Fit by 60! - TomO's Pledge

Seeing 220 in numbers on your scale must have been quite a buzz! OMG soon it will be teens on there! How great to see you making all this happen!

I hope you have fun on your bike again this weekend. :)

Well, the 220's didn't last very long -- back up to 222.4 this morning. Still, the "teases" are lower than they were in August, and the "scale god revenges" are not as high. I think I have a real chance of breaking through the 220's for good this month.

Had a nice ride this morning - 44.7 miles, 2 hrs. 55 min., 2,525 calories.

I went up the inside road at Torrey Pines, which is a 6 to 8% grade, 2 miles long. Man, was that exhausting. I felt like quitting almost all the way up, but kept forcing myself to go just a bit more. My heart was beating steady at 161 bpm, and I was panting like a locomotive. The hikers walking up on the road ahead of me turned their head to see what was making so much noise.

Getting up a steep hill on a bent is not at all like a regular bike. You can't step on the pedal for leverage. So it's all in the legs, every single inch of it. It's something like doing 200 squats in a row.

I see you're still kicking butt. I'm sorry I've been so scarce lately. Between the cold and school starting I've had a definite lack of time and energy for posting. I'm going to try and change that this week.

I don't see my weight as fluctuating in the way you do yours but I do see my home scales showing those bounce around numbers. I'm rather in the same position as you when it comes to seeing those new numbers and yet not being able to rely on them at first. Yet it does mean something when the new lower-than-ever-before number pops up there!! Soon you will be seeing always teen numbers on the scales! What a blast!! :D

:eek::eek: OMG :eek::eek:

It's a good thing to have very strong legs. We do have everything else depending on them.

:D Good for you Tom!!

Canon, I understand completely -- I'm in exactly the same situation.

Thanks, Felici. After bouncing up to 223 on the weekend, I'm back down to 220.8 this morning. It sure would be nice to hit the teens just once this month!

Sorry I haven't been around lately -- huge deadline at work, and I've gotta meet it.

Even though I'm too busy to stay in here for more than a few seconds, I had to record the good news. Weight this morning:

219.6

Wow Tom, glad you shared the good news with us! Excellent job.

When you have time to respond, how do you measure your body fat %?

Take good care :)

Blancita, Steve, and Felici -- Thanks!

The database is down right now, so I have a few moments of free time. :)

Hi Tom, keep fighting 'em scales. As Cannon says - the teens will be back tomorrow!
I noticed a comment you had on Steve's thread about cramping... you may know this or have it figured out but bananas are rich in potassium and are good at preventing cramping :) Also baked potatoes (with skin), prunes, raisins, lima beans and spinach :) Hey - who said you couldn't eat your troubles away! Hope this helps?

You hit the teens and I missed it, DAMN, DAMN!! Well, I have a feeling come Monday, we will see a permanent teen weigh in, that will stay around. Your doing it exactly how it should happen, a pound ever few weeks or so, it's sure to stay off of you and never come back. I bet your looking better than ever too.:p Are you biking this weekend? How's the weather there? It's gorgeous here, highs in low 80's and lows in the upper 50's just perfect in my book.

You'll be back in the teens tomorrow. Congrats Tom.
Thanks, Cannon. I hope so!

Thanks, Rachie. Yeah, I eat about 2 bananas a day, and take an electrolyte supplement called Thermolyte. I also eat a couple of cups of yogurt on biking days to replace lost calcium. I also take an extra vitamin pill. So far, nothing's worked perfectly, but I'll keep experimenting.

Hi Kim. Well, I'm getting skinnier, but hair is getting grayer, too!

I went 42 miles this morning at a pretty good clip - 18.5 mph. My legs were feeling great when I started, but I made the mistake of not taking my electrolyte supplement after the first hour. About an hour and a half into the ride, I was at a light, waiting to make a left turn, and just as I got the arrow, my calf totally cramped up - so bad I couldn't even get my foot in the clip. The drivers looking at me must have been wondering why I couldn't get going. Every time I tried to raise my leg and push off, it felt like someone hit my calf with an axe. Finally I got going, but next time I'm going to remember to take those supplements!

I'll probably do another 35 mile ride tomorrow, and then take the rest of the weekend off.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Hi there Tom,

sorry I didn't get to drop into your diary earlier, but you know the feeling of being nervous when entering into "unknown lands?" ha! Once again, thank you for that write up in my introduction. (Even if it was a couple months late. ;)) It honestly made me a bit homesick and yes, I called my father. haha I wanted to congratulate you on the amazing weight loss so far and here's to losing even more, doll! A hui hou, ko'u hoa'aloha malihini.
