Fit by 60! - TomO's Pledge

Hey Tom, glad to see youre still going strong. and with a new recruit to boot perhaps? This past weekend was the first time my gf has been in town since i started changing things, and i took the time to explain to her what i was doing, and show her the fitday program, and let her have a look into how i was planning things. she was pretty excited about how i was doing it, and i think that I am leading by a good example for her. She is barely overweight, really only needs to lose maybe 10 pounds or so to be in the ideal range, but she wants to be healthy, and this lifestyle we choose really centers around that aspect. you said yourself, vanity is a good motivator, but fear is far better, and her and i both fear being like some of our family members and having health issues down the road. it feels pretty good to have others take notice of what you are doing and then want to change themselves because you inspire them. but then again, im sure youre already plenty familiar with that feeling, lol.

OH MY GOSH TOM, I'm away for a few days and you go and get skinny on me. That's just great!! Of course I knew it was going to happen, you work out so hard, there is NO WAY you could stay at that higher amount for long. YEAH!!! I'm so happy for you!! Maybe we can get the gods to help me out a little now! I guess that BONFIRE I did for you really worked!! YES!

220s by your birthday? Don't be governed by a calendar because your body won't be, but I definitely think you can do it. As Coach said, you really do set a great example for us guys.

Hi Tom! I vote that this round is OVER!!!! Congrats on that 229!!!!! YEAH! :D

Glad you had a good Father's Day and high five for Marlene on her hour of cardio!!!

That is a really good point Cannon. I thought the cals in v. out thing was so exact until I hit my plateau, which I've been on for about three weeks before I even joined this forum back in early May I think. On the other hand, Tom you have such wonderful things happening in the matter of health so the scale number isn't as important. Needless to say, however, it SURE IS NICE when it goes DOWN DOWN DOWN. Here's hoping you get your b-day gift :)!

So does that mean that Marlene is now on board with healthy eating and weight loss? Is she exercising too?

Looks like you are doing great and the new plan is treating you well.

Hi, Steve. Yes, the new plan is working great, though by the 6th straight day in the gym, I'm pooped! Glad to hear you had such a great weekend. Only a few more weeks now. . .

Hey, Coach, I think I do have a new recruit. Marlene is going gung ho -- in fact, I had to talk her out of doing two hours a day in the gym, trying to get her to understand that exhausting herself wouldn't do any good. She's already lost a couple of pounds and is learning a bunch just by using FitDay every day.

I try not to inspire too many people, LOL. To the extent that people emulate the good stuff I do, that's great, but I hope they don't pick up my demons at the same time. :)

Thanks, Kim, that bonfire DID do the trick. I've got my fan on full blast to blow some of that precious smoke back your way, though by the time it reaches you, it may be a bit diluted. Skinny??????? LOLOLOL. The only place I look skinny is at the San Diego County Fair, when I go to those trick mirrors that eliminate your waist. At least that part of me is no longer the size of a Swiss ball -- just the size of a basketball now. :)

Cannon, I'm not banking on being there by next month, but if the scale gods and GOM have any compassion at all, they will let it happen.

No, this time I'm going to wait the full five days. Last Round, I declared my victory a bit prematurely, and retribution from the scale gods and GOM was swift and terrible.

I'll pass on your support to Marlene. Hopefully you can meet her in person in July.

'grats on reaching the next decade... that's wonderful...

Thanks, Mal. I'm not sure I've truly reached it yet - more like stuck my toe in the water. But it's a nice feeling!

Thanks, Cita. I'm kind of worried about how long my Rounds will last once I'm as close to my goal as you are to yours. Right now, I'm still far away enough where the pounds come off, stubbornly, but they do come off.

Yes, Marlene is exercising her butt off, literally and figuratively. And she's watching every calorie, running a deficit of around 600 calories a day. She's already dropped a couple of pounds. I'm very proud of her.

OK -- here's my exercise log for today:

Weights, Day 2. 35 minutes, 470 calories.
Cardio, Step Mill, 30 minutes, 500 calories.

The squat/deadlift superset is getting more exhausting. I went up to 200 lbs. on the squat for the 3 x 5's, and used 75 lb dumbbells on the Romanian deadlift. On the 1 x 8's, I dropped to 190 on the squats, but kept with the 75 lb db's on the deads. By the end of those supersets, I'm pretty pooped.

Well if the 229 doesn't officially count yet, I will save my congratulations but I'm really glad to hear that it's on its way.

How truly good for you and Marlene to be sharing healthy meals and extra exercise. That's very special.

Thanks Kelly & Felici. Like I told Mal, I really just stuck my toe in the water. But the water feels nice, and I can't wait to go swimming!

Rest day today, Tom?
Impressive cals used yesterday.. And I only wish I could do your weights someday. Yeah, yeah, we all have dreams... My muscle balance is so bad that I have maybe one or two muscles that are relatively strong and the rest have never heard of what they should do.. Maybe when I'm sixty? ;)

No, tomorrow is only day 5 - steady state cardio day for around 1,000 calories, followed on Wednesday by an upper body weights session. Then, on Thursday, it's a rest day again.

Yes, it's true, you have to wait until you're sixty to get really strong! :D

Weight: 229.0 - Double Holy Cow! OK, I'm not declaring victory over Mr. Plateau in Round 5 yet, but he is lying on the floor there, bloody and not moving. He has 24 hours to stir, and if he doesn't, Round 5 is a definite win - in just 27 days.

Food yesterday was a tad on the high side, at 2,900 calories:
Fat: 91 gm, 27%; 21 gm saturated, 6%
Carbs: 374 gm, 49%; 43 gm fiber
Protein: 144 gm, 19%
Alcohol: 19 gm, 5%

We went to our close friends' house for lunch and had a wonderful, and big, meal there. The maid dish was very healthy - talapia and scallops, quinoa salad, and tomatoes. But before I ate too many peanuts, and afterward they brought out these French pastries that were just too good to pass up. And, of course, there was first class wine. So my lunch alone was 1,729 calories. I made up for it at dinner, when I had a banana and some smoked oysters on toast, for a grand total of 399 calories.

The saving grace was the workout, which got rid of 970 calories. That, plus my NARM of 2,368 calories, meant I ended the day with a deficit of 438 calories, giving me an accumulated deficit of 8,495 calories in Round 5, and 4,316 calories month to date.

Today is Marlene's and my 33rd anniversary of the day we met. I still love her just as much as then, though in a deeper more spiritual way. We haven't had a fight in over 15 years -- it could be close to 20 years, I guess. I can't keep track anymore. I consider myself to be one of the luckiest guys on the planet for those years and our two wonderful kids who resulted from it.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!

That is what I want when I'm your age. No fights, pure love. Sigh!

I'm so happy for you getting into the 220s!! Remember a few weeks ago how bummed you were and I said that your weight would drop, just you wait? Eh? EH? Nice for motivating Marlene!! Happy belated Father's Day!
