I take tylenol in between. I refuse to take narcotics as they make me sleepy and don't really work on the pain. Sadly, I can even identify the nerve root that I have managed to compress. My own assessment is a herniated disc at L5-S1 level. The upside is my reflexes are intact and I have normal muscle strength in the leg. Sorry for whining, if anyone reading has any experience with sciatica treatment, I would love suggestions.

I'm not sure what part of the back that my mom hurt, but she had to have back surgery. After the sugery, she was laid up for a month or more and couldn't get out of bed. She couldn't even get up to walk to the bathroom. If that wasn't bad enough, right after surgery, she was told she had diabetes. The dr didn't even wait to see how she was during after the sugery. Needless to say, she wasn't a happy camper. Years (I mean years) after the surgery, she's doing fine. No problem with her back that I know of.

whining? OMG. I'd be complaining wayyyyy more than what you're doing!

Encouraging post She :D lol. I'm glad your mom is doing better at least!

My yoga teacher hurt her back and it turns out the problem is a pulled muscle - can't say which it was in mixed company. But suffice it to say it was her proctologist that made the diagnosis.

Have you been to a chiropractor? sorry if this has been covered already

Thanks guys. Sparrow, I have never been to a chiropracter. I have never had anything stick around like this. I just wish it would go away as I don't have time to even deal with it. I may try a chiropracter, but I don't think I could get anyone to see me without medical clearance. Every symptom I have is related to nerve root compression :-( Thanks for the positive side She. Did anyone ever tell you guys that health care providers make lousy patients? They are right :) I hate having anything wrong with me, and I hate to see anyone for medical advise..........

I ask because I had a friend who had chronic sciatica for a long time. You reminded me with the numbness part...that she would complain of that sooo much. She saw a chiro for a period of time and is now pain free. It might be worth trying!

as we age, we know everything . . . . .
