Fit by 60! - TomO's Pledge

Tom & Cannon, you are two men after my heart!! I LOVE MY RED WINE, white gives me a headache! Even though I will drink white every now and again, I drank white while in Eureka Springs a few weeks ago, they didn't carry to many good reds. Okay, you both got me pumped up to stop by the liquor store on my way home and grab a few bottles. I'll enjoy a glass for you both this evening!! I hope you two have a wonderful day today!
Kim

Wow, beautiful place, Kim. What kind of Scotch? :)
Most white wine gives me a headache, too.

Weight today: 221.6 - still in the right place. Yesterday I did my Weights A and WEights B routine all in the same afternoon, since I missed weights on Monday because of the car troubles. UGGHH! After 55 minutes and 530 calories, I was totally wiped out. I maxed out on a bunch of the exercises. I'm not sure if it was because I was tired, or just getting older. :)

This morning I took my usual bikeride to Oceanside Pier and back -- 33 miles, 1,500 calories, 1hr. 58 min., 16.8 mph avg. It was a gorgeous day, and the waning moon was setting on the horizon. What a great way to start the day!

No big plans for Labor Day, although I am going to take my first ride with a bicycle club on Monday. They're going from Oceanside to San Onofre - 40 miles round trip. I have to meet them in Oceanside, so I'll be adding on an extra 35 miles to my ride. So I guess I'll call that one a metric century plus.

I'm looking forward to it; it's the first time riding with a group for me. It'll be interesting to see how they react to the 'bent.

Hope everyone has a great holiday weekend!

You are absolutely insane to ride the 35 miles just to meet up with them (roundtrip I assume)? Sounds like a great idea to ride with a bike club. Did you find the club on the internet? I have no fun plans for this weekend either except meeting up with my girlfriend on Sat, so I'll probably pathetically be on here.

You know Tom, I wish I could remember what the guys were buying that night. They had a HUGE list of scotch's and I think the guys tried 2 different ones. One I remember they said was super smooth and was really good, the other had a bit of a bite to it. I'll have to ask my hubby and email you on that one later. I actually had a Pinot Grigot that night, I picked a bottle everyone would like, and they did. :) I will say that bottle of wine was like 38.00 bucks, they had some on that menu for 75-90 dollars, I was like WHAT?? But it was so nice! I'm so jealous of all your gorgeous views when bike riding, you are truly lucky!

LOL, well, it's a real hassle to get my 8 foot long bike into my 7 foot long car, so it's easier just to ride there. Yes, it's only 17.5 miles each way. I found them on the net, and I emailed them first to make sure they're "bent friendly". Some bikers can't stand 'bents -- they think they're not "real" bikes, whatever that means.

One of these days I'll have to bring my camera and take some pics!

What's wrong with wine by the glass?

The price.

"By the glass" is an industry term. For example, R****** Chardonnay is $240 / case wholesale, $20 a bottle, say 4 glasses to a bottle so a glass is $5. At a restaurant it is typically $12 a glass, sometimes more. Expensive!

I bet I could make you like white wine.

WHHHHHHooooooooooooeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!! a group ride, YAY!!! Fun fun fun!!--Can't wait to hear about it, hope no Southern California assholes are rude to you!

LOL, you probably could! Actually, the best wine I ever had was a white wine - a 1953 Chateau D'Yquem. I drank it around 1978. Unbelievable.

Well I'm getting SOFT in my old age....
but I decided to up my weight training days to maybe 3 days a week. I was reading Shape, and these success stories about women my height and below my goal weight--OLDER than me! I checked out their routine and they did weights six days a week!! JEEBUS! I knew weights were the secret to loss.....
what do you have to say about that?

I wouldn't trust anything in any of those mags. The idea of doing weight training six days a week, while you are in a caloric deficit, is insane to me. 3 times a week is plenty.

As far as the "secret" to weight loss, I think it's mainly finding a balanced program of weight training and cardio that you LIKE to do. And I don't worry too much about whether my program is perfect. I'm sure it's not totally optimal; in fact, with my 2 hour bike rides, I KNOW it's not. But I love those bike rides, so I'm gonna keep doin' 'em! :) And optimal would be doing squats and deadlifts, but I'm sick of screwing up my back. If I had Steve as a personal trainer, and he were right here, I might go back to them. But no PT's in my gym know squat about squats, so I'm just leaving them out of my routine for now.

In other words, if you like doing weights 3x / wk., and you like running, then I say go for it! You're a lot better off doing a program you like and doing something you can really stick with, than doing something you don't like, and will likely drop in a year or two.

I know :)

Thanks though!
I'm getting a little sick of my squats and deadlifts, so I do them first thing in my routine, diligently.
My neck was sore and tired yesterday at work. When I weight trained, it miraculously felt better which I think is counterintuitutive. What do you have to say about THAT?

I agree with you Tom 100% on the issue of finding a program YOU LIKE and sticking with it, for life! That's what weight loss and healthy living is all about. I don't think anyone needs 6 days of weight training that's just damn insane! And really, in all honesty how many people in the world do you see sticking to a 6 day a week weight program, it's just not likely. I'm talking every day people like us, not body builders or athletes. You find what works for "you" and you stick with it! You have to LOVE what you do, or it wont work. And I love cardio and I don't care if I do 2 hours of cardio in a night at the gym, it works for me and I feel great afterwords. There is another opinion from Kim, that's not worth a hoot, but that's why it's only my opinion right. LOL LOL I love this place!:rotflmao: :rotflmao:

Just a wild guess, but I'd guess that maybe the weight training got the kinks out, brought in more blood to the area, and boosted your endorphins a bit. How's that for a totally unscientific explanation? :D
