First stop: Spartan Turkey

Because you worked hard this week and had some hot toilet action?
The former, yes, but the latter was nothing out of the ordinary as of yesterday morning or this morning.

Anyway, here comes my friend and my enemy - the WEEKEND. Saturday is my little sister's 40th BDay (which freaks me out more than my own did - I still see her as that little punk that wanted to play in the woods with me and my friends). That means drinking and eating. I should be able to get in daily exercise, somehow, though.

Rest of the weekend should be normal, but my mother-in-law is in town, and she tends to drag all activities to 75% of their normal performances. I need to remember that and compensate for it (e.g. eat well in case she offers to buy us ice cream) and fight it (e.g. get me to the rowing machine or weights when the compulsion is there to loaf around and chit chat).

She's nice, but we're definitely cut from different cloths. My cloth wants to get things done in a timely manner. Her cloth wants to spend 4 hours browsing around the Christmas Tree Shops.

So other than beer consumption, my Saturday was pretty good. Yesterday was not the case, though, wife worked the whole day and I had to keep the kids happy, which was mostly successful.

I did row on Friday - 30 minutes straight at the "Anaerobic Threshold" for my age, around 150 bpm. The rest of my weekend was slogging party supplies up and down basement stairs.

That's about all I have today!

Forgot to weigh in this morning, but yesterday was good: I ate well, rowed a 3x10 at a good pace and learned a little about Bielski brothers during WW2.

All-day meeting, so I won't have time to play ketchup on others' diaries!

"Anaerobic Threshold"
Im gonna start a rockband and name it that!
Please dance to maintain 80-85% of your maximum HR
Nice job on the rowing. I think I need to start adding that to my repertoire of exercises. I know when I do row it kicks my ass!
My only complaint is sore bum, but I've been given the gift of non-existent buttocks, so I have no padding. Enjoy that image.

Another good calorie day yesterday. Exercise-wise, I just went for a walk with the family, no rowing or lifting, I just didn't have the interest. I'll lift tonight and maaaaybe do a lazy row.

I also met with an RD who gave me my new plan for diabeetus. I'm not convinced I want to do the finger pricks just yet, so I won't, but the diet plan and the stress management are laid out. I have yet to discuss with my wife, but I will tomorrow (she's working tonight, and I'm usually not too chatty by the time she gets home. It will be different than my current skip-lunch policy (not so much a policy, I'm just not too hungry until around 2 or 3 pm). Basically snack on something every 3-5 hours. I can do it easily enough during the week, weekends will be different (I know, you're all shocked).

The joys of squatting... Also kettlebell swings! And bridging. And doggy leg-lifts. Sitting on a folded towel works too, of course, but glute exercises are awesome.

Yeah, rowing's a good glute exercise, too. I've tried many, with no apparent change, not even the sore muscles. I do use a folded towel for the longer slogs, that does make a difference.
Why don't you want to do the finger pricking LJ?
Remember the conversation about terrible insurance? Well, yeah, I don't want to spend the money for now. The RD said it was up to me at my low-levels, and since I'm not seeing any changes in how I feel based on food intake, I'm probably OK without it. I have a follow-up Dr. appt in a couple months, so I'll see how my numbers look then.

I'm 3.8 lbs down from last Thursday, which gets me back to the 2 lbs/week goal, though it's a somewhat inconsistent track (2.13 in bold is the average, then it's a per-week thing):
Weekly Loss
2.13
1.80
0.40
4.60
0.00
6.00
1.00
1.40
0.20
3.80

Anyway, as long as it's going the right way, right? Just shy of a 20 lb loss since I started in mid-August.

I lifted last night, though I cut it short since I started too late in the evening. I've been trying... negative loads? I forgot what it's called, but I basically do the "release" part of the lifting in slow motion - the lift is fast, but the release is slow. For example, I'll do pushups where I let myself down over a 5 second span. In two weeks, I see the difference, but I'm sure weak for the rest of the evening.

That is a great article LaMa!
I understand re the testing LJ. I'm sorry I didn't twig that it was the cost. :blush5: People complain about our health system here in Australia, but I think we are very fortunate. It's not perfect of course(waiting for G's cancer op) but our local medical centre bulk bills & a GP visit costs us nothing. It sucks that health & education are not prioritised more in government funding. They should be basic human rights.
Well done on the over 2lb average loss!

Cate, like I said, if my numbers are still bad at the next blood test, I'll probably start monitoring.

LaMa, I started to clench the cheeks during my rowing. Can't say I feel the difference this morning, but it's kind of strange feeling during the rowing. I think my rowing was a little heavy to focus on it, but I will start working the glutes.

I made the mistake of mentioning to my wife that our neighbor needed help due to a dislocated shoulder yesterday. It was going to be a quick run over to pull her air conditioner out of the window. Unfortunately, when my wife hears someone's injured, or needs help, or whatever, she immediately assumes they need cookies. So I came home to the sound of the Kitchenaid whirring away and knew she was baking up some Little John Heroin. Luckily most went over to the neighbor's, but there was plenty left for me to binge on. Those damn cookies.... It couldn't be salad or sushi, could it...

Anyway, silly of me to blame her, I'm really not, I'm just venting.

Weekend plans are fairly loose - I have a free day tomorrow, that might involve hiking or it might involve a movie. Weather and mood-dependent, really. Might be able to fit both in. Sunday, again weather-dependent, might be a medallion hike with my daughter. I don't think we'll be able to do all 10 of them this year, but next year we'll have more time to plan it and think about it.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Cupcakes are my weakness, or anything pumpkin flavored. My husband and I do a lot of baking together but I'm able to eat one of two pieces of whatever we bake and then walk away until my parents and daughter finish off the rest. Except cupcakes or pumpkin. Then I can't resist, so we only make enough for 1-2 servings per person so I'm not tempted. I'm not that strong yet to say no.
