First stop: Spartan Turkey

Hi Melissa, don't forget it was a Friday night, folks have things going on! I, for one, usually check in on weekdays, since I'm using something with a full-sized keyboard.

So I thought my funk was gone, but it doesn't seem to want to go away. Saturday and Sunday were a battle against the depression while my wife was working and I had kid duty and the weather sucked. I didn't do too bad, diet-wise (didn't do great, but no binging on sweets or anything). I did get the kids to walk with me to lunch and CVS, but I have no drive to exercise. I really find it nearly impossible to want to row or lift, or even to go for a hike or mow my lawn. I don't know. Today's supposed to be nice, and I'm playing hooky, and does that mean I'll do anything active? No idea.

Hi LJ.

I think we all go through those funks in our lives. Sometimes life just gets to us. I know when I am in a funk I don't feel like doing nothing. I find though in order to get out of the funk- exercise is my best crowbar. I don't feel like it when I start but by the time I finish- I feel a little better. The more I do it the better I feel. I have exercised myself out of some pretty major funks. Just start with short bouts of exercise- even 5 or 10 minutes.

Funks have a tendency to stick around :( Push yourself to get outside & do something LJ. It's the only thing that works for me. Just go for a walk, whether you feel like it or not. Cowboy is right- even 5 or 10 minutes will have you feeling a little bit better xoxo

Ha. Kid duty.

Thanks for the support, folks. Resetting today, guess I need to accept that resets will happen, and that I shouldn't keep on plummeting downhill just cuz. I didn't really do that yesterday, I had some less-than-perfect foods, but I didn't binge or eat emotionally.

Anyway, looking forward to rowing today when I get home from work. I'm stepping away from frozen meals, I actually get a little ill thinking about them, so I grabbed a bunch of soups from the supermarket to have at work - a little more variety, a few less calories.

Autumn and soups go together wonderfully. At times when I was very pressed for time and still motivated to lose weight I'd often make "soup" from a stock cube, hot water, a some ham or an egg and whatever frozen veggies I had lying around.

Resetting is a good thing. We all need to do that sometimes. Soups are awesome- especially when it gets cooler outside. We have a Chicken Thai soup that my wife makes that is delicious. This time of year we make homemade Tomato soup too as we have lots of tomatoes in the garden. Delicious!

I reset on a regular basis LJ. Things change. I love soups all year 'round! I think I could live on soup.
We are definitely all on this wagon with you xo

Thanks for the cheerleading, folks. Funk seems gone, or at least back to sleep. I forced myself to row a couple nights ago, and felt much better the next day, felt more motivated, etc.

I decided I'll be changing my calorie tracking a little by no longer factoring the exercise calories, so I'm limiting myself to 2000 intake calories a day, no further math needed. I'm also changing my rowing routine - 3 days a week I'm doing 30 minutes in different increments (day 1 = 3x10m, day 2 = 2x15m, day 3 = 1x30m), then 1 day I'll do 15-20 minutes of HIIT.

Yesterday was a big victory - I took in 2000 cal, all while staying home and feeding snacks to my son all day, having eggs on toast for breakfast, and going out to lunch. I even had caloric room for dessert.

Weekly weigh-in, I'm down another 1.4 lbs, which has me at 15.2 lbs lost since my latest reboot (note that reboot is basically a bigger deal than a reset).

I did the same a few weeks ago. I stopped factoring in exercise and just made sure I stayed at a good intake rate. I pay close attention to how tired I feel and take it easy if I think I'm pushing my exercise too much for what I'm eating, but it's better than eating more and worrying if I've exercised enough to burn it off.

Why make more work for yourself, right?

Well done LJ! I gave up factoring in exercise a few years ago as I think we almost always underestimate our calories & overestimate our energy expended. Glad to see your funk has gone back into Funky Town, along with mine!

Oh, weekend, why are you so awesome yet so cruel? This time it's:
  1. Daughter bday tonight, which will include pizza, cake, adult beverages. And a glimmer of hope with salad
  2. UConn football game tomorrow. Luckily my cheapness will be stronger that the draw to hot dogs
  3. Probably leftover pizza tomorrow night. And probably salad. We have an abundance of lettuce
  4. Daughter's bday but with friends... that shouldn't be too bad, not a lot of snacking options
I'm taking today off of rowing cuz I don't have the time and my shoulders are feeling the increased output. Tomorrow will be a long, slow row, deviating from my plan, but I want to avoid injury. Hopefully Sunday will get back to power rows again.

Have a great weekend, ever'body!
