Fit by 60! - TomO's Pledge

Speaking of biggest loser.....

I was curious too what happened to the contestants. I did a little searching and found some interesting results.

A lot actually did manage to keep it off and are currently touring around America and Australia giving motivational seminars. Several others have gone into modelling and advertising of health related (and not) products. A few have become personal trainers themselves. But yes, some, including the first season's Biggest Winner have gained back all the weight and more. I guess that 250,000 buys a lot of unhealthy food. Adro, last years winner in Australia can be found on Youtube if you search. He is in the process of making a film documenting the many surgeries he is going to require to remove all the excess skin. Should be very interesting.

I am currently watching Aussies Biggest now and wow, some of those people have really transformed themselves in a short time. I just wrote a little blurb in "weight loss in the media" if anyone wants to read more on my thought about the show.

And Tom, I am with you. I aint got much to look at in the belly area (or too much depending how you look at it) But I have got legs that make my cyclist and body building buddies green with envy. If the rest of my body matched my calves I think I could safely fall under the "greek god" category..... Working on it....

As for the earlobes..... people noticed you lost weight in your earlobes???

sirant

LOL. I have been known to exaggerate at times. :D

Thanks for the insights on Biggest Loser. Can you imagine losing all that weight and then gaining it back again? What a bummer!

Wait! I have done that myself about six times.

Hi Kelly, hope you have a great evening!

So, I get out of bed this morning, ready to face my maker - the scale.

I'm preparing myself -- day #36 on plateau #2.

I tell myself, "Don't think about the scale, think about the other good things . . ."

I shave, knowing that every ounce will count.

I trim my nose hairs, just to get that extra edge.

And then . . .

242.0!

OK, I know it may go back up tomorrow. I know I shouldn't focus that much on just a number. But after 35 days on a plateau, this was a welcome sight!

Yeah, all you young whipper-snappers out there are probably thinking, "Geez, what's all the fuss about? I lose a pound a week, and this old geezer's crowing about 2 pounds in 35 days? Give me a break!"

All I can say is, it's good you're fighting this now, because otherwise you, too, will get to my age and be relegated to the realm of pathetic celebrations of minor victories.

But me -- I'm happy as a clam. :D :D :D

Today's my off day, so I took a 4 mile leisurely walk along the beach at sunrise. Gorgeous, and not a soul on the sand with me.

Last night, I guess Marlene got tired of my cooking, and she wanted to go out. I felt like challenging myself, so I suggest Soup Plantation, which is one of those all you can eat places, except that you really can eat healthy there if you try.

After all my entering stuff in FitDay, I realized that what kills you at these places is their pre-made salads slathered with high calorie dressing, the loaded baked potatoes, the yummy buttered garlic bread, the smoothie ice cream over chocolate cake. You can easily fool yourself that you're eating "healthy" when in fact your downing 2,500 calories or so.

I loaded my plate with a base of spinach leaves, and added to that radishes, celery, green peppers, broccoli, jicama, and a host of other veggies. They had little 2 oz. packets of grilled skinless chicken, so I got a couple of those. Then I poured some pure olive oil into one container and vinegar into another. For soup, I had a small bowl of barley and pinto bean soup. Water for my drink. All that came up to 1,200 calories. Marlene got some ice cream and cake, but I wasn't even that tempted.

I was going to work out today, becuase the plateau was driving me nuts. However, I find that three days of intensive exercise just wears out my legs, and by the 4th day, I really do need a rest. So I think I'll stick to my 3 days on, 1 day off schedule.

242 after trimming the nose hairs? Wow Tom, those nasal hairs have been holding you back!! How long were those suckers?! ;) haha.
Seriously though Congratulations! That is FANTASTIC! Finally!!! Hope you only continue to see the downward trend from now on! :) Have a wonderful day! Rach.

Kelly, Steve, Mal, Rachie -- thank you all!

The support I've had on this forum is one of the things that's helped me through this miserable plateau.

You are f---ing hilarious!! I love reading your posts. I'm so happy for you--but we all saw it coming! God, how could that meal be 1,200 calories??!! Good for you for walking--walking is something humans are supposed to do, and have done, everyday, for thousands of years. Nice choice for your day off!!! I'm so happy for you!

I shared some of your joy today, for my scale said 140.5 lbs! :D I haven't seen that on my scale since September 2002!! YAY! Hapy Day!

Thanks for all your support!

Woo hooo glad to hear the good news... now in the past would you have stuck with it? or given up? if the answer is yes you would have... then thats another thing that has definately shown improvement, will power and dedication.

You will reach your goals this time Tom.

Great job!

Thanks, RJ. In the past I never had plateaus this long. But I gave up with even shorter ones. Will power and dedication, but also support and knowledge -- that's what's making the difference this time.

So this here's Tom's diary, eh? Great job on beating that Plateau! I got on this morning and it was 0.5 pounds down and I was as happy as you! Any loss is an incredibly hippy happy loss!

Congratulations on the platue BUST! haha I am very happy for you. You deserve it for sticking through the rough time. In the past those things are what made me stop trying, and now seeing you fight back and get through gives great inspiration. Keep it up.

Thanks, Paul. In the past, I would have quit myself. Of course, I don't know for SURE that I'm through it, but just getting a taste of it was pretty good.

:D Well I've been checking around about in here to see whether 242 is really worth getting so excited about, and guess what....

IT IS!!!!!!!!! :D

You've made it to your March goal already - and there's days and days of March still to go!

Your five day moving average must be showing something worth looking at. Do we get another graph pic? :)
