Faith's Diary

Thank you BB :hug2:

Sunday 9th September
Calories: 1076 (aim under 2000) :)
Fruit: apple, 4 tangerines (aim 3 different pieces) :)
Junk food: none (aim special occasions only) :)
Exercise: ran 5 miles in 47:05 minutes (aim at least 30 mins) :)

I ran a personal best today! :jump: Am extremely happy.

Also, I was down 2 lb from yesterday morning, which shows just how much the scales can fluctuate. Hopefully will be back to 139 before long, and then further down from there.

Nice job on the run yesterday! See, down 2lbs already. It was probably just water weight.:beerchug:

Great job working back down. Don't sweat it that you had a few bad days. Each new day is a chance to get back to your new regular habits rather than your olds ones. At least that is what I tell myself when I feel like I screwed up *L*
Hope you had a great weekend and keep on keepin on!

Hey, just thought I'd stop in.

It seems like you have trouble staying consistent with your diet. Maybe a cyclical diet would be best for you where some days are low cal days while others are higher? On average, I'd be shooting for 1400ish calories per day. But that's not to say that some days can't be 1200 and others can't be 1600-1800.

It's all about finding what works for you. What you can stick with on a consistent basis.

HI Faith!! I think the advise that Steve gave previously is SOLID and you should give it a try!! Remember we women hold a lot of water retention, so don't get discouraged if you see a increase of a few pounds every now and again, it's NORMAL! :D Your doing fine, just try the diet Steve suggested and see if you get any results. I think your body is accustom to what you currently take in and it's not letting you burn as many when your exercising. Change it up a small bit and see if you can't get it moving. Keep on focus, and don't give in, I have been a plateau for weeks now AGAIN! and I work out seriously hard 4 days a week. It will happen it's just going to be slow. Your doing great, keep it up!:D

That's great advice, Steve, and thanks. You've hit the nail on the head - I'm totally inconsistent and I seem to have great difficulty having more than a few "good" days in a row. My calories over the past few weeks have ranged from 1000 to 3000, with an average of 2300. Your suggestion sounds great, allowing me to have some variety and preventing me from getting depressed about the restrictiveness.

Monday 10th September
Calories: 1405 (aim under 2000) :)
Fruit: 2 apples, banana (aim 3 different pieces) :)
Junk food: none (aim special occasions only) :)
Exercise: 1 hour of walking, 40 minutes of cardio in the gym (aim at least 30 mins) :)

Tomorrow I'll try to have a 1600-calorie day to follow Steve's advice.

I'm also supposed to be carb-loading for my half-marathon on Sunday. How should I do this without sabotaging my diet? Should I even bother? I'm trying to decide which is more important to me: losing weight or achieving a good race time.

I think Steve's advice is great. But on the days that you do a big run, I would eat closer to 2000--just b/c you're burning so many, you're body needs them. Remember how hungry you got when you were doing all that running?

Can you carb load without eating high fat? I would ask Steve about this one. I have no experience with this subject matter.:) Now if you were trying to decide between silk scarves or handcuffs, I could help...:D

Well... silk scarves or handcuffs? :D

Tuesday 11th September
Calories: 1594 (aim under 2000) :)
Fruit: banana, pear, 7 apples (aim 3 different pieces) :(
Junk food: none (aim special occasions only) :)
Exercise: 5K in 30 mins on the treadmill, plus warm-up (aim at least 30 mins)

The first apple was planned... the other six weren't. They were so beautiful, all big, crisp, juicy, sweet... aaaaaggghhh!!!! And I just sat there watching The OC and Desperate Housewives and eating one apple after another until they were all gone. Well, at least I'll have none left until Friday now, and will HAVE to eat some other fruit.

LOL@ you and your apples..haha. I wish I could send ya some Michigan apples, b/c they are awesome, and just coming into season. The apple blossom is our state tree.

Well... silk scarves or handcuffs? :D

Depends on who's being restrained. Personally, I think I'd rather have silk scarves on my own wrists, but I could be talked into handcuffs..lol.

Now if the guy is being restrained, I'd say handcuffs if you think he's strong enough to break out of the scarves...you don't want the rascal to get away!! lmao.:D

That reminds me of Phoebe from Friends

Chandler: I think these are yours. [shows her a pair of handcuffs]
Phoebe: These are not mine! Look how flimsy they are! Come on, you try to hang a guy from a water pipe with these, and they'll snap like a piece of licorice.
Chandler: You don't really handcuff guys to water pipes, do ya?
Phoebe: Where do you think Mike really is?

Girlfriend you ate 7 apples??? WOW  I could have made a whole home made apple pie with those puppies. LOL LOL Plus, had I eaten that many apples in a day I would be in the bathroom all NEXT day, really that's what apples do to me. Your so cute!:jump: I just got done eating a nectarine, mmmm now I could eat 3 more of those, but again I would spend to much time in the restroom and not working. I think your doing great!! Keep it up!
Ki,

Ki,

You see, there, that's discipline! You said "nectarine" and "yummy" and "could eat 3 more" in the same sentence, yet you manage to stop yourself eating more  I admire and adore anyone with self-discipline :beating:

(And yes, I have spent a lot of time in the bathroom this evening... but... totally worth it. There's nothing in the world that feels better than an apple-binge.)

I don't know what's wrong with an apple binge. Please tell me.

Believe me, if I could live on apples, I would. Actually no, that's an exaggeration... I'd probably substitute one meal a day for apples, but you get the picture. Why fruit-binges are bad:

1. I get really bloated and gassy (though happy) and that's quite an... unsociable... state to be in  Plus my stomach sticks out like I'm pregnant and none of my clothes fit anymore.

2. It could be quite expensive. Apples aren't so bad but fruits are generally expensive.

3. It really spoils my appetite for dinner, so I miss out on a lot of other nutrients.

4. The explosion of sugar probably isn't great for my insulin levels and such. My mother once told me a friend of hers got diabetes just from eating too much watermelon. I don't know if that's true, but I don't want it to happen.

5. It's tough on the jaws. Seriously. Sometimes I chew so hard that the roof of my mouth gets raw.

6. Frankly, it's a weird habit.

LMAO! You are too funny. But I understand what you're saying. BTW, I didn't realize they celebrated Halloween in the UK. I've never been there during October, but still, I am pretty sure that I was told by Brits that it was an American thing.
