Emma's wedding weight loss diary

Hi all,

I am getting married in June 2016 and would love to lose some weight for the big day. My aim is to lose 10 pounds over the next 6 months so that I can look and feel the best and most healthy version of myself. I also don't want to be cringing when I back at my wedding photos in the future! The six bridesmaids that I am having are ( lucky them):coolgleamA: very slim so I don't want to look like a whale in comparison.

I've not had much luck with diets in the past. With previous diets I have lost a few pounds but quickly put all the weight back on again. I'm hoping that writing this diary will keep me focused to achieve my goals.

My meals are usually quite healthy and I do a moderate amount of exercise (running and gym classes) my main problem area is grazing between meals- especially after work when I fill up on high sugar, high carb snacks to de-stress at the end if the day. Not very good, especially when I work as a dentist! When I was a child I was a very healthy weight and had a positive relationship with food but started emotional eating in my teenage years due to family problems. I am hoping that I've put that behind me now and can again enjoy food but not overindulge.

Wish me luck
Emma xx

Hi Emma, congratulations on being engaged & welcome to the forum. It sounds like you can make very positive changes instantly by cutting out the "de-stressing" with high-sugar content snacks at the end of the day. If you could replace that with a small platter of fresh fruit & maybe go for a walk or do a light work-out I think your problem would most probably be gone.
Most of us in here have had body image issues of some sort & have tried eating away any problems. It does not work. It never works. I saw a counsellor many years ago, after losing 36kg, getting to my "ideal" weight & still feeling the same. I'm so glad I did. I have learned strategies to cope with issues as they arise. Mainly eating really healthy & getting outside in the fresh air regularly are my strategies, plus having quiet, down time to re-charge my batteries. My strategies may not suit everyone else.
I will wish you luck Emma, but luck doesn't come into it. Humans can be very strong-willed & if you make a conscious decision to eat healthy & to get fit then you are capable of doing it. We will be here to support you. It's a great community & you are very welcome. Cheers, Cate

Thank you all for your great advice and support.

I had a really good first day today.
For breakfast I had 2 pieces of wholemeal toast with peanut butter
For lunch I had sweet potato and carrot soup with a bread roll
For dinner I had a salad with prawns
I have drunk lots of water and 2x cups of tea
I walked to work and went for a half an hour jog this evening.
I am now treating myself with a mug of hot chocolate before bed ;)

Since taking steps to eat more healthily I have decided to try to cook more. My mum was not a very accomplished cook so I have never got into cooking myself and if I'm honest consider it a bit of a chore. If I make more things from scratch I will have more control and involvement in what I'm eating! So I'm going to endeavour to try at least one new, nutritious recipe a week.
Xx

Hi and welcome to the forum! Good luck with your goals. My best friend is also getting married in June 2016, I am the maid of honour. Im hoping to get under the 200 lb mark for the wedding. I know it is a lofty goal, but I do have some extra motivation at the moment! But most of all I want to lose weight in a sensible way and keep it off. I've lost about 100 pounds before and maintained my goal weight for a year, and then gained most of it back. It sucks! So don't do that, slow in steady is much better. So good for you for giving yourself a nice reasonable time frame.

Evening all! Slickzchik losing 100 pounds is amazing! I'm sure you will be able to lose it again and keep it off :)

Today I had a personal training session for 45 mins, it was a weight based session so lots of squats and lunges. I did eat a bag of cheesy Doritos though so bad times :(
