Of course, it was a compliment! If you are thinking of Europe, PLEASE come to London and rub shoulders with London girls so that you could pass some of your passion to city girls.:)

The French were very lucky to get out with a draw, however I dont know how it wasnt a penalty for the handball of Henry's strike.

Well, I didn't get to see the match, as I am still working so I cannot say either way, I listened to it on the radio but I'll go home and watch it later tonight...

Edit: How is the Brazil game? The announcers on the radio say so far it is 'leveled'?? I know it's early yet

As for England fans supporting their players to the last kick - did you not hear the booing Owen Hargreaves got when he entered the game? He arguably secured the three points because Paraguay had England on the ropes.

Chris, my mate, you know football inside out, no doubt. I am sure you know it very well that Owen Hargreaves's issue is complicated. So no more comments.

In the first opening match, England vs Paraguay, out of 43,000 spectators, 35,000 were England fans. How is that for support?

I do have say that English fans ARE the most loyal...a little bit nuts at times, but loyal LOL (just kidding Manlondon) :D

How are you guys seeing the Brazil game? FIFA Matchcast shows posession at 50%50%...

BBC says Brazil 59% Croatia 41%. Watching it live on BBC as I type this message. It is 1-0 in favour of Brazil. Kaka scored it 3 minutes back. Nicely kicked.
Croatia's defence has been not bad.

Englands support is fantastic - but they turn on their own - Crouch (at Old Trafford), Beckham (following WC1998 in a massive way), Hargreaves (understand why, but still doesn't deserve it, does he pick himself, no, the manager does...)

They take massive numbers everywhere they go and that shows their loyalty, but they are also fickle with the speed they turn on players.

Brazil game - well its been dull until KaKa put the ball in the top corner, I think Prso has had a great game driving Cafu back, which has caused Brazil problems with width.

Can't be any worse than Colombia, where they actually killed a player back in '98 was it? Or Mexico who literally stone their players when they play bad :eek:YIKES...

Edit after post: I think it was '94

As I type this Adriano nearly scores lol

Escobar's situation following 1994 World Cup was a bit different - it was gangsters, rather than supporters (as I think you've thought) that shot him - in fact the pressure that was on Colombia came from Pele - who declared them his tip for the tournament beforehand, of course they lost out in the group stages - with Escobar scoring the own goal (I believe against USA) that sent them out - then on a night out with his wife after their return, he was shot dead outside a restaurant - the attackers shouted goal everytime they shot him.

Horrid.

Iraq's team were threatened with death (allegedly) by Saddam Hussein, although this maybe propaganda rather than anything else

But thats a whole other thread!!

Comfortable really, same as Portugal, could go through the gears more if need be.

Did what they needed - Ronaldo disappointed, very overweight.

Apparently event the Brazilian president had concerns with 'fat' Ronaldo as they called him. Why would you not get yourself in shape prior to the tournament? It just doesn't make sense not to be your best...

Actually I thought Ronaldo looked better than a month ago... I don't really think he's overweight. Certainly you could have thought it watching his "game". Brazil played poor, not in world champion style. They played for the sake of winning that game 1-0 and not for the sake of football like they used to do. Disappointing!

Well... France and Switzerland preferred the boring version of drawing.. what should I say.

Korea - Togo was arguably the most entertaining match.

But- I predicted all the outcomes right!

The thing with Brazil is they dont tend to play more than 1 warmup friendly prior to the tournament - but use the group stage as competitive friendlies almost - if that makes sense lol

They'll grow and develop as the tournament goes on.

Today:

Spain 2-1 Ukraine - The Spanish finally show their strength at the World Cup?
Tunisia 2-0 Saudi Arabia - Neither will get out of this group, and will show why in a poor game.
Germany 1-1 Poland - A typical derby game full of ferocity and also leaving the door open for Ecuador to qualify tommorow.

Well, I just now was able to catch up on all the games today, I had not seen them. Brazil didn't do their typical stuff but I agree that they're just gearing up, no need to show all their strength just yet. Spain completely dominated over Ukraine, they also look very promising.

Germany continued to look strong and got a bit of a break with Poland losing a man 15 minutes from time. Their goal came in at the last minute, litereally LOL. Tough for the Polish team now because it's shaping up to be Germany/Ecuador coming out of their group. Tunisia and the Saudi's started out a bit slow but ended up on a better note with some pretty good goals.

My predictions for tomorrow:

Ecuador 2/Costa Rica 1

England 3/T&T 0

Sweeden 2 Praguay 2...

I agree, harsh on the Poles but nothing less than Germany deserved - if Klose had been on form against the country of his birth it could have been 4 or 5.

Saudi-Tunisia was a good game but both sides showed that they are poor, and the draw really only benefits Ukraine - who would leap to 2nd with a win next time (provided Spain dont lose of course)

I think that todays games will go as follows:

Ecuador 4-1 Costa Rica - Ecuador really impressed me in the first game and imo are the suprise package of the tournament so far. They need only a win to secure the second round match so all eyes on them.

England 2-0 Trinidad - Surely England are too good for the Carribean islanders? Most of the squad actually play in the lower leagues of England and Scotland - but lets see how the 6'7 Peter Crouch deals with the 6'6 1/2 Dennis Lawrence, should be a battle!

Sweden 2-1 Paraguay - I think Sweden will show a bit of class for the first time in 2006, following their dressingroom fight last time, the passion is now there and they will go for it now.

Nice games yesterday. Spain was impressive but I still wouldn't bet money on them... they're just so unlucky at some point, always! Or stupid.
The hosts managed to scrape out a win that they deserved after all.. usually the football god is not that forgiving when a team ****s up so many chances.
Saudi Arabia - Tunesia was a good game, but we all know that it probably won't affect the competitions further development that much.

Today's games I think:

Ecuador 2 - 0 Costa Rica
England 2 - 0 Trinidad
Sweden 2 - 0 Paraguay

Pretty monotone eh?

Oh, and if anyone refuses to check the news: Nothing wrong with Ronaldo, he's back in training.

Well another win by England, albeit, a little disappointing. Saved by the bell, the English team's defense was broken by T&T on a few occasions, the best when Terry literally saved the goal himself. T&T continutes to impress me, even though they are still looking for their first ever WC goal!

And Ecuador, what can we say? The coach had been quoted before the tournament as saying (when asked about his expectations):

"To win our first game against Poland, try to win our second agains Costa Rica, and just 'have fun' playing our third against Germany"...

and pretty much that's what they've done so far LOL.

Sweeden and Paraguay was an evenly played match imo, tough for the South Americans who were looking to at least get a point last night it must have been tragic...this pretty much sealed their fate.

Ok, since Argentina already played this morning (WOW)

Netherlans 2/CIV 1
Mexico 2/Angola 0

England are stuttering - Argentina look unbeatable. Today - that performance deserves nothing except the word "WOW"...

Unbelivable, espeically the 2nd goal -but even more terrifying they can bring Messi and Tevez into the game if things aren't going their way.

Ouch!

Holland have dumped Cote D'Ivoire out and qualified themselves - Holland vs Argentina will be a brilliant game, I hope it lives up to its billing.
