Fit by 60! - TomO's Pledge

A day off = hiking... lol. For me, hiking is so hard! I'm not so good with going up hills and things like that. I am so out of shape when it comes to certain things and that's definately one of them. I do plan on hiking with my bf in the summer though, and hopefully I'll improve to the point where it's not horrible, lol.

Sounds nice to me either way! Is the weather going to be nice for your weekend?? Does your daughter live close by?

Typically here we have what is called "May Gray" and "June Gloom", but so far this month, it's been very clear, with no marine layer. Temps are in the 70's, and expected to be that way through the weekend.

That's one of the reasons I like the step mill (the one that looks like an escalator). It really helps you with hiking.

Weight: 234.2 - Now, that's what I'm talkin' about!

This was a nice surprise awaiting me this morning. I was so good yesterday, it hurt. Food & drink was 5 out of 5 in quality, with a total of 2,275 calories:
Fat: 79 gm, 31%; 16 gm saturated, 6%
Carbs: 224 gm, 36%; 36 gm fiber
Protein: 143 gm, 25%
Alcohol: 19 gm, 6%

I had a NARM of 2,366 calories, plus 1,070 calories burnt off in my steady state cardio, so I ended the day with a whopping deficit of 1,161 calories, giving me a month to date deficit of 4,553 calories, and an accumulated deficit of 11,383 calories for this plateau.

Is the plateau over? Truthfully, I don't know yet. But here's what happened twice in the past. In the middle of the plateau, I'd get a teaser reading from the scale gods, just to make me pant. I get all excited about that, and then the scale gods punish me, and make me wait up to two more weeks, until I have an accumulated deficit of between 12,000 and 13,000 calories. Then they take pity on me and let the scale drop a couple of pounds -- until the next round.

If I really have dropped, this would certainly follow the pattern so far, although this time the plateau would be only 27 days instead of 36 days. I'm not going to celebrate yet, though. But if I'm still in this range by Monday, I'm going to declare victory over this plateau and move on to the next one.

Congrats on the loss sir! Good for you! I agree with cannon..if you haven't broken the plateau...you're DEFINITELY on your way!

Hey Tom, I won't say "congrats" on breaking past your plateau..cause given your determination that part is inevitable...but as always, props to you for your attitude through-out the "waiting period". One thing I'm curious about, you seem to notice a pattern in when a plateau is ending...I'm wondering if you also notice a pattern leading up to one. For instance a certain amount of pounds lost, or bodyfat% down, or number of weeks/months in between?

Thanks, Cym. Well, here's the chart:

The only pattern that I can really discern is that once I drop the 2 or 3 pounds, things suddenly level off. That's why I'm not absolutely certain I've broken this plateau -- It's not looking quite like the other ones.

LOL, Yes, actually I take a day off at least once a week, and sometimes every four days. I'm planning to take this Saturday off, so that I can go on a long hike with my daughter. :)

I'm very sorry TomO, but going on a "long hike" does NOT count as a day off. I used to do these 10 mile hikes and they were absolutely grueling!

GREAT NEWS ON THE DROP, TOM! CONGRATS!

I was thinking along those same lines this morning after I weighed, Tom...I looked at my calendar and on the 6th, the scales dipped down to 151.4 but have been at 152 since then....despite my hard work! I just realized as I wrote this that that was only 5 days ago...but it feels like forever! Last time, mine dropped 2 pounds at one time after dragging on....so I am hopeful too, that on Monday, I will be lighter! :)

Awesome Tom, way to go! How much of a drop was it? Though at this point even .1 is great in my book. :rotflmao:

Maybe it was that greater than 1,000 cal deficit of yesterday that finally did it? On that note, I'm heading down to my elliptical in a second. I've already burned 200 cals and plan on burning another 300 shortly. If I can get myself off this darn forum! :jump:

LOL, well yesterday I was at 236.8; today I'm at 234.2 -- so I dropped 2.6 pounds in a single day. If that doesn't convince anyone not to get too freaked out about day to day readings, I don't know what will.

Now go burn those calories, and get off this damned forum!

Thanks, Beth.

5 days? - That is what we pros call a "beginner's plateau."

yeah, yeah, yeah...I am experienced in the art of longer plateaus, too...my last one was weeks! But being the optimist, I am hppeful that this one will not drag on as long... a girl can dream, can't she? :)

I'm glad you dropped a few! And your macros are excellent from yesterday! Great job! You are slowly and steadily dropping weight--no problem! (except for the leveling off, but that's ok!)

Workout Log - 5/11/2007

Thanks, Valerie. I'll feel more confident about this drop if it stays off through the weekend.

I was clearly fatigued today. This would have been my off day, but I wanted tomorrow to be the off day instead, so I could take a hike with my daughter. My workout schedule is pretty intense, though, and by the 5th day, my body starts to shut down. It's not that I did any worse than last time on this particular workout, but I didn't make any improvements either. By the end of the workout I was a lot more pooped than usual, too.
