equal shoulders

Ok, so my friend is really freaky about his shoulders. don't know why but i can understand why some people are self conscience about certain things. He asked me today how to even out his shoulder muscles, and i didn't really have a valid answer for him. Me, personally, am only 16 so i can't really give a detailed answer like some of yall can on here, but i did ask if he was performing all his lifting movements correctly and he answered yes. One thing he was doing was using a single dumbell while performing military press, and i told him he shouldn't do that(cause i'm guessing it goes against the pushing/pulling thing.) How can he even them out? Is this just a case of genetics? or is this a case of impropper lifting over the past couple months(which is my guess). He is kind of new to lifting, so i didn't suggest doing any isolations. Is there any good compounds for this problem?. If i'm correct, i think military press is, but definetly not with a single dumbell on one side.
Thanks for the responses.

Explain how are they uneven? Watch his benching form, and make sure he's keep thing bar level and not jerking and wiggling one way or another as he's doing it. My shoulders are uneven but one of the reasons is that I've dislocated my right one multiple times and need surgery on it. Also tell him to do some trap workouts, because those hit the shoulders quite a bit. Military press is good to, I'd suggest with a barbell and real light weight at first to get good form. The problem with single are military press is that he may be going too far up or down and can't compare, and the other problem is that if he leans the opposite direction of the way he's lifting then he's hitting more of the tricep rather than just the shoulder.

If he's not a freaking wall of muscle, then there's no reason to even himself out. The fact that he's asking you, his 16 year old peer (young people aren't huge), suggests that he is not that big to begin with. Tell him that he won't be able to tell once he gets big.

That means no equalizing exercises. At all.

Any barbell OH press, rows, and rear delt flies will make his shoulders big.
