Fit by 60! - TomO's Pledge

Just a wild guess, but I'd guess that maybe the weight training got the kinks out, brought in more blood to the area, and boosted your endorphins a bit. How's that for a totally unscientific explanation? :D

No that's great! It works for me. Have a fabulous weekend, the reconciliation with the BF went well, and I had a fabulous dinner. Enjoy your team bike ride, that's going on, yes? I'll have to check...Ok it's on Monday then. Have fun!!

KIM: I want to go to Rogue's Manor really badly now. When I get enough $$ and care less about $$$ and visit you, we'll go there with your man and have fun. I don't mind being a third wheel!!! :D :beerchug:

Tom, whenever you go to San Francisco let me know via email. I'm going there Sunday with Lucas to enjoy the time, with the Japanese Tea Gardens in mind. We're taking public transpo, though--fuck the traffic! Also they close the Bay Bridge on holidays! WTF?!?!

You must be getting close to some tantalizing numbers by now, Tom. As an onlooker it's seemed like a lot of twenties have whizzed by.

I hope the bike club turned out well for you. It sounds like a great way to spend the holiday.

HAHAHAHHAHA Some days I feel like super mom, does that count?
LOL, SuperMom will do just fine!

Valerie - hope you had a great time in SF!

Thanks, Felice . . . see below. . .

First, my weight - 221.0. I got this low on Aug. 18th, but this time I feel like it's more indicative of where I'll be for the next couple of weeks. The teens are getting close!

Well, I started out yesterday with great intentions. I tightened all the bolts on my bike, made sure my pack was filled with the right nutrients for a long ride, rechecked the pressure in my tires. I was supposed to meet the bike club in Oceanside, 18 miles from my house, at 7:45. I got there at 7:30 and didn't see anyone, so I rode around the area casually for a few minutes.

Then I felt the awful feeling of a flat. This really pissed me off, since I had just had a flat 2 days before. Here was another one, and once again on the back, where it's a hassle to remove the tire. So I get out all my tools, get chain grease all over me (I'm not that experienced in removing the back wheel yet), and replace the tube. By this time it's already above 80 degrees outside, so the sweat is just pouring down my face. Then, just as I get the repaired tire in place, the pad comes off my rear disk brake. Crap! Now I only have one spare tube left, and no rear brake.

So I decide to call it a day. I ride back home fairly carefully, quite conscious that my braking power is only at 50%. I ride to my local bike shop, where I see a sign on the door, "Open at 10". So I wait 30 minutes, figuring I can leave the bike there, and walk home, even though it's close to 90 degrees now. A half hour later, I go back to the shop, and it's still closed. Crap! Then I realize it's Labor Day -- they're closed today, duh.

I rode home and cooled off. Only went 39.5 miles, but in that heat, that was still a pretty good workout. I was almost glad I had the flat, because it would have been well into the 90's had I gone on the rest of the ride.

That afternoon, we went with some friends to see a great documentary, "No End in Sight." I recommend everyone see this movie. It's very well done, and if you want to know why things are so screwed up in Iraq now, this documentary will answer a LOT of those questions.

I know :)

Thanks though!
I'm getting a little sick of my squats and deadlifts, so I do them first thing in my routine, diligently.
My neck was sore and tired yesterday at work. When I weight trained, it miraculously felt better which I think is counterintuitutive. What do you have to say about THAT?

Switch things up Val.

You don't ALWAYS have to do squats and deadlifts.

Long weekend, eh Steve?
LOL, posting in the wrong diary -- you need a break!

Wait! I need a break! That WAS the right diary! Sorry!

Tom, sorry to hear about your bike troubles the other day. Funny how things sort of end up working out anyhow, as you could've been in a bad place riding all day with the club with temps in the 90's as you mentioned. That sounds dangerous in the hot sun. 37 miles is crazy to begin with. I just dont know where you get the energy or inclination, but I think its great.

Thanks Val and Blancita. I'm hoping to get my bike in the shop today, so I can ride again!

One nice thing about the riding is that I can have a sweet now and then without worrying about it. Yesterday I had an almond croissant that was incredibly good. :)

Mmmh croissants I love them... sucks being wheat intolerant!!!

You mean a bike bike? Or a bicycle? I love cycling - since I got my bike I've cycled everywhere :)

Bike trouble, DRATS!! hopefully you can get the bike up and running real soon! Oh and we ended up picking up some scotch, I want to say it was Glenndfitch, I know that's not right, but it sounds like that. HAHAHHA Well, our friend just LOVED it and he was quite happy when we brought it over for him. I guess it's good stuff, I don't know. I'm a wine girl after all. LOL LOL

LOL, my wife won't let me get a bike. I keep telling her it's not much more dangerous than a bicycle. She won't hear of it. So I'll have to be content cycling on a bicycle. :)

Hi, Kim. I'm taking it in tonight, and they say they can get me fixed up pretty quickly. I'm going to have a wider tire put on the back, so that I don't get so many "pinch" flats. Right now, the tires I have now are only 1" wide, and with 220 lbs., plus, the weight of the frame, that's a lot of weight on those skinny tires. They think I'll do much better with the bigger tire.

Glenfiddich is a great scotch, not my favorite, but up there.

One day, I'm going to take the "Single Malt Tour" in Scotland. Apparently, the one I like, Dalwhinnie, is from the highest distillery in the country. I want to see for myself!

Maybe I could do the tour on a bike!

I think those bigger tires are a good idea! I'm sure that will help, and you will have less flats. WOW a trip to Scotland, OH MY that would be so much fun!! I sure hope you get to do that some day! Can you stow me away in a BIG BAG or something. What are you doing for cardio while your bikes in the shop?

I'm agreeing with the other comments about the Labor Day ride (which BTW I think you got!!)

Good luck with the new tires.

Scotland is very pretty, and a million years ago when I was there they had a heap of teeny skinny roads that would better fit a bike than a car - but remember to pack your wet weather gear in that BIG BAG along with Kim.

Ah, biking through Scotland with a Single malt in one hand. Sounds good!

You know that beer, Fat Tire? I suppose it's for heavier, beer drinkers--and it is, too, because while a normal beer is 150 calories per 12 oz, Fat Tire is 300 calories per 12 oz!!! Twice as much! A freaking pint is 400 calories!!
