Exercise Routine Request

Does anyone have a good routine they have planned out for someone that has not worked out, but is going on a trip and will need to carry approximately an 80 pound backpack? This is a male, 22 years old, and he has until January to get "in shape" for his trip?

I have some ideas, but was hoping someone might have a plan they have used and succeeded with.

Well, you will probably need to work out the leg muscles, what do you have to work with? Do squats, and if you have access to a leg press, use it.
 
I think squats might be best. That 80 lb packpack is going to work his back/shoulders like crazy. He'd benifit from power cleans, dead lifts, shrugs, and squats. Oh yes, his core. The core is where all the power comes from so work it accordingly. If you want an example of this it would be for instance...his posture. To maintain a good posture while lugging that beast around he'll want a strong core.
