Fit by 60! - TomO's Pledge

Oh and no harm, no foul--just play it cool! Almost everyone at the brewery rides his bike....instead of driving......better a bike than a ton of metal.

Hmmm. . . I wonder if it's possible to gain 42 pounds in 2 weeks, just from eating lava cake and drinking single malt. Let's see. . . that would mean eating an extra 10,500 calories a day -- equivalent to about 1 quart of single malt, plus 16 pieces of lava cake per day. Whew, that's a tall order!

anything worth doing is worth doing well... put your back into it and i'm sure you'll manage it...

however the triple bypass might cause other problems

OH NO, NO, NO!! Stop NOW!! Maybe ONE Scotch and one small slice of cake, AND......... 10 miles on the bike. That will be just fine. We don't want to see ONE pound go up on your scale, I don't!!! :jump:

Well, the first day of my single malt and lava cake 10,500 calorie a day surplus diet is not going so well.

Marlene had the car, so I thought I'd take my bike in search of some single malt and lava cake. I looked and looked, and by the time I reached Del Mar, I gave up and went back home. By the time I arrived home, I had been cycling for 1 hour and 55 minutes. I went 28.8 miles and burned 1,152 calories. I had an average speed of 15.0 mph, and an average heart rate of 122 (72% of max). On the hills I got up to 152 (90% of max).

And now, to top it all off, it looks like today, instead of having a 10,500 calorie surplus, I'm going to end up with a deficit of 800 calories or so. If I keep this up, on my birthday, I'll have to eat about 40 lbs. of lava cake in one sitting, along with 10 or 15 bottles of single malt.

It looks like your focus may have drifted away a little there, Tom. I wonder if it would help if you wrote single malt and lava cake on a card and stuck it up on your bathroom mirror. Perhaps you could try reciting your goal aloud before you get on your bike next time....

Lots of luck!

My legs feel a lot better. Had some cramping last night, in my instep of all places, but the old quads are feeling OK again. Today is Weights 3 day - upper body - so they'll get a rest anyway.

Tomorrow we're seeing the Dead Sea Scrolls at the San Diego Natural History Museum in the morning, so I won't be able to go on a long ride -- unless I can pull one off in the afternoon. We'll see how things go.

I think that's what they call aversion therapy :) make you overdose on something so you'll never want it again :) I vaguely recall an episode with rum in college that made me never want to go near that vile stuff ever again :D

Morning Tom!! Are you kidding?? You biked for almost two hours, HOT DIGGIDY DOG!! That's ummmmm quite amazing in my book. :eek2: No wonder you have leg cramps, I would be in traction for a least a day. And you think I'm the workout machine, I don't think so! Hey if you get on your bike today and hustle your buns over, you might make it to Oklahoma before the end of the month. Your truly inspiring Tom, keep up the great work. I truly hope you make it to your goal weight by your birthday!!
Kim

LOL, I had exactly the same experience with rum - and gin -- and vodka. Fortunately, I never had that experience with scotch, and of course, it would be a felony to do it with a good single malt. I'm hoping to get a bottle of Dalwhinnie on my bday. . . we'll see.

LOL, you sure crack me up, Kim. I can just see me trying to get over the Rockies. That would take about 3 years.

Hey Tom-I sure love your humor!! Nice bike ride, I'm going to have to ride after my weights today. Ooooh, I LOVE museums--dammit if only I was rich, I'd fly down there so we could look at the Dead Sea scrolls together.

I didn't know what Lava cake was......I never had it! Now I want it! YUM!

Good morning Tom...hope your instep feels better....that sounds VERY painful! Sounds like you are on your way to your birthday goal weight!
